made it to lev 7 and my quests are taking me into a grey area which is why I never likes the horde, death knights etc… so I’ve discontinued my horde shaman. but for that short time, I was pleased with what I tested and what I can look forward to when cata reboots.
A grey area like, morality-wise? Or do you mean you’ve over-leveled the questing area?
I mained ele/resto spec on 2019 classic. Raided as heals, did open world farming/pvp as ele. Didn’t even need to respec. Oh look that warrior is looking at me funny…and now he’s dead. Oh, nice warlock, let me nuke you to 20%, purge your sac shield, tremor your fear, and finish you off before you get any funny ideas.
…until BWL came and I respec deep resto to pick up the healer slack we had going on. Then I couldn’t do jack in the open world anymore.
Anyway, we’re only worried about Enhancement DPS. Tanking is fine, but we’re all worried enhance will be the worst spec in the game.
More like 80dps in wsg as a shockadin. It’s like old palidan, you survive to the end wonder why your team is all dead before you’re killed. Purge purge frost shock to the target cant get away. ES for damage. Tremor totem, earthbind when needed. Throw out a heal or two. By the end of the fight youve done like 1500 damage and 600 healing and got rolled. This is how I farm. Peeks out at 110dps in bursts on grey mobs. Even rolling 12% hit melee dps on same level mobs is mid weapon damage at best is 60s. Making wsg 40-50 depending on armor. Best burst is es frost shock. Best dps is flame shock es. It’s not better than resto 1v1 because you don’t have enough burst and heal pushback. You get 1 extra shock with 5% improved shock damage every 30 seconds but lose pushback survivability of resto.
Lol 1 sec off a 6 second cooldown when you have 2 shocks being effected and 5% dmg is alot more than 1 extra shock every 30 seconds, and i average 90+ at the end of a full brd run, peaking around 150 on bosses, also no need to heal when you’re a tank with 1900hp, you heal after they’re dead
Excellent tank and we literally run the game in group PvP from P2 onward.
We are the best raid healers in the game at cap and have the most devastating burst in the game.
People need to not get stuck on level 25. Everything sucks right now, in actuality. Some classes just suck a little less because they have more of their tools
So unlock the runes.
6 second x 10 = 60 seconds. 5 seconds x 12 = 60 seconds. 5 shocks every 30 or 6 shocks every 30. If you run way of earth then it 2 extra since es is decoupled. So an extra 300 to 500 damage per 30 seconds. Or 10 to 18 dps. I prefer pushback resistance. Doesn’t make much difference cause the damage output is still meh.
Sweet ill go check out your 150 dps boss parses.
No one is worrried I think about ele resto. People are worried about enhance. We know that enhance is only next phase getting flurry, which every other melee is getting some other strong talent or as a warrior getting flurry, sword spec etc. enhance gets an imbue which in era is basically statistically similar to rockbiter albeit we don’t know any bug or unknown interactions of DW and windfury, And enhance gets 1 extra attack every 20 seconds. Currently enhance is around 22-25% below the mean dps. These items listed above aren’t really going to change that much unless massive DW bugs exist with windfury or changes. I wrote a whole post on this.
The reality is people say enhance makes GREAT tanks though have their head in the sand. Once fury prot is online or feral over takes threat, you aren’t bringing an enhance to tank. Why would you? Fury prot will do insane damage, and we know it holds monster threat. If feral tanks can continue to use wild strikes and tank you have a free totem buff with leader of the pack in your tank group. Hell they even might provide mangle still. “It’s just level 25 wait for cap” is the most don’t look up logic as the meteor is hurtling towards your spec. Enhance shamans KNOW there are huge glaring issues like unable to scale with whetstones or split stats between spellpower and attack power for your hybrid damage.
If this was classic I’d understand the well enhance is bad argument, but it’s suppose to be season of discovery where you can play the old “bad” specs. Not stuck playing the same 2 specs as we did for years in classic/private servers.
I love love love Shaman but they have always been kind of… clunky. They’re a great support/hybrid class but yeah, outside of tanking, they feel like they’re lacking. Leveling was great, I loved being able to collect gear and fill pretty much any role in the group by swapping out runes. The biggest problem is that most of the non-tanking runes just aren’t that strong and we’re still missing big pieces of our toolkit.
Elementals biggest problem has always been that they’re gated behind crucial talents like clearcasting and reduced cast time on lightning bolt until the later levels. Elemental wasn’t really practical as a spec until level 38-40 at minimum in classic. I love the addition of lava burst and overload and I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll be really great in phase 2.
Some things that would have been helpful would have been a higher rank of lightning bolt and morphing flametongue to give spell power.
Resto shaman is definitely my pve class and spec of choice and has been since vanilla. I did find it rather annoying that healing rain was gated behind a clunky and grindy reputation(which I had to do). Thankfully, it’s now friendly instead of honored but this is probably the most important healing rune for shaman. As strong as it is, players have to STACK in it and it can be very frustrating when they don’t and the lack of flexibility that comes with it makes it useless in pvp. Earth shield was gated behind the the first boss of BFD and didn’t even turn out to be that great. I occasionally swap it in during trash pulls but Shamanistic rage is just too powerful. You’ll very rarely use earth shield in pvp because the tanking rune way of earth is very strong.
Helpful additions would have something like earthliving weapon that increases healing on your weapon and procs and heal over time. The swapping in of double dual-wield stonebiter weapons to increase the mp5 return of shamanistic rage, although charming and uniquely “classic”, really made it seem like resto was an afterthought because you get a higher percentage of mana from attack power versus healing power(which is very hard to come by. I’ve literally never seen a healing weapon since the first reset).
I’m also really surprised we didn’t get some sort of cool totem rune. If we don’t get some sort of call of the elements ability where we can place 1 totem of each element at once as well as a totemic recall ability to remove our totems from the field I’m going to start to think that there aren’t any shaman players on the development team. It’s small quality of life stuff that wouldn’t even be overpowered.

As the only class with 0 hard CC, you are forced to just mindless face tank players because there is no outplay potential.

- Rogue: stuns, incaps, blinds
- warlock: fear / seduce/ death coil
- mage: poly / nova / frostbite/ Iceblock immunity for self peels
- paladin: HoJ,Repent, various immunities to self peel
- priest: blackout stun, Fear, Mind Control
- Druid: root, entangling grasp root, bash stun
Shamans can slow. That’s it.
No stun
No hex
No roots
No immunity of ANY kind
If something is on you, you are tanking it.
Shamans use to be unique, as a huge burst class in ele (irrelevant with runes added to new classes who hit very hard) and a provider of the strongest melee buff in the game (now we have feral Druids who do it and provide trauma debuff).
If you think you are taking way of earth off your pants in any open world or unorganized pvp, you are actually throwing. With the amount of mobility added to melee in SoD, you walking away from a decent player while they are slowed just is not happening.
Compared to other sod classes enhance is further behind than it’s ever been.

Second best flag runners. Extremely tanky. Best counter to priest meta with purge and shocks, and good teamplay.
Yup. But if they ever want to do damage / burst with windfury they will be one of the most flimsy melee if not the most. With 0 options to hard cc and self peel. Which is why you are pigeon holed into way of earth.
You guys definitely need love. Phase 2 is probably going to be sick for you guys with elemental. Melee will probably always struggle because anyone with mana and no mortal strike is just overshadowed by the warrior.

Blizz has ALWAYS balanced for endgame, just because its split into sections shouldnt make a difference. Kind of redundant to redo the ENTIRE balance scheme every 2-3 months. Just balance for Endgame and make slight adjustments along the way

It is exactly how I thought shamans would go honestly. Clunky versions of the retail existence. Tanking was going to get the only some what workable/interesting changes as they actually had to make it work.
Seeing the runes we got for 25 I can probably guess the runes we’re getting for rest of the season.
I hope I’m wrong and pleasantly surprised for next phase and the rest of SOD but I’m not holding my breath.
