Skyriding is soo stupid lmao

Not “gimmicky”, “Childish”

What on earth could possibly equate Skyriding with being “childish”, seriously?

To be fair “childish” is almost off-limits since it’s a video game for a wide audience (of course it’s family friendly), so I preferred “gimmicky” - like the mounted combat in Nagrand. Imagine if that mounted combat was available everywhere and was the default, that’s the level of disruption to the feel of the game skyriding is responsible for.

Blizzard doesn’t exactly polish the game. They ensure the game is relatively functional, then they abandon it for creating future content.

Most video games do this ^. Only the best video games actually focus on quality.

If you mean animation canceling, lower poly assets, etc. of course - it’s not about having the most polished or realistic experience.

Skyriding is more focused on the realistic experience, where the classic flight style feels more like the rest of the game. It matches how you move along the other axes, even how zeppelins and gnomish airplanes fly. Nothing else in the game moves like skyriding, it breaks the whole feel of the game.

Skyriding is great for moving long distances, some of the zones have massive height differences, like HF. It’s also pretty fun.

I prefer steady flying for gathering though. They both have their own strengths.

The one thing I don’t really like is Blizzard making all mounts either or, they were better off when some mounts worked one way and others another, so you could have both options on your toolbar without waiting on a 5 second cast.

More like skyriding is focused on maybe having some fun while traversing zones while normal flying is just means to an end and in my opinion extremely boring and slow.
Not falling asleep while flying from point A to B is a big plus, making gathering fun (even if less efficient) is also good.
Other than that your take is garbage and hopefully you’ll learn how to skyride properly one day, it’s not that hard.

it just finally dawned on me what sky-riding feels like:

remember growing up at those rubber band planes? wind it up and zoom, off it goes but in wow, it regenerates (self winds itself).

wut

Maybe, I guess. The same could be said for any new system WoW chooses to add.

also sure they did pal

The same could be said for any new system WoW chooses to add.

Exactly, there are a lot of things they could add to worsen the game and this is one of them. The way they did Garrisons vs the way player housing was discussed was also quite a flop. They make mistakes all the time. What point are you making beyond this observation? It just seems like it reinforces the complaints.

It’s not like they implemented the feature very well either. Other players just skip across the map now because the tick interval of the game does not even keep up with their XYZ changes. Can’t permanently disable it. Most mounts don’t have animations for skyriding. It’s very clunky.

Might be different if they "improved flying mounts" but skyriding aint that.

sure they did pal

They did. I edited it changed it back, so far so good. Only on Hacker News have I ever seen text actually edited by mods without it saying so in the post. That’s deceitful IMO

Someone’s being deceitful, that’s for sure.

Why is this even a topic of debate and protest? You have the choice to switch Skyriding on or off.

Deal with it.

so’s whack-a-mole

False. The option changes back automatically any time you zone. Apparently a well-known bug that Blizzard hasn’t gotten around to fixing (hmm). Who’s the smart guy now you thought you were so smart just now but actually were wrong. Sad.

@Snowpine Yes they can and do edit posts and did edit the title of this one. I edited it back and so far they have left it.

Um no?

YOU can go toggle off skyriding and let the rest of us enjoy it.

Like so many others you are wrong. There is no way to permanently disable skyriding in WoW.

That would be awful, imagine trying to land on a perch or something and surging forward. Be like trying to use a sniper with high sensitivity

If it’s so stupid why are you laughing so hard?

And to be clear that is not what I put forth in the original post and what people are echoing. Maybe some people want that but I think most people want the regular flying as-is to be the default (not a super fast version).

That’s why there’s a toggle. You’re more than welcome to use your static flying instead of skyriding.

Like many others in this thread you are incorrect! There is no way to permanently disable skyriding. You might think switching flight style does it, but you’re wrong. It changes back later.
