Popularity says otherwise. People like what they like. I still remember the giant thread when som was announced and page after page of “no wbuffs? Lol” “I won’t be playing without world buffs”.
Wether you like it or not, people like buffs. There is nothing magical about experiencing classic raids, they’ve been beaten to death. People make a sport out of speed running and deathless raids.
Som is low pop bc
Naturally people will go towards progressive servers TBC onward
No world buffs
Annoying raids
They prob should have waited longer to release the server most definitely, but your claim that som is better than classic is opinion, as can be seen by the statistics. You didn’t even play classic so I am unsure why you ever claim it’s bad
I’ll also add that a 12 month timeline is unattractive to many including myself, and had the rank not been as fast as it was, would have launched with MUCH less pop
I believe they actually did think it was going to be mainstream. My theory is they tried to captivate the hardcore guilds and speed runners with big names like Progress APES etc and they all lol’d when they saw the som changes and went tbc or whatever.
I mean seasons worked for D3 amirite?
Gee don’t you guys like ladders/seasons?
Blizz has a seasonal game in Diablo3 so why not give it a whirl. There is some crossover with players enjoying both games but less than they maybe anticipated.
I just think Diablo 2/3 is built for competitive seasons but not really classic. This is of course, my opinion
I believe building classic tall (classic +) is more feasible than a seasonal mold because not everyone plays wow for a competitive niche, and they like to instead build. (Chars, alts, craft, etc)
He is right. SOM was a bad idea and catering to fud players who dissapeared after 1-2 phases (imagine killing kobolds again for 900000th time) was a bad choice. Where are the SoM players who said they were gonna play now? All quit? Sounds about right.
In the meantime, those who are playing classic era are still playing and we got more from the community to join us.
The answer is simple. Classic Forever > new/temporary/seassonal servers.
They should focus on classic era as the main version of classic only, period.
But you won’t be able to move that type of product when people know they are up against people with 6 alts that have been farming naxx for 3 years. I wouldn’t play in that situation. Just trying to be realistic. You would reach a wider audience with a fresh start. There are people who cloned their chars, I’m one of them, but what if I wanted a new class?
Plenty of people despise the character wipes that come with fresh and your own admission of SoM’s underperformance would lend to that argument. Likewise, if the number of players in Era currently is insignificantly small, why would it matter if they -the players that have remained faithful to the Vanilla Azeroth- enter into the Classic+ World with their assets? You can at least be damn sure they were legitimately earned.
So you’re telling me that the player base that is so committed to building lasting relationships in game to foster a sense of community already quit… halfway through an abbreviated season? Arielba, get in here and start splaining.
‘Fresh’ start or not these new players would have to regrind everything over anyway. And the truth is they can get express progression/geared in era as there r no competition for up to tier 2.5.
If these so called ‘fresh’ players are stomping their foot about gear disparity, they are the fad dissapearing players who will likely quit after they get geared and wow classic has no place for them. I dont think anyone would want these type of players in a genuine, non-toxic community too.
We have had people work their way up from blues to naxx full bis in era. I don’t see the excuse nor the problem.
I understand what you’re saying but that comes from a standpoint based on your clique alone, and haven’t taken into consideration that players not only like a fresh start but everything else coming with it such as economy, you’re asking players to skip the AQ war effort and trivializing early game gear such as the devilsaur set. There would be no reason to even farm basically anything early game when a clique of naxx players can make all of that bypassable
Why? T3 existing in the game doesn’t make leveling gear less relevant for levelers, nor does it make the Devilsaur Set any less preRaid BiS. A sub60 toon can’t equip the naxx gear anyways and even if they could, they would have to actually do the raid to earn it.
Hell, I’m in the epic PvP set and I just finished farming the 22 Devilsaur for an up-and-coming guildy last night.
