If they are attacking you through WoW, highly unlikely as that is, then email hacks@blizzard.com with all the information you have. If they are actually abusing WoW to DDOS you somehow, I can guarantee you that Blizzard won’t take that lightly. Though I don’t know how they would do a denial of service attack through the WoW servers, much less a distributed denial of service attack.

Otherwise, report the attack to your ISP. Note that Blizzard doesn’t own the internet, and if you have exposed your IP address through some third party service, there is nothing Blizzard can do about that.

I guess that could be considered highly unlikely the way you put it. However, it can’t be a coincidence if you kill someone 3 three times on a Horde character and your internet magically gives you a denial of service. My girlfriend witnessed them respawn and laugh at me.

If someone has enough information to launch a DDoS attack against you, they didn’t get that information through the client, the Battle.net app (or any other Blizzard software), nor did they get it from Blizzard directly.

Correlation does not equal causation.

They aren’t getting your IP address from WoW. Are you on chat server with them or something? It sounds like you’re just making assumptions here, but your best bet is to contact your ISP, whether it’s a denial of service attack or a technical issue.

If you’re convinced that they’re attacking you through WoW, then email the hacks address and make sure to provide all the details you have.

I’m sure you experienced something, but a DDoS is a bit far-fetched. If you can describe in detail what you’d experienced, perhaps someone can figure out what happened.

That said: if someone DDoSed you, that’s police territory.

What do you mean by this? Some kind of error message?

Was as ddos is an illegal act and allot can be done about it provided you can proove that they are sending the packets to you.

No. just my internet refusing to do actual tasks. Like BNET not connecting. Wow opening but making it so that I cannot login. I was on FaceTime with my girlfriend and she was saying it said “Poor connection” and the call just dropped. Cortona actually opened and asked me to talk more so she can better understand me even though I don’t have a microphone plugged in. Those were my symptoms.

Your ISP is in the best position to see what’s happening on their network and whether there is a ddos attack going on, but you can also open your Task Manager and look at your network activity. If you’re really experiencing a ddos attack, the network traffic will be off the scale.

I mean I opened netstat up at the moment it happened

IMO you’ve experienced a coincidence. However, if you want to pursue the ddos route, I’ll echo what the others said; it’s best to get your local police and possibly hacks@blizzard.com involved.

If not, and you just want to troubleshoot your connection, I’d take this issue over to Tech Support where they can look at a winmtr or ask the appropriate questions to find out what’s going on.

If it only happened once, I’d honestly chalk it up to a fluke.

Good luck either way :+1:

Not saying I know a LOT about connectivity but…with so many people now under the “stay at home” orders/recommendations, it is likely your ISP just got overburdened.

Again, I know a lot about fixing things on my personal computer and my Android phone, but not a whole lot about internet issues.

I’ve been on the receiving end of a DDoS attack before. We had to phone our ISP and get our IP address changed to stop it. If you can get online you are not likely the victim of a DDoS attack.

That is a more likely scenario. It’s Easter Sunday. Even some of the business classified as essential are likely closed today. That would put a higher load on home internet.

It was like 2-3am and I live in EST.

In order to ddos, you have to have the person’s IP address. It’s not possible to get that from the WoW client. It’s impossible.

But is it though

It really isn’t possible. It doesn’t take a bunch of people saying that it isn’t… if you’re concerned that they got your IP from somewhere, then it would have to be through much more nefarious means than through World of Warcraft.
