(Spoilers) Baine's 🧠

Shhhhh

Seriously though
You’re still playing the game. If they paid attention to the fact that nearly everyone should be dead, the game would stop.

Assuming you don’t want this, be glad they don’t pay attention to the fact that troops don’t grow on trees.

I play the game cause of the technnical aspect. I’m not an RPer so for me is quite easy to disconnect from the lololstory if I want to.

You mean that time when Blizzard marginalized and sidelined Worgen during that pivotal story, forgetting about them entirely in favor of Jaina and High Elves, to the point they just handwaved away that a race is agreeing to peace despite having their people wiped out and their kingdom destroyed.

I guarantee you they didn’t think of the Gilneas situation at all when they decided to wrap up MoP’s story and end the faction war.

It’s just typical “what’s right for me isn’t right for thee” talk I see from Blood Elf Paladin posters all the time.

Once upon a time I would have totally believed blizzard could indeed pull it off. Sadly things like Starcraft 2 and the horrors that was TBC lore keeps that hope rather dim.

Blizzard really can be an amazing company when they try and for all my lore grip, they still do pull off some amazing gameplay here and there. This is an mmo, the greatest Co-op experience of all time with the power to push the story forward in real time due to constant development. Now that they have the power to Shard zones, there’s nothing stopping them from overhauling anywhere they please in the game beyond time and money. (Which of course I’m fully aware is a big deal and there’s always the “is the resources needed to do this worth the cost to keep players happy?”)

But like, Why are stormwind and Oggrimar the only two capitols that matter still? Burn Stormwind, update IronForge, make the alliance sweat and then raid to get it back. Blow up some Horde towns, destroy entire zones and then give them a new one with a new town. Maybe do some sorta garrison thing where the player’s job is to start a new settlement and then next expansion make that area official for everyone.

I dunno, the only thing holding back is time/money/effort. Big hurdles of course but that’s the nature of an mmo. You really CAN play with how the world grows and changes. So let it grow.

Honestly, and this isn’t going to be a groundbreaking opinion, I think Activision is the issue. They want us happy
enough. Not happy. Does that make sense?

I just started playing SC2. I wanted to see what all the hubub about the story being bad is. All I can spot is some cringey Jim Raynor dialogue so far, but i’m only 2 missions in.

Legion, however, tells me they can still tell a decent story. I hope they can get past their Corporate overlords, and save this.

Also, I won’t lie and say I’m not enjoying the story, but I tend to be a less harsh critic than most of my friends. I even liked The Last Jedi and Solo.

You can’t blame everything on Activision.

SC2 was great up until Kerrigan and the awful ending.
But Kerrigans storyboard was leaked like years before sc2 even came out.
So I doubt it was anything to do with Activision.

And before that, in BC, the story went totally down the drain. Metzin wasn’t perfect and plenty of people hated him for everything that happened in BC, but totally loved Wrath.

No, but I can try!

The WoW reddit summed up in two posts.

See I didn’t hate BC. I know a lot of people did, but I thought they did a lot of good things.

Maybe its just that I’m easily satisfied. I dunno. But even the faction war doesn’t really bother me. Its just a game, and i try not to let it affect me on a personal level.

Warcraft wasn’t a sterling example of storytelling even before Activision dug its claws into Blizzard.

True, its always been a bit campy, but if you don’t dig too hard, its at least enjoyable. Every story contradicts itself somewhere, so I don’t worry too much about that stuff. And I think I’m a happier person because I don’t hate things.

Starcraft two isn’t a bad game by any stretch! The problem is that it came after Starcraft one
Like Granfaloon said, it really only took a dive when Kerrigan showed up because no matter how you slice it, Starcraft one left such a heavy taste that the lighthearted and adventure feel of Starcraft two feels like a hammer to the face.

It’s mindboggling to think that Starcraft two could so easily fool around when all the events of the first game basically pointed to system wide annihilation literally on your doorstep as a cliffhanger!

But yeah I freaking loved SW Solo (less of a fan of Jedi but dang that ship special effect sends my sci-fi heart screaming in joy)

And actually I’ve really enjoyed playing BFA, it’s just the back of my brain nagging me because as a kid I was so darn invested in everything Warcraft 2-onwards. TBC just introduced too many issues too fast. Space ships, demons are actually aliens, your three anti-heroes are actually mustache villains, oh hey look every alliance hero is alive but the horde ones are footnotes at best. Weeps over the loss of Zul’jin!!!

I think everyone here takes the story way too seriously. I know I’m saying that in a place called “Story Forum” but I think this would be a very different place if everyone realized and accepted that the story has never truly been great or amazing and has always just been “there” to facilitate the whims of the gameplay.

I think its just a combination of this:

Lots of people take it personal, that’s for sure, I just find it annoying that they put some grand narrative over just having fun with it. No one really liked or wanted the faction war in CATA, but it was fun and light. BFA does not even have that going for it. BC was all about killing off fan fave heroes so no wonder people hated it.

If we’re just here to have a fun ol time, being lectured and treated like we should feel bad because they think negative emotions build a more dynamic story telling experience, is a real big loss for both of us. If they want this to be like game of thrones that’s fine, but it’s a huge loss for everyone who doesn’t like it and did like stories like legion.

I think it’s just because of how long wow and warcraft have been around honestly. I literally grew up playing warcraft 2 at summer camps. I played war 3 with my friends in highschool and I played wow through college until now.

It’s always just sort of
existed, as part of my life, same with things like star trek or sonic and mario and a bunch of 80s cartoons that bled into the 90s. Things just kind of latch onto you and you feel invested in knowing how they’re doing.

We all just want the best for our childhood memories shrugs

Exactly! Its like the new problems everyone has with Star Wars. Everyone looks at the original trilogy like its this amazing thing with no plot holes and the new ones are giant turds. Rewatch the original trilogy. Try it. There are LOADS of them. But because we remember in the lens of our childhoods, when we thought “laser swords and starfighters and space magic? Uh
yeah, this story is AWESOME,” we tend to overlook the plot holes.

I try to realize that most action movies and games aren’t masterpieces. I see what blizzard is trying to do here, and I can see why they think its a cool story that needs to be told. I see why most of us don’t think it’s all that great too. But in the end, I’m having a blast with friends, killing bosses in raids (no not on this toon. On my pally main, Zaltaan), and I can’t fault them for at least trying to entertain us.

I’m sure there’s faults in my reasoning. But I don’t care. I enjoy things lol

How much you guys want to bet that Derek was already brainwashed and was used to get Baine out of the way and attempt to kill the Proudmoores (or at least Katherine) in one fell swoop?

The very thought of it makes me feel nauseous too, I know. But I wouldn’t put it past Blizzard at this point. They’re pretty obsessed with strategic genius Sylvanas atm.
