Very helpful community. The first FC I joined I was confused how to be a rogue and the leader spent well over an hour questing with me until I unlocked the Airship pass. I honestly don’t have a single toxic memory of that game, although I never did any of the end game.
Also, i think wow in general could use more hands on moderation. too much of the social system is automated and it definitely shows. Right click report will never be a viable solution when it can be used by both sides regardless of who’s in the wrong.
I just read through all of that because I like knowing things. Sure, you can “know” without reading, but the devil’s always in the details.
Die.
Funny. I had the opposite effect. I can’t remember what dungeon I was in, but it had some giant plant boss. As a tank I got flamed hardcore as a new player. You can suck FF’s phallus all you want, but because of that experience you’ll never convince me that FF is less toxic community than WoW.
Wrong, I read the whole thing.
To each their own but this just sounds like a whole lotta reaching for attention. I stopped taking you seriously when you said the Zandalari troll story was more engaging then ShadowBringers.
You’ve never read a book? A pamphlet? Amazing, my friend, you are missing out!
This x100. I hated most of the story, genuinely hated it. That fetch quest spam at the end of ARR was horrific.
FFXIV bad, WoW gud.
Upvotes to the left.
I play both, both are good for different reasons /shrug.
Nothing has ever come close to wow M+ and Raiding though, so it will always be my “main” game.
I also would like to add to this… XIV’s jobs (classes) have very static gameplay styles. Like, every Red Mage HAS to play the same to be minimally viable. Every Monk HAS to play the same, etc… Tanks and Healers have more “breathing” room, because they are more or less reactive roles and aren’t 100% attached to a rotation to achieve what they need to achieve.
Wow, even withing the same spec, you might have different playstyles depending on your talent setup or itemization. Frost Mages in BfA have at least 3 very distinct playstyles. That is a big plus in WoW, I think.
That is a very noticeable aspect. The thing that I think XIV does successfully is maintaining this ‘sterile’ environment to a healthy degree. Most of the jobs are very complex. But you won’t see a new borrowed power or variable added with every new patch, sometimes causing you to re-learn your pacing and rotation.
XIV’s writing gets much better after the 1st expansion. By no means is a masterpiece, but it is very good because it has the narrative structure of a classical Final Fantasy game, and this resonates with a lot of people because they are fans of the franchise.
Also the game plays a huge fan-service to other titles with references, without losing its own story focus.
That’s my main peeve with the world as well. There are - some - incentives here and there but you often get them done pretty quickly. IMO the game that I’ve played in the last decade that does this the best is Guild Wars 2, that is tailored to have previous content being relevant whenever you want. (Hope it’s still the same, haven’t heard from it in a while).
XIV is not meant to be a PVP game, period. I wish they would just remove the pvp aspect and focus the energy on more pve features.
TL:DR: I think if you weight up the pros and the cons, the scale is somewhat even… What happens to me is that I can only focus in one mmo at a time, so I’m either playing WoW or XIV, not both. If Shadowlands turns to be another BfA in terms of quality, I’ll probably focus my attention back in XIV for the time being.
I would enjoy FFXIV more if they had more traditonal mmo races. I don’t really relate to the world or the chars at all.
I also hate how Japanese mmos make male chars look like 15 year old pop stars.
I mean the incredible hulk chars in WoW are annoying too, but I would take that over emo pretty boys any day of the week,
scratches head my male human character is very much 20-30 years old.
You mean, more races that stray away from the “human-esque” norm? I’d love that… Basically every race is a different kind of human there, and yet XIV is populated with a myriad of different non playable races.
It’s kind of disappointing that Viera is just a Elezen with bunny ears… Their feet doesn’t even have the anatomy it should, according to the source material.
never heard about ffxiv being an amazing game.
i heard about falling asleep between 2 gcds tho.
WoW supports bad play with it’s constant proc based garbage that the player themselves have no control over. FF14s is 100% based around what the player does and how well they perform their rotations. A lot of people from WoW don’t like that because it has a tendency to expose how bad they actually are.
Every single class in WoW would like to have a word with you.
I mistook proc based classes for random procs like Corruption.
this right here everyone know the best black mage will outdps every other class as it should/ why? because even the lore says black magic is freaking broken
I really wish SE would balance like they’ve said they do
They are supposed to balance around group utility, well, MCH barely has any and is third from the bottom, it should be 3-4 from the top.
