Understandable. I just wanted to see what others would think. Personally, I think it seems possible. I just hope that if it is true, that they implement it in the story well. Night Elves have suffered enough lmao.
World of Warcraft: Drilling the Heavens! Unlock new powerful galactic abilities as you side with one of the new Supertitans! Customize your own giant mech with abilities and armor and fight against the Anti-Spira…we mean against the Dark Overlords!
Abilities include:
“Hypernova” - Use the power of an exploding galaxy to strike your enemies.
“Galactic Shuriken” - Throw a galaxy like a shuriken at your enemy.
Tengen Toppa Bolvar Fordragon: yours is the helm that will pierce the heavens!
That’s a race, not a fundamental construction of the cosmos. Bit different. It’s like Tolkien. Cosmologically, the universe is Catholic (because he was Aggressively Catholic), one level below that is British Isles Folklore, one level below that “the races” are a variety of IRL racial stereotypes he produced in his mythos lol
For a game so heavily based on Warhammer and Tolkien we are noticeably missing the gods tied to the color magic wheel and/or the Eru/Valar/Maiar.
Missing the point. It is just compounding an existing problem.
Also missing the point. It is about having the lore be relevant for horde players. Why would Horde players have any interest in content about Elune? Like at all. She is completely irrelevant to our faction.
Regardless, my reaction to creator gods, particularly ones that pick favorates, is a very solid ‘Meh’.
To made an’she or the earthmother only for faction equality would be really bad storytelling. If you ask me, if is elune indeed a first one, then i would like to have answers about their doing
Anshe is literally the sun though? Like he’s been a fixture in Tauren Lore since the onset, one that wasn’t really explored until Cata.
It’s not like they’re pulling Anshe out of nowhere.
He’s been worshipped by the Tauren and granting them magical powers to wield the Light and go into the Shadowlands for a while now. Meta-wise it’s been like, ten years lol
Hell, would be cool if Blood Elves started communing with a Belore soon, like some magical entity contacting them, making their sun worship more literal.
9.0 = Shadowlands
10.0 = Light vs Shadow expac
11.0 = Veiled Sea expansion maybe? Faction-conflict centric.
12.0 = First Ones
So they can easily develop Anshe during Shadowlands (to deal with Baine’s weird magical wound on his soul that’s still affecting him), maybe even Blood Elf development religiously too.
It makes sense that a Goddess of creation wouldn’t favor the faction with a long history of destroying everything the cross paths with.
And? My criticism is not that there is more than one First One, but that the motivation would lie purely in faction equality to inflate this inactive character to a big number.
I think if you introduce something like First Ones, it should be characters who can take up the appropriate position in the player’s community, An’She would forever turn out to be just “First One” because Faction Equality.
And Earth Mother is Azeroth. Besides, you’ve got literaly three tauren myths in here, three if you count Elune, four.
Again, I just picked names that exist in-game that parallel Tolkien Mythos and other IRL Mythologies rather than try to make stuff up except for two of them
An’she is Elune’s “opposite”. I don’t think including him as a First One is doing it for the sake of “Faction Balance” but because he’s the only reference to a Being That Is The Sun With A Name That Is Worshipped In The Game.
I’d rather them recycle names we already know but aren’t fully explored rather than pull stuff out of thin air.
I think An’She is a naaru, but that is only my guess. In the end, I do not know. I don’t know, if there is a naming scheme, within the First Ones, then Belore would probably be more appropriate if compared to Elune.
from a pure name-Perspective
Current lore I believe has it going…
Light and then came the void. They clashed and the first signs of life were made. This was called the great ordering?
Khadgar says that the prime naaru Xera was made during the great ordering. But he also said that Elune made the prime naaru.
We go Light ----> Great ordering.
So are they changing things again?
Before life began and before even the universe existed, there was only the Light. The Light existed as a boundless sea of living energy, swelling across all of existence, unfettered by time and space. Yet as the ever-shifting sea expanded, pockets of cold nothingness appeared, giving birth to a second, opposite force: the Void. The growing tension between the two opposing energies eventually ignited a series of cosmic explosions that gave birth to the physical universe, the Great Dark Beyond.
The cataclysmic birth of the cosmos sent shards of fractured Light flying through the cosmos, suffusing the newly formed planets of the universe with the spark of life and giving birth to countless life-forms, the most common of which were the primordial. Occasionally, these shards of Light would gather and form clouds of Light from which powerful beings would emerge, among which the benevolent naaru.
So are they saying Elune is a “cloud of Light”? Doesn’t that means she’s just… the Light?
Not sure how they’re going to make Elune a first one, unless they go back and have khadgar say “Oh yeah I read that book wrong, my bad.” Because we get Light made life which included the Naaru, and Elune is suspected of making the Naaru. So?
Hmmm Elune is probably the most or one of the most elusive and unknown entity in all of WoW universe and history…
The problem with this is is it really a moon or what we see is different of what it actually is?
Would these “First Ones” be some of the other Moons and Stars like Azeroth sun or are these First Ones bigger than that? (Tauren lore mention the Sun or An’she was torn out and sent spinning across the heavens, chased eternally by Azeroth’s most visible moon, known to the tauren as Mu’sha)
In ESO the story with these are that they are Holes in the sky…torn open by et’Ada (Godlike race) fleeing to Aetherius as the creation of Mundus was a trap and was zapping their diving life… or something like that. Then again ESO universe is like a Nexus where all time history are converging, sparating or changing with the “Dragon Breaks” and “Elder Scrolls” hence the games names…
That’s how they can explain everything in their convoluted universes and add anything their story wishes to add without messing up their own lore…
Pretty smart (IMO) for an endless gaming story going forward… making everything canon and not at the same time… yet truly not too popular with some players as you can imagine.
SOOOOO, I like to see a bit of more info of the nature of Elune and these “First Ones” how ever… they need to be cautious (IMO) how much of that is reveled and how much of that we will actually play…
Beyond Time Travel in Azeroth WoW universe, we don’t have “Elder Scrolls” or “Dargon Breaks” equivalent to change stuff in the universe on the fly… and last time I read Azeroth is not a World Nexus of Reality like in Hero of the Storm where time, reality and history is changing, existing at the same time. Not even sure if WoW, HotS, Overwatch and Starcraft are the same Universe to be completely honest.
I guess we will have to see… to your original question: yes I like to see more, I be please as long as its playable! (IMO)
PS
I love books but I rather play the content in-game as I only use books to add more to what I seen in-game not to be clueless only to have to buy a copy to learn what happened.
I don’t recall anything in lore or the suramar storyline suggesting that the Nightborne flat out reject Elune now that they’re free from the legion. The Nighthold is directly across from the old Temple of Elune and in the Nighthold, there is a small area with a Nightelf/Nightborne looking statue holding up a crescent staff with NPCs kneeling in what appears to be “worship”. Would be weird to keep all of their crescent religious architecture for a goddess they don’t believe in anymore.
It would not be a far-fetched idea to suggest that Elune would heed the prayers of Nightborne priests should they ask. She did once before, did she not?
I am so not a fan of knowing every last detail in this universe.
Also, I always wanted Elune to be a benevolent rogue Void Lord.
Yeah they’re almost definitely retconing that lmao
Welcome to Team Make An’she A First One
Oh great… so Elune is being turned into a Xel’naga.
And I’ll bet Tyrande goes through some form of transition or ritual to fully transition into becoming an ethereal being, as the Night Warrior Ritual is only a part of a ritual to ascending into becoming a being like Elune, or one of Elune’s angels/servants.
And Blizzard will point and say: “Hah! See! We’re totally not ripping off Starcraft 2. Look the bad guy didn’t get Kerrigan’d, it was the good guy who got Kerrigan’d all along.”
And the Lore lovers will just be like:

Calling it here. The Kerrigan plot twist won’t be for Sylvanas, but Tyrande as a result of the Night Warrior ritual and Elune being a Xel’naga.
It is kind of neccessary. Elune is a very Night Elf centric type of being, and despite what they may think, Night Elves are not the center of the universe.
Pretty much. It started when they said Chronicle was told from the Titan’s perspective. Even though the passage you quote immediately afterwards is something the Titans can’t possibly know. It predates them, and any other sentient race they’ve had contact with that could have told them, like the Naaru or Constellar.
Unless they met a First One, and just happened to conveniently leave it out of their Big Lore Book of the Universe.
Nah, Tyrande will learn that being Vengeful is bad and release the Night Warrior’s power to Ardenweald to heal the forest.
Nah they’re not gonna do Atheist-Lovecraft Cosmology for WoW, nor Pseudo Zoroastrian like they did with Diablo.
WoW is going to be Gnostic Cosmic Origin + Tolkien Eru-level Valar-esque group of Creator Beings
An’she. They can flesh out An’she. Or the Earth Mother. Or the Sky Father.
It doesn’t have to be just Elune elevated to the level of First One lmao it would make perfect sense for An’she be elevated to a First One in a lore development, the sun to elune’s moon
