bullroar, Hellfire Assault was essentially impossible to solo unless you had a cheese class/spec to solo the fight. The fix was implemented two years ago
I was on my Balance Druid. Aside from one fight, that place could be done without needing a group. Now you can’t even walk into the door of Mythic ToS and beat the first boss. Four years and two expansions later.
It’s so refreshing to read something from someone that is logical. Krexen hit the nail on the head! I’m at 196. I worked my way up to it. Would like some more solo type world quests that is a little more challenging, like a true dungeon that can be run solo. There’s a place for solo players. I thought Blizz wanted to make some money. Have all levels of game play and make tons of money. That’s not hard to understand now, is it? I want to work for better gear, but I’m a solo player. There’s many of us out here. That’s life.
Of course they do. It’s smart to hold community events featuring pros and influencers to get some outside eyes on what you’re doing.
I killed the first few bosses in Heroic Nathria at 186 ilvl. Covenants give 197 ilvl gear. Nobody is being kept out of M+ dungeons or raids because of gear.
You might. But every time Blizzard has tried this, they’re met with howls of complaints that it’s too hard.
Solo players: “We want challenging solo content!”
Blizzard: “Here’s Mage Tower.”
Solo players: “IT’S TOO HARD!!!”
Solo players: “We want challenging solo content!”
Blizzard: “Here are Horrific Visions.”
Solo players: “IT’S TOO HARD!!!”
Solo players: “We want challenging solo content!”
Blizzard: “Here’s Torghast.”
Solo players: “IT’S TOO HARD!!!”
Solo players: “We want challenging outdoor zones!”
Blizzard: “Here’s The Maw.”
Solo players: “IT’S TOO HARD!!!”
In addition, players complain about content like the mage tower because it doesn’t reward gear/ player power. If the solo content does reward gear/ player power, raid loggers complain about forced content…
I’m quoting this for how true it is.
You don’t here me say that, nor will I. If I don’t like the Maw, I won’t do it. But I’ve leveled up enough that I don’t mind playing the Maw. I just don’t like walking everywhere like I did at level 1. So I kinda stay away from Maw. Let me ride a mount and I’d be in there a lot.
You can get a mount from Torghast. It’s a guaranteed drop, even.
Even better, it’s solo content! Solo content that gives you a mount for solo content.
So why haven’t you done that?
Your experience isn’t representative of 5M people, even if you’re extremely self-centered.
Two things:
- It’s rarely the same people who complain about ‘wanting challenging content’ and ‘something being too hard’. Different people complain on each side.
- Torghast and the Maw aren’t ‘too hard’, they’re badly implemented.
The Maw removes access to all the mounts we’ve collected, has virtually no interesting rewards, and increases difficulty in ways that feel frustrating rather than challenging.
Torghast is fun(for some), but has literally no reward structure to it that encourages poeple to actually make it the ‘thing they do in WoW’. Which is what, when people talk about challenging solo content, they usually want. They want something they can commit to to be the ‘Thing They Do in WoW’. TC is a sideshow. Do it once and never go back. Regular Torghast is an hour a week and then you’re done.
Don’t laugh at me, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do to run Torghast without a quest to do so. I’ve been in there due to quests and I like it. But as I said, how. Do I just enter and head out?
- Enter Torghast sub-zone.
- Open map.
- Look for “Twisting Corridors”.
- Enter.

because raiders quit too?
To get the mount, youi have to first unlock Twisting Corridors, which comes from a quest. Once you’ve completed the quest run of TC, it unlocks TC as a repeatable content. On some levels, you get a reward. The level 8(highest level) reward is a mount that can be used in the Maw. It’s an ugly mount… but it can be used in the Maw.
Thank you. I’m glad I asked. Just never knew. I gotta tell ya, I’m not the sharpest tack in the box. I’m 74 and not nearly as sharp as I once was before my heart decided to stop working 7 years ago. Something about the lack of oxygen messes with the brain.
the lie
the truth
Solo players: “We want ways to gear solo and fun engaging things to do”
Blizzard: “Here’s Torghast.”
Solo players: “IT’S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING
what’s next? player housing??
Thank you. That’s the best explanation I’ve seen about it yet. Good on ya.
Edit" Was just thinking, where do I get or how to I get the quest?
Excuse you, it’s also to buff top performing specs and nerf middle of the pack specs.
