Gdkps were barely a thing in vanilla goofy. And you can see the proof by looking at posts dating back that far. Insanely rare to see gdkps going on, and none of them at all spamming chat like they do now.
The best thing to me about GDKP being gone is hopefully no more players in my raid that treat the game like one huge transaction. No more player’s that think everyone around them owes them and that their time is more valuable than anyone elses. GDKP has always been a garbage selfish way to play “i wont play the game unless im somehow being paid for it”
And thats why its now banned, so you really only have yourselves to blame for acting like that lol. Blizzard only mentioned rmt when they banned SoDs, and it was half the reason. Everyone ignores the main reason its banned though, and its because its a garbage mindset to have. Like if you cant just play and enjoy the game without being paid, play something else?

It is more likely that you’ll have less people to play, but you might get your " tight-knit" anti-gdkp zealots playing together. It might hold up, it might not. Who knows. Time will tell, for sure.

Since they are unable to fight it, prevent botting and ensuring game integrity, they shifted this responsibility to players.
They blamed GDKP because YOU were blaming GDKPs.
You gave them all they needed to shift this blame to the players instead.
Blizzard is the one accountable and responsible for ensuring game integrity.

From all I know it dropped from mobs. I have no means to know for a fact.

You for example, just collect your gold from the auction house when you sell something.
You don’t ask yourself “is this gold legit or was it botted? hmmm”
No one does. So, small corruption dirty gold is fine because oh well gdkps are banned.
I can’t say it did or didn’t, because we don’t know 
But what I know is: it killed SoD.
From servers we could barely login to making people move out of the servers they are to one PvE server and one RP-PvP server.

Show me where it’s going to be 12 months. Tbc releasing in 2026 doesn’t mean it’s a 12 month vanilla.
As someone who don’t have as much time to play as I used to, I believe banning it is a great solution. When you have a job and children to take care of and therefor can’t dedicate yourself to the game as much as you used to, it’s great to know that you will still be able to raid without having loads of gold at your disposal.

This is a common trope from GDKP cheaters who only had sod killed for themselves because they couldn’t cheat anymore.

Ultimately the ban will have very little impact on the fresh server, it being fresh will simply draw people as fresh servers usually do, I mean even HC did and most people simply aren’t suited for it.
Raiding wise, the strong raiders already raid with a guild it was primarily alts that many of them were running in GDKPs, also with the pace that it looks like might occur, its going to be pushing hard on progression, so its unlikely most people have BIS with lots of time between phases and time to carry random pugs through content anyway. Likely there will be a reduction in pugs both due to the lack of GDKP, but also simply the pace of the phases, hard to say how noticeable this will be though. However most anyone who wants to do content however should be able to get guild groups like they always have been if they put in the effort.
Ultimately the same people will have gear, and the same wont, it’s not going to make people who couldn’t get groups before any more capable of finding a group for the most part. There will be plenty of bots and gold sellers. For those people unhappy now, they will find a reason to be unhappy in fresh, and will likely soon be requesting a new fresh, where this time it will be different.

Why are you calling people who played GDKP cheaters?
I get that it might make you feel better about yourself, but do you really feel better about yourself or you just tell yourself that?
I for example, I pity people who can’t make an argument, or is so detached from reality that makes so much mental gymnastics to spin a fact so much to play it like in favor of their argument.
It is a fact that Season of Discovery died the day they banned GDKPs.
3 communities that I knew closed immediately once they announced it.
They had more than 40k players combined. I don’t know if they all played SoD or not, but they were in those discords.
What I know is the server I was playing died couple of months after. I found myself raid logging because there was nothing else to do.
So, I don’t know from you what you gain from calling people you don’t agree with as “cheaters”, but it sounds very unhinged to me.
I think we have two situations here:

GDKP ban. This already removes a lot people from going there.

Knowing it will progress to TBC. That was not what most people were expecting.
They wanted fresh Classic and not fresh progressing servers.
So, I might be wrong – and for the sake of the fun of the people who actually are looking forward for this – I hope I’m wrong. It doesn’t look promising and may ultimately just fall off soon.
