SoM was a failure

I don’t know why this is so hard for people/blizzard to understand. Changing anything p1-6 is not going to be new or attract a new audience. Seasonal approach was dead on arrival because as stated from another person above wow is not like Diablo. Any changes made to classic should simply be a phase 7-8-9… changing classes won’t scratch the itch like people think it will. Just add on past p6 because classic has sandbox potential as it is not tied to a narrative story. GG

I dunno.
There was a lot of

Player: seasonal is bad 12 mo is not enough time

Same player 6 mo into Classic when first released:
NEED FRESH

It’s just weird. Yeah I know some changes were made on the seasonal server. But as people have reported pops are continuing to drop and the FRESH refrain began about 6 mo into SoM like clockwork.

how did he drown :expressionless:

plenty of people didn’t like the stupid world buffs in raids, so yes, changing some things in p1-6 was and is necessary.
if SoM left that crap in, I highly doubt we would have seen an influx of 10x as many people, which is what you seem to be implying.
SoM’s biggest “mistake” was being released right after most classic players wanted to take a break. which isn’t a fault of SoM.

The problem with removing world buffs is that people who like them can’t use them, tons of people play wow to parse high. Yes, I am quite literally saying that world buff lovers will not play on that reason alone. You don’t have to gather world buffs if they are available. And yea, I am implying that som would have higher pop with them. As a matter of fact If it just relaunched like 2019 with boost nerfs lotus change etc it would be very popular. Not many people want to invest hundreds of hours into a char that lasts only 1 year, which was a large reason som drove players away

Which is the exact framing he will continue to reject when discussing the dungeon finder as well.
Apparently if one can’t control themselves much less others then choice must be eliminated.

Yeah that’s why I always say the “purists” (they aren’t) are quite literally more totalitarian than any other type of wow player. They require you to play the way they want you to, or be rejected.

This sums up one big reason SoM didn’t work for me. Thanks.

All welcome

Again, SoM didn’t work for me mainly because:

  1. I didn’t want to be forced to play WoW under pressure of the clock; and

  2. then only to know that my character’s realm/community would essentially disappear after 1 year. Blizzard should NOT try to artificially force WoW (and community) into Diablo seasons.

newsflash: all WoW characters/servers/communities die eventually
searching for permanence in WoW is a fool’s errand

Yeah SoM really just wasn’t thought through enough.

Making changes to the PvP Ranking made a lot of people, at least on my server, not run any 60 dungeons, ignore most of MC and Ony, and just spam rank because it was better gear for your time.

My OPINION on the whole SoM “failure” is that they either need to give us a #nochanges server or go with ALL the changes they can think of.

If we are just going to play vanilla, give us vanilla wow without all the weird stuff. If you want to make vanilla wow with some changes, give us class balancing, new raids, new dungeons, etc.

The ranking gear phenomenon always happens. As soon as its released, the PvE content participation gets knocked hard. There is no real way to avoid that unless the gear is only wearable in battlegrounds.

I cannot stress enough that the seasonal fresh design was a massive turn-off to players who still want to play their Era toons. Why create new servers with set expiration dates, seperate them from the already-small Era community, only to then reintegrate them a year down the line? Either create a new realm or don’t. This wishy-washy nonsense is a waste of time.

Regardless of one’s views on seasonal play, both Era/SoM players can likely find common ground in that the anemic changes aren’t what was hoped for and that genuine new content should be where devs start brainstorming. New or alternate paths through Classic dungeons/zones/questlines and more Open-World Events that can be influenced by/encourage player participation are some ideas.

Heres a question: are SoM realms still considered FRESH now? Why or why not?

Just did that on a character I have logged in right now in retail, a low pop server. There are 18 people logged in on that server.

call it copium but if they did a OSRS type voting every month or two it would make a world of difference.

no. they are on AQ40 phase, bud

They have a like 5 people working on the classic team they pay and they have people paying $15 a month to play a 20 year old game. It was a successful in THEIR eyes despite all the populations falling off. Even JG is on life support

SoM worked great, and the next one will be fantastic. A lot of room temperature IQs here don’t seem to understand that half the time is “resetting interest” time. It’s not supposed to be populated. If hype was still up, then people wouldn’t turn around and play another season. Seasons need down time for the next one to be successful. Too many idiots not recognizing this is the down time. Working as intended.
