No, spy lists exactly who is near you (btw the combat log does not tell you if people are near you if they dont do anything, unlike spy) and where they spotted him.
The log would tell you if another dude fights smth or stealths, but again youd have to constantly check it, which is unrealistic and it still does not have an audible sound either when an enemy is near you. It also does not tell you what class said enemy is.
To compare it with a combat log check up is a weak argument.
Spy does not give the rogues coordinates
It gives YOUR coordinates, and if your buddies spy tells you it saw a rogue, it gives you your BUDDYâs coordinates.
Rogue could be anywhere within 200 yards of the ping, if he has not walked off someplace.
He could be standing right on top of your buddy ganking him, but that is not a guarantee
Come one guys, making things up does not help your case, if anything it makes it ignored.
Itâs an addon, you can actually look at it and see exactly how it works
(i mean go read its files, not look at it in game)

Anyone claiming if spy wouldnt exist theyd just check the combat log, while at the same time keep track of exactly who is near you and who just stealthed at any given moment has no right to call others out on âmaking things upâ.
ITs just not feasable to do what the addon provides yourself with the tools that the base game provides. By the time you have all said information that spy usually delivers in a heartbeat, you have already been attacked and probably killed.
Just keep claiming your bs excuse of âid check the combat logâ⌠might as well claim you are a hunter setting trap/flare each and every single mob pull on yourself or a mage claiming hed spam rank 1 nova all day out of habit.
Its just bs. You get complacent, cause thats what people do and when you do you get attacked. An addon whining like a hungry cat everytime someone is near you changes that dynamic. But keep telling yourself its absolutely fine and normal.
It doesnât /tar, it just lists the names and you can click on them to target, so its not automation.
It is overpowered and basically a requirement at this point, those with it have advantages over those that donât
If i really wanted the functionality (I dont use spy, it would annoy me if nothing else) and no such addon existed, id just parse the combat log
set a trigger and link it to a sound event.
Then there would be some annoying sound going off every time someone stealthed and a message telling me their name
And then iâd get annoyed with it and shut it off
Even without this addon Pet classes would still cheese the system since minions will aggro the first hostile within range even more so for warlocks cos felhounds auto cast a stealth detection power which gives them a heads up

Damage Meters like Recount and PvE addons like Deadly Boss Mods do the same thing as Spy but for different reasons.
This thread doesnât exist to attack those other addons because it doesnât affect them negatively.
Countless threads about removing DPS meters were massed over the years for blizzard for the same reasons. Even further, D3 damage meters were banned by Blizzard to deny these addons for the same reasons.
If Onyxia and Ragnaros were here on these forums, youâd clearly have them chatting on the forums about DBM.

Itâs so funny to me how people love to make wild claims about things they clearly arenât well versed in.
Iâm a big time PvPer and player of many online games and have been accused of cheating several times over the year all by players who simply need to git gud.
Last night in my PvE guild people dieing were blaming spy for everything, never acknowledging that maybe they just arenât that great at PvP. Theyâll get caught in stealth and blame spy instantly, despite me watching them literally go stealth within a few yards of a mage, you donât need an addon to tell you to AoE when you see a rogue stealth within that distance.
Now itâs just a meme for people who actually understand how spy and pvp work. Warlock just gained a bunch of health, must be using the heal function from that hack mod Spy! Definitely didnât just pop a health stone, absolutely not.
Never said they donât, nor did I advocate for other addons that do.
There are a range of addons that donât however. Things like atlas loot etc.

What part of it is automated?
It does not target anything on its own, it creates a list of players that it picks up in the combat log.
Spy to me seems like more of a work smarter not harder tool. This really is the case of most add ons from my experience. It uses data already presented to us within the game client and presents it in a pretty way.

I love watching rogues have meltdowns now that theyâve lost ONE of their multiple advantages. Please take more from rogues, this is like a holiday by itself, without the turkey or trees covered in garland.
Its improbable to do what DBM provides you with on your own but it can be done. Addons exist to assist with features of the game that would be hard for a player to manage on their own such as keeping track of boss cooldowns or reading the combat log. Rogues cry about Spy but then have no issue with DBM. It goes both ways. If Spy ends up gone so too should DBM, dmg meters etc

It is an advantage. But itâs a legit advantage, I can accomplish the same thing by manually reading the combat log, however itâs easier to have an addon point out text. Donât be mad because youâre bad, and canât get by without all your advantages. lmao
