using wi-fi is like leaving your door unlocked when you leave the house.
Cause people on the internet say so, just like how WoW is always “dying”.
It should be pinned in this forum too but it’s at least in CS.
My take is straightforward: Blizzard is now owned by Microsoft. Microsoft likes to collect your data. By installing the app you agree to allow:
-
This app to share the following data with 3rd parties:
Personal Info, App activity, App Performance -
This app collects the following data:
Personal Info, Messages, Email Addresses
There are a thousand easy ways to handle 2FA security, that’s not the purpose of this app.
i have landline phone, no idea how to use cell phone and watching my mokos (grandchildren) always on them i def dont want one, if i have to buy a phone to play wow i am gonna be pretty peeved
The battery in mine just started signaling it was almost gone so I had to decouple from it. I have a flip phone but I’m not sure it will work, it can get texts but is not a smart phone.
this never was its purpose.
You do not. They aren’t getting rid of the physical authenticator. Someone posted earlier:
multiboxers have many account.
Because “hacking” largely isn’t a thing. People give their information away and then wonder how someone else could possibly have that information.
If you’re not running around with a keylogger from crappy internet practices, aren’t logging into blatant phishing websites, aren’t having your account piloted by some random RMT website, and don’t have all of the necessary info for account recovery on your Facebook page, chances are your account is safe (barring some massive data breach which would almost definitely be officially announced so you can change your info).
I gave in and got the dang thing,it died a horrible death on holloween ,yeah it’s costly .I hate the ball and chain.
Unwilling? I have all kind of tech. Sorry where I live provides me with the work/money to afford all the tech I have. If Cell Phones worked properly around here I’d go get the whole family one and do away with the landlines. Blizzard could just use the google authenticator like everyone else but no they want you to pay an extra phone bill maybe serveral if more than one person in the home plays and a subscriptions. Not to mention 90 dollars for an expansion because if you pay for the $50 you get left behind.
From the support article listed above you can use WiFi with an old cellphone or tablet.
Enabling an Authenticator
What you need
- Your mobile device (iOS, Android)
- Cellular data or Wi-Fi
I tried it it ask for a mobile number every time maybe they need to update that.
Oh man, I am going to be very unhappy if I need to start calling in to Blizzard to authenticate. I personally feel that the business has gone down hill since they started to hire trolls for the call centers.
It’s just not good form to be answerin’ da phones like, “How you doin?” - It throws people off and feels a lot like a cheesy pick-up line.
Ack. What a hassle. I know it’s not ideal, but if you poke around the Overwatch 2 forums around launch, you’ll find people had options for rentable SMS numbers that it will accept.
I didn’t even know they still sold the physical authenticators.
We all love this game quite a lot here we have WoW collectables all over the place etc. But it feels bad that not everyone can continue to play and feel safe.
And apparently top smart phone models with Warcraft Rumble apparently. Also, how is that game already in Season 2? It’s barely been out for a month. It’s apparently going to get 12 Seasons a year.
Why do they do something like this? As you’ve already written, you don’t need this kind of nonsense in other games either.
