Obviously. Ugly dude vs fp material.
Sylvanas is the undead waifu they can sell the most of. Garrosh was some ogre-looking thing no one cared about.
There is an entire story arc in Ardenweald where we get to help resolve those who perished in the fire. Many Night Elves were obliterated in the maw, alongside many other races. Innocent races. But that doesn’t mean that the arc in Ardenweald doesn’t exist.
Edit: Doesn’t this link insinuate that we save those souls?

lol! My son-in-law hated the LOTR books…he said, ‘all they do is walk and walk and walk’.
I got him ‘Bored of the Rings’ for a present.
an alliance city that was used by the soldiers to launch attacks at Lordaeron under the guise of a civilian town to avoid retaliation
she was ordered to attack Gilneas by Garrosh, who was the Warchief at the time, if anyone is to blame it is him.
not her fault the Lich King didn’t have a backup plan in case his helmet broke, he sat on the throne longer than Arthas did but couldn’t even hold back a few zombies.
that was Professor Putrecide who abandoned the Forsaken/Sylvanas in favor of siding with Arthas during a coup orchestrated by Varimathras
she didn’t plot their deaths, she was helping Varian and fought alongside Vol’jin, Vol’jin just turned his back to a demon and got gutted, and Varian decided to ignore that their allies sounded the retreat
he challenged her to a fight to the death, he did not expect to survive the fight
he betrayed the Warchief of the Horde and committed treason by handing over her weapon to the Alliance.
she used the Blight as a weapon to defeat her enemies who were sieging her city after she evacuated all civilians, unlike Malfurion who didn’t bother evacuating anyone until after the tree was on fire.
cough Cyberpunk 2077 cough
And yet,I wonder if Sylvanas even has a heart for Nathanos? Or even care for anything but her selfish needs
“We know that particularly when navigating storylines involving beloved or hated characters, almost anything that we do, no matter which direction we take - Where does Sylvanas go? Which one of these many many paths awaits her? - we’re going to piss a good chunk of people off. And we’re going to make others gratified and we’re going to confirm that they were right all along. We need to be mindful of what is out there so that we can be sensitive to that range of concerns, so that even though we’re going to disappoint people with an specific outcome, we’re trying to let them down gently when possible.”
While he doesn’t say it I am having a hard time not seeing it in this quote.
My roommate is a huge fan and I get their significance to the fantasy genre as a whole, but it’s as thrilling as reading User Agreements.
More like Arborcide. Those tree jokes make me laugh every time.
Agreed. That quote, and Sylvanas in the cinematic saying she is going to “Set us all free” is 100% them setting her up for redemption. Whether it actually happens is up for debate, she may be on the brink of doing something and the Jailer just turns her to dust for all we know.
But the vibe I get is she is being redeemed. I can’t wait to quit WoW when it happens.
When I first saw this quote it seemed to me that it could go either way. Maybe the group I’m in who wants Sylvanas’ to have a happy story, are the ones he’s referring to when he says, ‘we’re going to piss a good chunk of people off’?
The problem is…where is the satisfying ending if she gets redemption?
Say she ends up being good all along or some storyline where her soul was split in two like Uther’s in the Bastion animated short and she helps us defeat the Jailer or something
That doesn’t resolve the issue of her starting and stroking a massive war to killing hundreds of thousands of innocents to fuel her own personal death-power, committing genocide at Teldrassil, using chemical warfare on her own city, and kidnapping multiple Faction leaders as well as having killed Saurfang
Where is the satisfaction in the person who does all of that having a happy ending lol
I’d genuinely like someone to tell me one bc I can’t think of a single instance
My most fair outcome would be Sylvanas ends up being forced to take the Jailer’s place after we kill him in a raid and she’s trapped in the SL forever
I don’t think “a happy ending” is anywhere in the cards for her. It was more along the line of if she was doing this for a greater good type ending.
She also was told not to use the plague.
She also used magic which isn’t allowed. And she killed sarufang which wasn’t allowed in the horde since thrall made the rule.
After starting a war.
Further examples of her one dimensional evil are:
Torturing her own commanders
sanctioning the experimentation on civilians and POWS.
Using her own people as tools for her survival.
Contemplating the murder of her sisters.
Enslaving Eyir and torturing the Val’kyr to obey her commands
Well that would make me happy at least.
Replace “Night Elf” with “Forsaken” and “Teldrassil” with “Undercity” and you’ll immediately realize, It’s fair as it’s happening to both factions, and last I checked, Forsaken are as popular as Night Elves with the playerbase.
Lastly, you can’t hold anything committed during war against sylvanas. This includes the sacking and destruction of a strategic enemy stronghold right in your own faction capital’s backyard, and the execution of traitors and awol dissidents.
If this happened in real life, everything sylvanas did would of been viewed as normal and within reason, especially during wartime:
attacking an enemy cities, execution of seditious traitors and double agents/spies, and punishment of dissidents as these things happen in real life too: just look at the United States’ history of waging war and getting involved in conflicts and the bombing, killing, and terrorizing of civilian populations, yet regardless of all of this, the United States is still viewed as “the good guys” on the world stage even though in reality the US is far from the good guys.
I’m genuinely curious about this. As someone who seems levelheaded I would like to hear your thoughts on why you feel that way?
Because for me, I am pretty much in the boat that once someone harms/kills children they are beyond redemption, no matter what, its why Darth Vader’s redemption was BS to me.
But in Sylvanas case she literally killed all those innocent people, including children, knowing they were going to super hell to suffer for eternity and have their souls obliterated to make weapons for the Jailer. How can anyone defend that and say she deserves redemption after that?
you’re wrong.
A very well thought out and detailed response.
that’s all your post deserved.
