Hopefully they balance it well. Frost is getting two handers back but as it stands it will perform worse than dual wielding.
I really hope they don’t drop the ball on this. I always hated dwing on a DK (don’t ask me why.)
lol It’s never been the case. TG vs SMF was a balance nightmare from Wrath until they dropped SMF in Legion.
Yeah just like it always was before they removed SMF. So what?
Worgen berserker form, activated!
So why bring back the headache?
So…I guess enjoy having my Warr beat yours because you gimped yourself by using lower stat weapons?
Is there some sort of buff smf is meant to give you to offset?
i mean tooltips don’t show the true power of a spell these days. i’d rather wait for the sims. that extra attack speed from 1 handers and that 8% damage might compete. though titans grip builds will definitely be tankier.
Because people loved it! I think swinging around 2H weapons with one hand looks ridiculous. And I love the image of quickly carving up an enemy rather than chopping at him.
But you have options for that. TG only exists on one class and one spec.
Most of the time, SMF was the superior setup. Yes. Read the OP’s image.
Maybe Blizzard should make two handers that aren’t twice the size of my body and clip through me every time I walk forward.
I’m all for balance but I haven’t seen anything to suggest they’ll be better at it now than they were in the past.
I was always in the camp of just easing 1-hand / 2-hand transmog restrictions instead of SMF, but this lets people play their characters how they want. If it isn’t the cold and calculated “Best” option, that’s the player’s decision. Adding choice back to the game is a good thing.
Ah I see it. 8% boost. Wonder how that will stack up in the end.
I get the impression from a lot of Shadowlands design that Blizzard is stepping away from designing around min-maxing.
Letting you min-max if you wish, but still have more personal preference options for those who want them. Better than just outright removing them.
This opens the way for more diverse and fun playstyles at a casual level.
It usually depends on so many factors. Sometimes a flat DPS boost is better than a stat boost, and sometimes it isn’t. There are so many variable at play including the stats on the weapon, how much of the stats the char already has, buffs, debuffs, etc.
Flat DPS boost always favors mid-late expansion. I wonder if the movement speed stacks. Either way, I’ll be TG, but I won’t enjoy arguing about optimal setup.
Too bad the game is a spreadsheet simulator and you’re gonna be forced into one or the other based on normal distribution means.

Especially due to how weirdly two handers scale visually. Quite often they look awkward.
