You know you can mass report someone to get them silenced until blizzard reviews…then a few days later mass report again.
There is an appeal process for all of Blizz’s systems. Suspension, ban, silence, and even forum punishments. Whether it is effective or not is up for debate, but it does exist.
False flagging? Are you talking about forum punishments or in game punishments?
Yes, the in game silence system has a stacking punishment. Usually it starts at 24 hours then doubles each time a new infraction is dealt with. Honestly, I am in the opposite camp where if someone gets up to a year that’s too lenient. The player clearly didnt get the message after many chances, and yet they can still technically play. Probably best to just ban (not suspend) them way before they hit the year mark honestly.
You would have to submit evidence showing that anything other than a squelch is automated. I am not as confident as I once was when it comes to Blizz carefully handling these types of things, but it’s really hard to prove that a silence is automated.
Honestly though I cant imagine how anyone gets up to a year in a silence outside of being stubborn. If I got hit a few times I would stop typing in public channels where I could be reported. Nothing to click in chat means no silence.
emote - gesture - all other sorts of obscene things, especially if they are a priest or an evil hunter
I don’t think it’s a slippery slope in any sense of the phrase that Silenced players are punished more when their behavior usually doesn’t change.
I do hope blizzard will show that false reports get MASSIVE pushback if found out. For example, you mass reported just to get someone squelched and try to silence them? Well now all the faux reporters are punished with 3 silence levels, if anyone didn’t know silences ramp up in severity for each additional time it happen.
Player A: “Hey , I’m really sorry, but I don’t think you’re quite ready for this level of content. I’m not sure if it’s your gear or not, but you might want to check out a guide like Icy veins before going for this again.”
Player B: “OMG , how are you so *&(%ing bad at this game? Do you need me to drive to your house and push your buttons for you? Just leave group and uninstall the game to save us all the trouble of dealing with you!”
Both of these players are informing someone else that their damage is low. One of them deserves to be soft-banned for a day or two.
You get auto-silenced based on how many reports you receive, less than 40 because I know someone who got auto-silenced in AV. Might be based on number of reports in a certain time frame, but it’s automatic. Lazy system that can be abused, but doesn’t affect a majority of people because it’s usually only happening if you get reported in a large raid or bg.
Just because we’re all used to it doesn’t mean we should just accept it or pretend it’s fine.
it already gets abused mass reports just get you silenced then you go thru a lengthy process even if the system was abused to prove you wasn’t wrong lol. sure this is awesome. you guys crack me up sticking up for garbage should of just kept the ban no play in the first place always just got to be changing stuff good luck on waiting forever even if you wasn’t wrong i’m sure they didn’t hire new people to speed the process up obviously.
When a blizzard employee has to manually review the chat before they apply a silence penalty, how exactly are there “false reports”
I’d need to see more info on this, but if someone is silenced for a year, they have been actioned many many times.
Since the first penalty is 24 hours and it doubles each time, they would need to have been silenced 9 (Nine) times to have a 256 day penalty applied.
I really, really doubt they are the victim of false reports. They are probably super toxic in BG’s over and over again.
you think it is auto silenced after many reports then you have to prove over time it was bs. it takes like 2 secs to get silenced way faster than anyone can review anything.
The status quo is irrelevant. If you need Blizzard to forcibly remove someone from the servers because they said something mean to you then you probably have other larger issues that you need to work on. Like going outside or experiencing some uncomfortable social situations so you don’t need a proxy parent to save you from mean words.
“I was in this group where EVERYONE ELSE was being super bad and when I politely pointed it out, they vote kicked me, killed my dog, and now I can’t apply to groups??? Blizzard is PANDERING to the snowflakes and the CRYBABIES”
You’re describing a squealch. A silence penalty is only applied after manual review.
I wouldn’t bother with them. It doesn’t fit their agenda. They are gonna believe whatever they want.
sure it is that what they said about silencing now it takes 1 to 2 seconds bam done and then whenever they feel like it they will review. i know cause i’ve emails a day later saying why and then if you wanna appeal. i deserve mine but it does get abused and to many people think everything is toxic just like these forums.
What do you mean it takes “1 to 2 seconds bam done”?
you get dc’d it takes 1 to 2 seconds your silenced.
You are probably describing a squealch, or receiving a silence penalty from something you said in the past. There is a review queue and it might take a while to get to whatever you may have been reported for.
For example, you could have been toxic on Tuesday, and the penalty was applied today after it was eventually reviewed. The silence penalty was attached to the toxicity from Tuesday, not what you might have been saying today at the moment they applied the penalty.
exactly takes awhile but it’s okay to just silence people people for wrong things lol. don’t tell me nothing you have no idea you didn’t even understand the 1 to 2 second thing. it tells you exactly what it was it takes 1 to 2 seconds and mass reporting is automated go away this stuff has all been discussed before and proven since they have inplemented this. it’s a lengthy garbage filled you gotta prove yourself right it has been proven over and over it’s automated and it will get abused. sure you don’t wanna believe no one go look stuff up it’s there. and blizz never denied it so it says alot.
If hang around on the CS forum enough, you’ll see threads from people upset they was caught abusing the report system. That usually results in a 3 day break, and it stacks.
