Should SV go back to range?

Man, Blizzard had abandon SV hunters and this is more than clear with the changes for Shadowlands. They’ll just going to increase damage in talents that nobody uses. Who else thinks that SV should go back to range?

Been playing survival nonstop since I started the game at the end of wrath. I have experienced both ranged and melee iterations of the spec and can honestly say that I enjoy the melee iteration way more than I ever did the ranged iteration. Unpopular opinion in these echo chambers, I know, but someone has to stand up for Blizzard’s design choices for the spec.

Personally I think numbers tuning is all that’s necessary. That way people can play different builds without being majorly penalized for their choices. Don’t like Mongoose bite? Tip of the Spear is there for you, and so on and so forth.

Seriously, it’s been nearly 4 years since the Warlords prepatch and the melee switch. It’s time to move on and cease the beating the dead horse.

No, actually, no one has to because they are terrible choices. Blizzard doesn’t need any more forum warriors defending them.

SV is amazing as a hybrid ranged / melee. No need to revert to an old spec that is no longer valid.

Yep, I’d say thats the problem SV has right now.

It would be redundant in many players and Blizzard’s eyes for people to be liking MSV, just to revert to RSV. The best solution is to add a 4th spec to either play the role of RSV and give theme/entertainment in the direction of variety.

Aren’t opinions great? Using phrases like “forum warriors” or “terrible choices” does very little to actually give your opinion any creedence, however. So I suggest toning down the rhetoric.

There are those that like the spec as it is and there are those that don’t. Both are equally valid opinions. But saying that you want ranged survival back is a conversation that will go nowhere as Blizzard has made it very clear that there will not be any major spec reworks come Shadowlands.

So shall we have a worthwhile debate or are you intent on throwing ad hominem accusations against those who feel differently than you?

I like SV being melee. They were a mix of melee/range back in the old days, it makes them unique and stood out, instead of just being another range dps. SV and Outlaw Rogues are probably the best class choice for a range/melee hybrid.

I’m hoping SV would get a talent similar to Lone Wolf and Warlock’s Grimoire of Sacrifice, where you dismiss your pet but gains its main ability and passive effect (depending on the pet type), similar to how a Lone Ranger survives nature by imitating wild lives. Pets should be an option for Marks and SV alike.

I agree that a 4th spec would be the perfect middle of the road compromise for the divide in the survival player base. Put the debate to rest for good!

If rsv came back with all its abilities i would drop shaman in sec and every other class would be meaningless. All that i will play is rsv, but chances of that happening is 0.0004%, cause something alot of players want.

why not make 4th spec like old range SV ?

Realistically speaking, there are what? 12 classes in the game? And only one of them has 4 specs after 16 years. So to expect that a 4th hunter spec is a reasonable ask seems just a little farfetched to me.
Could be wrong here…

But all aspects of the old survival are present in the marks talent tree sans Black Arrow. You got Serpent Sting, Explosive Shot (though different functionality), lock n load, Arcane Shot (come SL), Steady Shot… it’s all there really. You just have to make those choices. Is it different? Sure. But every class has changed over the years and hunters are no different. You just have to be a little bit flexible.

As someone who’s been playing Hunter since BC, I would kill to get the ranged survival back, even as a 4th spec. I loved the Black Arrow/Explosive Shot/Serpent Sting play style from the end of MoP, it felt so satisfying. Ranged Survival is the one thing that would convince me to not switch back to my Paladin as my main in Shadowlands. While I don’t hate the current BM or MM, they’re both relatively boring to play in the long run.

No need to kill melee survival off. Add a 4th spec, name melee hunter something like Huntsman, and the rSurv Survival. I’d be so happy to main Hunter in Shadowlands if this happened, even if rSurv wouldn’t be the best spec.

Because its already being added (parts of it) to current MM spec.
Because it wouldnt be the same, they’d have to create a new one. The old spec does not fit current WoW.
Before adding any new spec, DH still missing one.
No major change coming to SL, so forget about it.

I think it should stay melee, give the spec some variety and options… marks and bm are enough for ranged

Me, I think Blizz should should bring back ranged SV. And either rename MSV as a 4th spec or move it to another class (I hear Demon Hunter is short a spec…)

Eh, prefer way more as melee, kinda fits one of my favorite fantasies when it comes to RPGs.

But I wouldn’t mind it coming back as a 4th spec for those that enjoyed it.

I played a little SV in Vanilla and TBC. I honestly think this would be a great opportunity in SHadowlands to make a proper hybrid spec (both ranged and melee).

I would love it if they would just add a 4th spec for RSV, not because i miss it, but just so everyone would finally be happy… Then we can just have threads about how all hunter specs are under performing or something else at least.
