I’ll still laugh at the fact out of all the religions in wow, it seems that Tauren are the closest ones to being correct.
I don’t think anything you said takes anything away from Elune. Elune is still super cool, the Night Elves are still my favorite race. And yes, she is still a goddess.
guess they shouldnt have been so ok with their queen trying to lure sargaras to azeroth for a booty call /s
Once we moved beyond “Thank you peasant for ridding my kingdom of the evil monster” The devs have been role playing for us.
It’s just so weird. With the new player experience you do the new little area, a sergeant or whoever teaches you the basics of your class, you do the first ten levels and then, BAM, you’re the hero dealing with the family intrigues of your faction leaders. Then back down to doing some local stuff for a while, save the world or some other stuff.
Then off to SL, and the devs completely take over your character and you’re just their puppet for what ever on rails narrative they feel like dragging you though.
Being an eternal one is still like a goddess. The problem is that it makes absolutely no sense.
She’s supposed to have created Xera (Or was said by Khadgar reading an ancient tome and her tear awakening her), Xera who saw the ordering of the cosmos.
She is light but can go full dark.
So let us get this straight:
She’s a Pantheon of life that created the Naaru (light), has light and shadow (Night Warrior) which goes with the duality of Naaru that can go Void.
Like, what is she? A mix of primordial powers put in a blender?
I feel Blizz was like “Oh my let us make her the sister of the Winter Queen!” while forgetting past lore. But Elune can be something greater despite being a Titan. She looked more like a First One, and feels like a very missed opportunity.
Part of me wanted her to remain a mystery because I knew or felt it had a HIGH chance of getting ruined. But I’ll wait and see.
Paranoia is a heckuvathing.
Sci-Fi is the inevitable destiny of WoW. We already have the space ships, many different alien species, laser guns… it’s only a matter of time before we all go shiny futuristic chrome.
What I’m saying is, you know all of those mediocre episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager? That’s what they’ll be feeding us from now on. In Warcraftified form.
And the explanation for everything that happens will just be rambling magiteknobabble.
Yea this a disservice to night elves. I would like to say that the quest line datamined in 9.1 does not directly call Elune her sister.
People are jumping the gun a bit. The quest line mentions the winter queen’s sister, and Elune’s tear is a quest object.
Just because the quest involves Elune’s tear, it does not automatically assume that Elune is her sister. Eonar could’ve given Elune’s tear to the winter queen.
So let’s just wait and see before sounding the alarms
She still shows a lot more agency and power than the windchimes that get referred to as divine beings and stood by doing nothing while the scourge burned everything. Even if 9.1 has the worst retcon possible I don’t think they can completely nullify things like what happened in Val’shara in game
Like afaict she’s stronger than the light is often shown, which is so fickle that quel’dorei priests were losing the ability to cast spells during the sacking of Quel’thalas because despair gave them a crisis of faith.
Blissard has made the NE the laughing stock of warcraft. Shame, really.
Well I always liked the mystery of the whole Elune thing. But had to know once Blizzard put the Elune idea into the story it would just become a Greek demigod/goddess with a power generator in a shack behind the two marble columns.
Yo, wait. I have an important question. …Why is Elsa the winter queen? Where’s her ice castle? Why does she hang out in a deciduous forest? Where’s her “I have cast a blizzard, draw them into it”? She is the single worst frost mage I have ever met.
Why would the naaru step in then? It’s not like the Burning Legion was behind things. In fact, the Lich King (presumably at the Jailer’s behest) was planning to betray the Legion the whole time, so technically, it’s to the Light’s benefit.
Naaru are divine, but nobody ever said they were nice.
They also didn’t do squat when the legion invaded on the coattails of the scourge, planned betrayal or not, so I’m not sure it changes much.
They still come off as massively weak sauce compared to Elune or even some of the other more powerful wild gods.
That’s technically a response to the post right above, I messed up formatting
In all honesty, when weren’t they?
They lived in a tree and were surprised that fire is super effective against wood.
Elune was a true deity. The only one in existence that we knew of. Her lore specifically tells us that. So nope, it’s not the same thing. Wild Gods aren’t gods. Titans aren’t gods. Elune was specifically said to be:
Elune is one of the few true deities of Azeroth
As described by actual lore.
The sister thing really makes it ridiculous. I cant think of a single real life mythology where gods had brothers or sisters. Not a single one.
The Norse? Duh.
Thats about as ridiculous as saying zeus married his sister.
Elune isnt from the mortal universe based on what the winterqueen said she is from the shadowlands. and like the voidlords they would be FAR more powerful in the mortal universe than they are in their own.
