I’m not one of them, but IK Wrath was at 12 mil, and there’s always an influx of numbers (how many, who knows?) whenever something new happens. It’s not just going to be BFA players trying out Vanilla but ex WoW players, too.
This argument seems to come mostly from people who never actually experienced them.
I would much rather be killing boars with however many other people in a shard than sitting in a queue.
I agree, however, the company is deciding to use this method instead of that method because it’s easier for them instead of having to shut down the servers.
And the first impression they’ll get is players and nodes disappearing in front of their eyes. Think of the psychological impact that has on the playerbase, because it will have one.
I get it, you want them to launch with 200 servers so the population becomes scarce after some time, so you can level with the convenience of a lower player pool.
Okay so use sharding at launch, when everyone is in the 1 to 10 zones. For say a week or two. Then don’t use it again. Problem solved.
Wrath didn’t have sharding at launch either.
Seeing as I’ve experienced all of it. I’ll take no sharding after launch thank you very much.
Sharding is anti community.
But the servers were shutting down, THAT I DO remember.
Matcauthon is a 120 rogue. Are you saying that he has never experienced sharding?
I’ve played retail extensively and still do, although I have not purchased BFA. are you saying that I have not experienced sharding?
You would rather be doing anything that takes classic as far from vanilla as possible.
Which is exactly what Blizz said, LOL

If the servers are sized properly and sharding is tuned properly it should disappear because the zones will simply not have enough people in them to need sharding.
But your arguing for permanent sharding…
Or we can just turn it off completely and never have to worry about it.
And not have to worry about other issues sharding causes.
I mean if your going to tune sharding to such an extent it never has to shard, why leave it on?
I’m not, I’m saying you’re blind if you think Blizz isn’t going to use their band-aid Sharding Solution, for all of their problems, LOL

Should they never do maintenance since that causes servers to be shutdown also?
I can only speak for myself, but I would rather sit in a queue or wait for a server to come back up than have sharding in classic. Then again, I actually desire a truer classic experience ad am not solely concerned about my own convenience.
Yeah right, you don’t want sharding because you want Blizzard to launch with as many servers as possible so you can have a convenient, low-pop leveling experience once the population thins out.

Starting zones at launch almost certainly will need something to handle population control.
If for whatever reason that happens again it needs to be on.

Like I said. Launch and never again.
I don’t care if they want to hold a holiday event. No sharding.
Aq launch. No sharding.
Classic wide group photos. No sharding.
I get what you’re saying, however Blizz doesn’t want their players to sit in a que nor get kicked off during launch. Shutdowns are reserved for maint., as they should be.
