So I Checked The New UI

It’s good, and I want to like it. But it just doesn’t have enough features. I would like the team to keep adding features over time, and not abandon it as is.

For example, I would like the following features:

  • Control over individual components’ size.
  • Ability to break bars into several small bars.
  • Chat panes need to be resizable.

Are there any features you want the new UI to have? Do you disagree with me? What are your thoughts?

Edit: Thank you to those who have given responses that clarified the new UI to me. I missed some details it seems before making my original post. But I still believe the UI should be further improved from it’s current state.

One thing that may not be intuitive to all users (like me) is that once edit mode is on, you have to click a second time on an element to adjust its settings. I missed some features on my first few passes (I tested on three different classes) because some features are only available on these second menus.

Revised list of changes based on feedback in this thread:

  • Bag bar and Systems bar and other non-action bar elements cannot be edited, and we should be able to. - Amarlly, Drocos
  • Improve Guild Master tools. - Brahmina
  • Need option to keep Raid Frames open even while solo. - Wigglytuff
  • We need to be able to hide action bars, or only hidden until mouseover. - Sorelai, Gojjira

I hope people read this post, and any edits, as something to help them understand the new UI. It has many good features, and it is cause for hope that the wow ui can be improved so that players won’t feel compelled to seek out third party addons. This thread can also serve as a good place for players to drop suggestions for new features, if they have any.

Yeah I agree. It doesn’t allow nearly enough customization for me to stop using my current addons but it’s a step in the right direction.

Yes. We need them to keep going. It’s better than before at least. Hopefully we get more improvements over time.

I like these ideas.

I also want the guild UI updated and a fix to the permissions that got broken before BfA launched. Ion claimed they were working on it four years ago. It ought to be done by now.

I hadn’t realized that because I’m not a GM. Wow, they just dropped the ball there. Hopefully they can incorporate GM controls into this. It seems like it should fit in scope.

Z-Perl is still a work of art compared to whatever Blizzard can produce.

I don’t use Z-Perl myself, but I’m sure it’s great.

My reason for hoping the UI team keeps going on the native UI in wow is so we don’t have to use third party software. I think they have the ability to do this.

Assuming that the Blizz UI changes don’t break every other UI addon.

Even the new unitframes are awful to look at.

I’m sure that addon makers will be working on compatibility. The only addons not likely to make the transition are the addons that aren’t supported anymore for one reason or another.

I’m still team ELVUI all the way.

I respect that.

Edit: ElvUI is too much work for me. But I have used it, and it’s great when it’s set up right.

I assume you mean everything but the bars? Because the bars and a few other things do scale in size.

Is there any addon that can do this?

They are.

Let me move the XP bar, the bag bar and mini menu, along with resizing the map.

I just want to be able to move the bag/menu bar (preferably independently of each other), XP bar, and move the gryphons independently from the actionbar, otherwise I’ll still need to use MoveAnything to get the UI looking the way I like it :frowning:

@Thallia With bartender, I can take a bar that isn’t being used (there are several for most classes), and add a few buttons (not all 12) for specific things like consumables. It’s my preference.

You can actually do that with the Blizz UI as well. Plus you can select if you want it to be be verticle/horizontal, make it multiple rows/columns, choose the button size/spacing, and pick how many buttons you want.

In the bars aspect the new UI is almost exactly like bartender. Its the other UI elements that are lacking like the mini menu and the bag button

It’s not really a UI update as much as it is adding in a few mods into the core UI. For the most part I don’t see it really replacing any of the UI mods I am currently using on live.

I’ll have to go back and look at it again. I missed those options.
Edit: Forgot to say thank you for pointing it out. :+1:

Does the new UI allow you to show raid frames while solo?

I can add or subtract buttons on bars with Dominos, as well. The new UI does the same.
