This addon still hasn’t been broken? Seriously? WTH blizz?
If they could figure out a way to automatically swap targets to the player trying to stealth, while spamming said skill. Probably? Haven’t tried it myself. Automation of skills and stuff wouldn’t be allowed, targeting though… Don’t think that’s bannable.
Didn’t even know this was a thing…
Sure thing, bud.
it was! Back in original vanilla if I saw a rogue coming I could send my felhunter after it - and if the rogue vanished - due to the felhunter being able to see stealth - would still attack the target and bring them back out of hiding.
I think the same thing was true of hunters. A hunter sends his pet on you and, even if you vanish, pet continues chasing you. However I think this is a bug or not an accurate feature in the game right now.
I remember clearly if you simply STEALTHED while a pet was onto you, the pet would keep pursuing you and attack through stealth, but vanishing removed the pet from the attack table.
This detects rogues stealthing off your mini map and notifies you, it really does not give anything away other than hey a rogue stealthed somewhere! When it detects a stealthed rogue near you well you would have heard the stealth noise pass by you anyway if you use sound.
if you were a smart Rogue you would move around in stealth then no one would get notified of anything, but you obviously have spy too and only go into stealth when you see people pop up on your spy, therefore letting them see you on their spy so kind of defeating the purpose of your whole argument.
needs to be broken.
because it breaks a class… actually 2 classes.
But it also allows you to click the name and instantly /target them.
Stealth has a second or two delay from the time you cast it to the time it conceals you.
Meaning there is a 1-2 second window after the spy detects the rogue for an enemy to quickly target the rogue entering stealth and spam a DoT ability.
No the instant someone stealths they become opaque on spy and cannot be targeted, only people visible in a certain range(which is less than the notification range but longer than the visual range as enemies do take a second or two to render running in on epic mounts) can be targeted from spy. But like I said you shouldn’t be stealting in range of peoples spy addon, you should always be in stealth as a horde rogue world pvping, the only reason you wouldnt be in stealth is to mount up and jump people using your spy addon, letting them see you with their spy addon, which once again nullifies the whole argument.
Do you know how long the range of the addon is? It is ridiculously long. 200+ yards away. To put it in perspective, most ranged attacks sand abilities is 30 yards at maximum range. Why should the rogue stealth ability be 7+ times the required range of other class abilities? How is that fair?
so you are scared of people aoeing you from 200 yards away?
As long as your Combat Log is set to: so 40-200 yards.
No. Combat Log is capped at 200 yards.
Why are you so bad that the time it takes to get to someone from 50-100 yards while in Stealth doesn’t allow you to wait and prime the correct attack? Are you really finding that Hunters just stop what they’re doing for that long and sit on a flare/trap for minutes on end?
/giggle
The whole point is to be sneaky and subtle. How can I be sneaky and subtle with a range like that?
As has been explained earlier, stealthing far away is not practical. People mount away. People even walk away. Stealth significantly lowers your movement speed. So stealthing from 200 yards against a moving target is impossible, and even against a target standing still, will take around 30 or more seconds to reach your target.
And how about the situation where you can’t do that? Say you’re in a confined building. Think of the tunnels leading to the Uldaman instance. Or in a yeti cave. Or in zones with multiple floors. There is no safe space to stealth in there without being caught.
And how about the situation where your friend is being ganked and you have to get there quickly? Back in the good old days, you could skillfully mount up and get close, enter stealth close to your enemy but behind a tree or a building wall, and be there very quickly in stealth without being detected.
Nowadays, you’d be discovered doing that. You have to either forego stealth opening (severely weakening the class) or lose the element of surprise (again severely weakening the class).
You are aware that you can hear when a player goes stealth near you regardless of the addon just like you can hear when they get close to you.
You heard of humanoid tracking? you need to be stealthed to get past that.
The addon shares data with other users.
It is much more than 200 yards.
As for your second point, you say 50-100 yards but we just established the range is 200+ yards. So it’s more like “why are you so bad that you have to stealth from 200+ yards away?” And it should be phrased as: why are you so bad that you need this addon to detect a rogue?
Lastly, it is not necessarily even about having the opener. It is simply immersion breaking. What if I just enjoy stealthing through cities undetected? What if that’s my kick? it is immersion breaking when I stealth in a corner room or behind a tree or in a bush with nobody around, but everybody in a very large radius instantly knows my presence with a large buzzer sounding on their screen.
discord also shares data with other users, nothing in the terms of service saying we arent allowed to communicate i think.
Near you.
Is 200+ yards “near you?”
The radius of the sound is around 20 yards or so. The addon increases this range by 10x+
The LFG addon that Icy Veins was developing is in a similar vein to Spy. Both addons simply take a fine toothed comb through massive dumps of text to pick out important bits – the former from global chat channels to enumerate groups and grasp their status, the latter to detect the presence of nearby players of the opposing faction. The LFG addon took the additional step of automatically posting in global chat channels on behalf of group leaders advertising and candidate members asking for invites, but that’s largely immaterial to this discussion as it did so using human readable text.
I was not passionately against the LFG addon when that controversy was going on. I casually argued in favor of it but understood the other side’s arguments. If Blizzard broke LFG because it was not in the spirit of Vanilla despite having done nothing more than automate a laborious clerical task, it seems to me that the same logic should apply to Spy. If they want to be consistent, they should break Spy as well.
thats the range of your combat log you can adjust its settings spy just reads the combat log it does not increase your “range”.
