Keep on replying crusader, I am not reading your replies. Bye.
Right. Call people names, and say they are wrong and that nobody should listen to them even though you don’t read their posts yourself. Do you somehow not comprehend that you are the ignorant one here?
Quick Shot in that concept is only meant to act as a minor filler/bonus spender.
Also, since it appears that we are getting Arcane Shot baseline in SL, better to just remove Quick Shot and have ArS do what Quick Shot does for the intended playstyle.
Incl the set bonus/bonus perk mentioned further down, the interaction it would have with Exotic Munitions.
You also have the option to talent into a more engaging filler-ability if so desired, for a different approach altogether.
This is basically how the major CD is designed(incl the passive of allowing you to stack Black Arrow up multiple times), in that concept.
I decided to make the spread mechanic for BA more situational as that could allow for a higher base level of damage to come from it(due to it being based on a CD). If it’s designed so you could always spread it to nearby enemies, that means it will have to be tuned down damage-wise. The same would happen with Serpent Spread.
Currently, Serpent Spread + whatever you talent into would be your main source of damage for AoE-situations and then you would also have the option through the major CD to push out a lot more AoE-damage temporarily.
Note that the concept is designed with the focus being only on the spec itself, in the style of the old RSV.
Any baseline class-wide abilities etc. aren’t mentioned there as they aren’t exclusive to the intended spec.
Note that Tranq Shot will be returning in Shadowlands, so we get that anyway.
MSV was there in Legion.
The changes done to it going into BfA weren’t exactly on the lower end of the scale.
Not to mention the changes going into Legion from WoD…
And yes, the specific code for former RSV-related elements is most likely still available to them.
As for the addition of that new spec. It’s more than doable and even so if they were to also work on other classes/specs.
It’s a matter of evaluating whether it’s worth the time or not. This I can’t comment on from a dev perspective. We don’t know their thoughts on this.
He’s been saying that for months now. And yet he keeps returning to say the same thing over and over to the same posters…
Personally I don’t pay any attention to this argument. Blizzard could say “It’s not worth our time” about literally anything if they just don’t want to do it because it doesn’t align with their ‘vision’, but that wouldn’t change anything about how beneficial to the game the change would actually be.
If splitting Feral into Feral and Guardian was worth their time, then bringing back SV as a fourth spec would be worth their time.
I would agree.
Ofc designing a new spec for a class would take time and resources. I have no doubt they could do it though if they finally decide that it should be done.
They have previously mentioned being reluctant towards the idea of 4th spec-options for classes, despite having given one to druids in the past.
Honestly, if the reason they aren’t doing this for hunters is “just because”, I would strongly urge them to reconsider.
Such additions should always be considered where it makes sense for a class. Where a part of the class fantasy is missing(due to being previously removed for X reason).
It should be based on the concept, whether it can bring something new to the class. New strengths, weaknesses, a new(or old) theme/fantasy.
I don’t feel like a part of the class fantasy is missing. Am I opposed to more options, no I’m not. But this is just an opinion. Fact is Blizzard made the choice a while back to change and remove the spec, for whatever reason I don’t know. I’m sure there is much more that goes on behind the scenes that we don’t know about.
Perhaps this has been brought up to the class design teams many times, and it gets voted down. The real question is, why did they ever remove RSV in favor of MSV? (this is not me begging for RSV back, I could care less if it returns, or doesn’t). I’m just genuinely curious.
Depends on how you look at it.
We used to have a spec dedicated to the focus on augmented shots(enhanced ammunition/arrows) as well as enhanced traps.
It focused mainly on a playstyle that involved DoTs.
A fantasy/niche quite distinct from the themes of both BM and MM at the time.
Where is that niche/fantasy now?
They excused it by saying that they felt RSV was too similar to MM.
That they were essentially the same.
“just with more traps, or different arrows”.
Ironic since the specs did not actually share any particularly important abilities in WoD.
And especially ironic considering their change in design philosophies going forward. I mean, even IF the specs were too similar, it was all going to be fixed anyway, going into Legion with the increased focus on Spec Identities.
So…why didn’t they do to RSV what they did to all other specs at the time?
I mean I definitely remember playing RSV at the end of MOP in pvp, but don’t remember too much after. I gave up PvP on my hunter (arenas) since it didn’t fit well with my friends characters. So I never really knew why they gave up on the spec.
No matter what they do, I just wish hunters were represented more in the arena. It’s sad what has become of us…
A lot of it isn’t the class but rather that the class that is meant to be free range is put in a little box. If they LOS you are forced to go in closer because of the box. I tried arena again recently and it is infuriating lol… but, you know, back in the day we really were PvE kings esp in raids. Not bad now but def could be much better. F’n druids get everything in this game tho! Grr!
I’m a strong advocate for fight for what you want. With enjoying MSV quite a bit, I do understand the plight of those who want RSV back. It was simply… fun. Unique in it’s design, it struck a style of play that’s not mimic’d elsewhere.
I’d say the same thing goes with MSV though. The kiting while dpsing in burst windows is a pretty unique playstyle that’s also extremely fun.
Survival as a spec is tuned to crap and needs a little better design because taking a rogue over a survival hunter in almost every situation is more desirable, which shouldn’t be the case. We’ve been fighting over MSV or RSV so much when we really just need hunter’s to be designed well in general. It shouldn’t be a big demand since every class has it’s moment to really shine.
I do think it’s because they are unsure the role that Hunter plays as a class. Are we offenders or defenders? Do we fill the void of the ranged archer/gunman out in the open, or do we hunt our enemy/kill with stealth and elusiveness?
Like a druid that fits many roles I think they’re designing hunters without true direction without being able to completely fit class fantasy. While a druid can just shapeshift to fit their desired role. Each hunter spec is so unique, has such a different design, and class fantasy is vastly contrasting that as a class our design is spread too thin. There is no central core principle like shapeshifting or even just being a caster or melee mongoloid.
We should demand more direction of what a Hunter is.
nobody has to stand up for them. wow is more than just a game to a lot of people. and a lot of people played survival hunter mop>wod including me. survival hunter was the apex of perfection when it came to class/specs. in the past 15-16 years there was not a class or spec that came close to ranged survival when it came to fun and rotation. it should of been held up on a pedestal and used in every blizzard meeting for all the devs to work off of for other class / spec designs. polished cant even described how perfect it was. it didnt even have 1 single flaw. and then…
instead of learning from it and making other classes / specs equally fun to move some of the player base around to get the masses away from survival hunter they destroyed it. obliterated it to nothingness.
i dont know how many people are in the same boat as me but i have been playing since vanilla (see: achievements) but more importantly i have been playing hunter since wrath (marksman) and then survival in mop all the way up until legion. then in my achievements and activity you will see an almost 3 years hiatus when i quit due to it going melee and nothing else to fill the void. now i just got back a few months ago to bang the drum hoping they will revert it back to ranged or bring it back as a 4th spec to the way it was in mop/wod.
bm is the go to spec but bm is just bad so bad. so unsatisfying. so boring. you pets gets to have all the interactive fun and deal the damage while you just bang your keyboad. hell you dont even have a focus builder even that is passive via barbed shot. blahhhhh i despise melee survival and would never play it but i put bm even below it.
please for all that is good fix mm and bring back ranged survival. im not here asking for you to take melee survival away from people that do actually love it BECAUSE I WOULD HATE FOR THEM TO EXPERIENCE WHAT WE, WHO LOVED RANGED SURVIVAL HAD DONE TO US. but at least make a 4th spec just copy paste survival hunter from mop even wod to shadowlands.
p.s. please stop making bm the go to spec for raiding. mm has feelings to.
Nope. The current iteration makes it different from the other specs, which makes it seem like there’s a point to it. I get that there’s a push for class identity over specs (which is good), but each one should still feel like there’s a gameplay impact for choosing it. Moreover, as a melee/pet spec it’s one of two options in the entire game (the other being deathknight), so I don’t see the value in abandoning it.
I always thought of it rsv was so much fun the reason they changed it to get fewer people to play it xD. Its like all they want to play is rsv we got to make it less fun or different style completely lol. Im just being silly but i can actually see a spec getting wrecked to get people to stop playing it.
That is an unhealthy level of attachment for a video game.
Was that comment really necessary?
I actually personally quite like the melee aspect of the survival hunter; it’s unique and deviates clearly from beast mastery and marksmanship, making it a fresh experience. Now, I am not a survival main and honestly barely play my survival hunter, so my opinion can’t carry much weight as I am inexperienced, but nevertheless, I enjoy it.
Happy? And yes, it is necessary. If something happens in your life, and it’s been 4 plus years since said thing happened, and you’re actually still this mad about it, it is an unhealthy level of obsession. What is worse, said thing is a video game.
I’ve been playing since classic as well. I’ve had several specs changed drastically, including SV. However, at the end of the day it’s still just a video game and just a hobby. Again, if you’re literally mad four years later about a video game changing, it’s not good.
You mean like the ranged weapon?
You know, the icon of hunter class. Those weapons that are exclusive to hunters. The reason so many hunter abilities end in the word shot.
Sounds pretty central to me.
Lemme guess. You also can’t tell the difference between Affliction and Destro lock?
Yes, SV is so unique that it stole parts of BM’s identity. Not to mention it’s a melee spec in a ranged class with barely any melee attacks.
What’s the point of MSV again?
They should have just made a new class then, instead of deleting a spec that had existed in the game since Vanilla.
Not as unhealthy as your attachment to trolling the WoW forums.
So playing a video game for 15 years straight isn’t an unhealthy attachment to a video game, but having a strong opinion about the content of that same video is an unhealthy attachment to a video game?
If it is ‘just a video game’, then why do you constantly patrol the forums waiting to pounce on any comment that gives feedback about a particular aspect of that video game? If we have an unhealthy obsession with the video game, then you have an unhealthy obsession with us and our unhealthy obsession.
Ranged weapon. Pet. Those were the core principles to Hunters, but Blizzard has undermined these things by making the pet optional in MM and removing the ranged weapon from SV.
It’s like if they made cat form optional in Feral, and the Druid could just whack the enemy around with their staff, or just straight up removed all shapeshifting forms from Balance. Heck, ranged weapon plus pet was more core to the Hunter class than shapeshifting was to Druids.
