Solution to dual spec, lower respec cost to 10g

No individual solution will ever entirely fix the problem. It is not a problem that has to be fixed in a pure dichotomous way. Allowing people to use dual spec or no spec limitation as you note retail is will definitionally lead to an improvement to tank and healer availability unless you think NOBODY will use it to access those specs as their off-spec.

It doesn’t have to fix 100% of the problem, make queues instant for everyone. Maybe it’ll make it 50% better, or 20% better, or even 10% better. It’s still worth doing, with extremely little downside.

It’s asinine to say retail has dual spec (or no spec lock) and the problem still exists. DPS queues in LFG are 5 minutes, possibly, and it’s not hard to get M+ runs on DPS. M+ also does have spec-locking to a certain degree for pugging, since people are generally invited on the strength of their performant spec’s score.

TL:DR; better is better, even if it’s not 100% better. There is no propensity for dual spec to make the problem worse; there are people who will tank or heal on their offspec, and there aren’t people that were going to be a tank or healer but will no longer be because dual spec was added.

I think you’re in the wrong section. 50g is nothing to a player at 70. In fact 2 max cost respecs per week for an ENTIRE YEAR is only 5,200g. You can make that in a few days of questing. Personally I already have epic flying on 3 chars. By the time my 4th gets 70 I’ll easily have enough for his as well. Most of all this gold came from quests.

LOL, well done. Waiting for someone to bite this bait.

When I need a tank and can’t find one I offer 50g to entice the dps to respec briefly. Usually works.

Dual Spec would be a good step in fixing the tank shortage crisis.

The shortage of tanks and healers also exists for those still leveling to 70.

I have two around 63 that still don’t have an epic ground mount. I now just barely have enough for it on one of the characters. 50 gold is a lot of gold to me

You are not an average player. It could be I’m on the poor side of the spectrum but I doubt most people have 3 70’s with epic flying on them all.

Naw.

I rerolled PvP not too long ago, so 50g is still 50g to me.

I raid Tue/Thur (hoping to have it changed to tue/wed) as soon as the raid is over I respec to pvp disc. I will NOT run dungeons in pvp disc spec. Its just not fun.

My ret pally friend tanks for us and does what i do… respecs and doesnt tank from Friday-Monday. With some type of dual spec we both would run more dungeons. But as it stands, I’ll just raid/pvp log for now.

I like when people say its easy to make gold. That part of the game is not fun to many of us. =) I was probably the reason the wow token was created. =) Its a long story.

I tank or heal if I am those specs, and if I am ret, I don’t bother trying to pve, it isn’t worth the time spent trying to find a group. If I had dual spec or tri spec, I would tank or heal, and I am sure many others would as well. Just yesterday, a guildy of mine asked me to tank and I said, nah, ret until tuesday (raid day) and stay prot until thursday (raid day 2). I tank dungeons during those two and a half / three days.

Whether or not that would fix the shortage? No, probably not, but at least then, those who have a viable alternative would have no reason to complain.

TLDR - I would tank more often if dual spec was in the game, and I am sure many others would as well.

No one wants to acknowledge this.

At which point the gamble of dealing with a crappy group vs getting the drop they wanted might be too much and would actually hurt the pugging scene.

That’s why they tried several different solutions. None of them worked

You didn’t read my initial post, did you? I didn’t say there would be no change, I said there would be no significant change. Of course some people would use it, but not enough to matter. Not only will not as many dps as you think decide to tank or heal off spec, but you’d also have existing tanks and healers decide the queue time is worth not dealing the hassle of being a tank or a healer

Aside from completely changing the meta of a period in the game that isn’t balanced around it

So basically “solution to me not wanting to play the game and farm gold”

No, play the game as it was designed, stop trying to change it.

The problem isn’t the cost.

It is having to stop what you’re doing and travel to a trainer to unlearn 61 talent points. Now you have to reapply them again to the spec you want to use, and make sure you don’t bork it up.

Then when that single run is done, you have to go back, unlearn and apply 61 points again. It is time consuming and not really enjoyable task for however long or short you get to use it.

Dual Spec was a great idea, and if it never comes til Wrath, that’s fine, but I see no harm here, especially if it had a large cost to unlock. It allows people to have their preset talents already in place and ready to go when time demands it.

I personally would love to quest in my PvP spec, but be able to help clear content with a PVE spec that helps the party.

I’d prefer a daily quest you could do to reduce the cost of your FIRST respect that day to zero.

After that eat it.

How it is in wrath is a negative change as it allows teams to switch up their comp on a fight by fight basis by having various players switch to their offspec.

It also ruins the niche that certain hybrid builds offer by being competent in two roles with 1 spec as now anyone can just swap whenever.

As I’ve suggested I’d be OK with dual spec as long as you are locked to a spec once you down a boss in an instance.

Tbc was build around spec and class identity and opportunity costs for making changes.

Dual spec removes this design which is seen in other forums as well, such as aldor skryer choice. It also removes the viability of hybrid specs like the smite priest and restkin druid.

its an interesting point. Are you purposefully ignoring my point though?

I would absolutely respec to grind rep in dungeons if it was really cheap.
