All I read is “remove insane difficulty” and I can’t help but laugh. I think you want easy content with instant gratification. No. The tiers of content cater to young and old, new and veteran player alike. New players can raid the same content the veterans do. It’s a good system and you can’t see why. -New players aren’t left out, casuals get to do content and those that seek challenges get those in spades. This is good for all involved, despite what you may see, it’s certainly not the big picture. So, let Blizzard focus on making games and you focus on washing dishes.

If Blizzard was smart they’d play into the conceit of re-releasing old blocks of content in sequential fashion before finally hitting, say, WOD or MOP and adopting a hardcore-first mentality towards developing a new take on the content.

Classic was only ever going to be rereleases. It’s cheaper to rerelease than it is do develop, and a lot of past expacs were quite popular, some after they were finished.

The problem is, again, success in other genres is quicker, and bigger.

If companies no longer want to make rts titles, it is a dead genre. The list of companies willing to take the rts risk was already small, and will likely keep shrinking.

So you prefer to have Tier set bonuses that offer no choice whatsoever and those Tier sets focus on one spec of each class?

The difference was the tier set wasn’t mandatory to enjoy class gameplay. Borrowed power “completes” the class gameplay now. Also, instead of a bit of ability bloat for a few years, then a bit of pruning, we get new abilities at the start of an expac, then get them pruned at the end. Not any better imo.

The first quest in Hellfire rewarded a green that had the same spell damage as the Rank 14 weapon. So when you try to explain things like you know them, it’s best you actually know them.

But people always have the idea that classic was peak of the game.

Peak of the game was WotLK, the subs proved that considering how many people loved the content. It’s been downhill ever since. Almost peaked again during Legion but then BfA ruined that climb back to greatness for this game. Shadowlands is going to drag it down further, oh wait, the level squish already did that. What more could possibly go wrong? Considering blizzard-activision’s track record since Cata, i’d imagine that question would be a dare to them.

There were other factors that went into Wrath’s success but the real issue was that Blizzard dropped the ball on consistency and quality. People were stuck raiding ICC for nearly a year before Cataclysm dropped and it was so far off the mark that it wasn’t even funny.

yeah i think the bliz team is clapping themselves on the back a lot in an echo chamber filled with lots of rationalizations

it doesn’t help that the activision CEO is supposedly breathing down their backs forcing them to optimize for profitability without losing too many players

basically means they’ve turned to raw metrics which generally just tell them how much boredom players will endure for a given reward and we’re their ant farm as they continue to test more and more systems for free grind time at minimal dev cost
