Speaking as someone who played FFXIV before WoW

I’m right there with you dude. I’m an Au Ra as well. I’ve tried other races but i just always come back to him.

I tried their version of Gnomes, the Lalafel, but it just looked too much like a child to me. Au Ra in dragoon sets look amazing. Nice to meet another Au Ra deviant lol

So my main tank was Dark knight, and my main healer was Astrologisn. Guess why I’m mad.

Oh jfc is this true.

Bag space is the bane of my existence. It does put pressure on making sure you have the right stuff in your bags though. The biggest issue for me was not playing the game the way I played WoW, especially with crafting. In WoW you just gather as much stuff as you can and grind through it. In FFXIV you do the class crafting quests and only gather the stuff you actually need. It saves you a tremendous amount of bag space, and the leveling is much, much faster.

It’s part of that fundamental difference in the design between the two games. And (I think) part of the difference in what the player wants to do. I’d love to see FFXIV design choices in WoW, but I think the differences are too fundamental for that to happen.

I 100% agree with you. Gnomes are vastly superior and their walk feels significantly more real.

Lalas walk like a baby, which given what they look like don’t do them any favours.

the music was nice, it evoked some nostalgia that made me want to play other FF games instead

i tried to hold on as long as i could to get to the ivalice content, but the controls are so clumsy and the combat just doesn’t feel as responsive as wow’s does

How are you gonna look at that and say Au Ra are ugly. You can’t. They’re awesome.

Gotta remove the space before the com because i havent been a good boy long enough.

This was a good read, OP. I typically don’t read long posts, but yours kept me interested.
I gave FFXIV several chances. I couldn’t get into it. The game is great eye candy, but otherwise… it’s pretty bad.

Damn, looking good. I completely forgot they have machinist. That might fill my Tinker craving for a while.

The biggest fault FFXIV has is that it takes WAY too long to get to the good stuff. If i didnt have friends playing it before i joined, i would have never made it to the point where the game really hooked me.

Now if only WoW could harbor the same type of community as FFXIV

They reworked Machinist for Shadowbringers, and it looks, feels, and performs amazingly. Was never a fan of it until the rework but god was it a good rework. It’s rotation just flows beautifully

I disagree with this. People in ffxiv are way harder to start conversations with

If only. Randoms in LFD in FFXIV are some of the nicest people i’ve ever seen in an online game. FFXIV is a strange anomaly where players’ first reaction to a new player is to teach them, not flame them.

All I know is I’ve tried the FF thing and can’t get into the lore nor the gameplay. I go back to WoW every time.

If you dont mind me asking, what level did you get to? In personal experience the game didn’t really click for me until around the early 40s

The introduction to the game is horrible. WoW has the edge on it by a fair bit in that regard.

Its lore doesn’t pick up until the first expansion. The original MSV is pretty brutal to get through, I agree.

I think part of that has to do with FF regulating servers more. WoW is a lot more lenient with player behavior than other MMOs I’ve played. It allows toxic elements to fester.

At least they’re going to give FF’s mentor system a try in WoW. That was really helpful, having a whole channel full of friendly people that didn’t mind answering my noob questions.

Oh wow, i had no idea they were doing that. That’s an awesome idea.

It’ll be interesting to say the least, especially at the start. I bet some trolls will get on as mentors lol
