So, what is the community overall perception with the GDKP bans on fresh?

I for one was excited to maybe go back to Classic on Fresh, but with this ban, I’m not so sure I want to go through this again.

Not because I “play because of GDKPs”, but because they’re a way I can play, gear and progress my alts.

In TBC I mained a prot warrior that I was raiding with my guild, and I’ve got a resto shaman and a prot pally that I used to raid with GDKPs so I would get some gold and buy some gear to upgrade those characters. Result: Weekly I was clearing the current tier in 3 characters, making some gold, spending more gold and gearing my characters.

I don’t see a replacement for that, and I honestly don’t want to spend more hours and hours to farm consumables to raid on 3 characters without a proper gold income.

So, what are your thoughts?

The majority of forum users are crying tears of joy at the thought of no GDKPs.

The vast majority of people in communities I’m in on discord are hesitant due to the GDKP ban and the fast cycle (1 year for vanilla is way too short unless they buff loot drops). A lot of people thinking they’ll only play 1 character, no alts without GDKPs.

I definitely won’t touch a 1 year cycle as a warrior only player (main class since og vanilla), R14 as a baseline requirement to raid is not interesting to me, and it likely will be with how short the phases are going to be.

The GDKP ban in my opinion doesn’t affect me negatively as I never used the system. I prefer good ol’ fashioned rolling.

Ok, I also prefer rolling - I don’t mind, given that you’re doing it with the same people, after all you’ll have to go there again when you’re geared, right?

But that is not really helpful with pugs.

So, how does it work for you? Do you play just one character, or do you raid in multiple characters? Fixed schedule or raid when you’ve got the chance?

I’m curious about people that are not affected by GDKP ban and how do they play and organize themselves.

They’re probably gonna allow cross faction transfers into era when the Classic Phase reaches the end of it’s life time…

I expect that we’ll get a longer TBC pre-Patch than we got last time… in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave us the Pre-patch at the same time as Naxx… would be interesting…

I can’t stand rolling anymore. I’ve rolled less than 50 on everything on this warror since cata raiding started.

The ‘pay for gear’ crowd is up in arms again.

I start with one character I main and hit 60, and then I level another alt or 2 cause the leveling experience is an actual journey. I stick with my main and try to find a guild to raid in 1 or 2 nights a week and then pug on alts to relax. Even when I had gear on my main and the guild was off for the week I still enjoyed going to SR and MS/OS pugs just for the sake of meeting people. I don’t need gold/gear to incentivize me wanting to raid while bored because I wanna play with the community on occasions.

A rare breed, I’ve played too much vanilla to enjoy raiding with randoms that make the raids harder than they need to be.

I am so happy its being banned. You should not have to kill all the bosses then also buy gear. Join a guild with a loot system you like. If you raid with the same people every week then you’ll likely get your gear.

Being a sweatlord turned me into a loot goblin, and I hated it. Now I play the game for fun and meme cause why not? I support hunters for TF, and boomkins for sulf.

So like OG vanilla then? I mean people did have alts back then but we mostly all played our mains. Your main had a reputation. Seems to me that banning GDKP might send classic back into its vanilla roots which is only a good thing.

I just don’t have the free time to justify it anymore. I’ll either play with people who are fun to be around in a system I like or I just don’t play. 20 years has been more than enough of me treating it like a job.

The reputation exists just fine with social media like discord. If you’re a rat you’ll get outed and everyone will know no matter what alts you hide on, it’ll get linked back eventually.

Not really on mega servers. Mega servers make it possible to be a rat because theres no way 10k people will know you are a rat. There are too many guilds these days who let their players run wild too.

Also, If a rat is on an alt how will anyone know?

I mean, that’s always been an issue on mega servers, has nothing to do with GDKPs.

to answer your second question, because people don’t change their behavior just because they’re on an alt. A rat is always a rat. Don’t play on mega-servers if you want the community feeling. It’s the same issue with RDF, people get really comfy being psycho’s because you won’t see them again.

Why are you telling me “dont play on mega servers”? I understand all this. I’m not here asking for advice.

If you feel like you HAVE to get bis in order to feel accomplished, I understand. But this is an opinion thread, and my opinion is that you need to try and enjoy the journey more. Sit back and take a look around, it may not be new but we’re here because we love it.

I would’ve given it a try, but no gdkp = hard pass. It’s already got me purely raid logging and leveling zero alts on sod, I’ll just go play retail instead tbh

Less about BiS and more that I enjoy doing well on any video game I’ve ever played. Part of the enjoyment of any game is the steady progression (to me). Going months without upgrades is boring. Especially because I can’t even play up the self-improvement arc on vanilla anymore since I’ve played it so much.

This fresh will fail on every front for me,

1, with the short tiers, 3 months per tier to get gear and then new raid to farm

2, because that means you’ll have to raid more to get upgrades from previous tiers because they likely won’t drop enough

3, because it means I’m forced to go R14 or get nothing/very little every tier (I genuinely think this is required for warriors on a short cycle, there simply won’t be enough loot to go around with the amount of warriors in raids in the first place)

4, no GDKP’s so if the group I play with doesn’t want to go back to previous raids to avoid burnout (understandable) I won’t go to pugs and risk getting saved with only 1 or 2 bosses dead (more raid logging simulator, already doing that on cata and sod, why add another?)

I think this is going to be a catastrophic failure, we’ll see though.
