Thank you!
Thank you for catching this HUGE error! Why people donāt read and comprehend basic language is beyond me. You are doing Eluneās work lol
I thought it was just me when I got that GM response, then I told a friend, āA GM is saying get exalted.ā
Then I realized something when I started looking deeper. The quest was moved to the Embassy and could only be done once - and only triggered the flag for that one character.
As I Googled Mechagon and Mechagnomes, I found a few bug reports that didnāt get any traction. After more investigating and finding out it was a quest flag and, since quests are individually based - anyone who canāt do the quest can no longer be flagged for it. Since Kelsey no longer spawned, that meant Aysa provided the quest in the Embassy. However, Embassy quests can only be done once and Aysa sends you to Kelsey, the original quest-giver.
Mechagnomes probably should be flagged by default for it.
Is there a purpose for this instance other than unlocking playable mechagnomes?
If itās just a phased version of mechagon used in a quest that only needs to be done once per account it makes sense that you canāt get to it.
Itās actually not phased. Itās an open area. Multiple people can go there and interact. Itās an RP area on some servers, in fact.
I even showed this in the guide where I noted you can see Mechagnomes starting out there.
Seems nothing of actual value is being lost here. Itās a niche spot devoid of any actual ingame benefit like quests and content. So long as you can unlock robognomes as a race and the game doesnāt break doing so and/or creating one doesnāt break anything, there isnāt any actual harm being done.
Youāre talking like an ultra niche subset of players affected here. Iām even one of them since I have both a robognome and this DK long since earned access to this city Iāve probably been to like once if that.
Like besides RPing, is there any actual āstuffā being lost here? Any unique collectibles or questlines being blocked or anything like that?
That doesnāt mean itās not phased, just that all the people you see there are in the same stage of a quest that puts them in that phase.
But again, if it has no game purpose other than the setting of a once per account quest it sounds like the bug was people were getting there and using it for other purposes.
And it may have been causing other unintended phasing bugs or allowing for exploits. Like hiding in there for PvP maybe?
Mechagnomes arenāt on the quest. Your entire argument fails at this point.
And is it that hard to just add a flag to an allied race? The same flag that lets the Lightforged and Void Elves go to their respective areas by interacting with an object (portal)? Theyāre a pretty niche subset, too.
No my actual argument does not fail. Unlocking mechagnomes is content. The race itself is content. Anything collectible/purchasable is content. If someone meets the requirements to unlock mechagnomes canāt do it because the quest itself bugs out or a newly created mechagnome canāt escape and get to SW, or there are rewards unable to be obtained because you canāt get to this subzone, thatās a worthy problem. Having some niche place to hang out and talk in /say isnāt worth wringing our collective hands over.
Youāre not Quixote.
How about having access to areas nobody else can get to (even the race that starts there) because of an oversight? I do believe thereās an innkeeper.
People pre BFA can have multiple characters that can go there (pre BFA accounts). Any alts have no access (post Embassy / rep removal).
Post BFA - only one on your entire account (Post BFA account). Any alts have no access.

Are people seriously getting mad that others may want to access parts of the game they could before, especially for RP instances?
People are legitimately getting upset over that and think nobody should be allowed to access a starting zone?
I must be misunderstanding. I have to be.
reads it again
Nope, people are even equating Mechagon Island to Mechagon City. Iām out, good luck with the āI donāt care about it so itās bad for the gameā crowd.
ā¦ I mean, this most recent one is pretty mad and seems to be coping with: āDoes it really matter? You donāt gain anything.ā
Yes, you do. You gain access to an entire area freely.
I know Iām not? I donāt get your point there.
Having an innkeeper isnāt a justifiable reason to stress over. You can set your hearthstone to the literal hundreds of other locations. I keep all of them on hand and use each fairly regularly to get around the world faster.
This is like the local Johnny Bravo fan club who occasionally all meet at a specific park bench that got removed storming the white house and demanding a national emergency being declared and getting it fixed ASAP. Like there are much bigger issues in the current and future game that desperately need the time and attention than this.
Whose mad? Not me. I just disagree that this is in any way an actual credible problem.
You can literally do a teleport run from Mechagon to SW.
If you race change that alt, you can even run from Stormwind to Mechagon faster than you can utilize hearthstones and back. Itās actually quite efficient for selling the parts and pieces you can collect from farming in the area on the AH.
-Insert line of code, flagged quest X complete.- A GM can do this in under a minute for a single character. Iāve had quests flagged as complete due to errors before.
And before you start going on some tangent. If you race change any race to Undead, Goblin, or Gnome, you gain access to taming the types of things they can tame without the items. They are automatically flagged to be able to do so.
Yea this is the part thatās most baffling to me. The idea that an area has to have SOMETHING in it to warrant allowing players to go there is just dumb. Itās scenery. Itās an open world. RPGs allow exploration, and not every single space is going to have utility beyond RP and scenery. Fixing this issue has zero negative impact on anyone elseās game experience. Zero.
I have a mechagnome. He has the Legion Dalaran and I think Garrison hearthstone in addition to the regular one. If I need to get to SW, I either go the normal way to Oribos or hearth to Dalaran and take the portal there.
Iām not against your special little zone being taken away. Iām saying it isnāt in anyway a priority to fix. It being important to you and a literal handful of RPers isnāt worth the dev time/effort to fix especially when there isnāt anything actually noteworthy being kept or otherwise unobtainable in the subzone. Itās almost certainly more complicated than āflagging a line of codeā. Also GMs (supposedly) havenāt been able to actually edit quest progress in a very long time.
ā¦ A literal minute? You just have to make the flag account-wide. Or just flag Mechagnomes in general similarly to the thing from above.
Translation:
āI really donāt care about this and I donāt see why anyone else should either.ā
Okay. The folks who DO care still want it fixed.
Well, someone came out and said it. Good on you.
