Should I buy a Nintendo switch?

Short answer, Yes. Long answer, Yes, Why are you asking this on a World of Warcraft Forum? I mean its the General Forum Section but still was a bit odd to see this.

Get it! Totally worth it. Breath of the Wild alone is amazing.

I personally say no unless you enjoy playing the games thwy offer. Ive had mine for years that been collecting dust so i gave it to my gf. We play in here and there but the games we play get boring fast at least to us. We got like mario kart, mario party, super smash bros, etcā€¦ im more of a pc gamer in general thus why but she doesnt play all that much. I used to be a pokemon fan but eveb that gets boring for me.

No donā€™t buy it

Depends on your age. Iā€™m in my 30ā€™s, bought one when they first came out like within the first few months. I never enjoyed it. Every game I try I get bored of really quick. Gave the Switch to my son and heā€™s had far, far more use out of it then I ever would.

I personally love my PS5. The games are just more age appropriate for me and it actually does other things like Netflix, Disney+, Tubi etc. My Nintendo Switch would have maybe have been used more if it did stream services, but since it didnā€™t I saw it as a useless brick.

Not a bad investment.

One note: I have both a full-sized Switch and a Switch Lite. Sometimes I feel like itā€™s preferable to play on the full-sized.

Iā€™ve decided only to use the Lite when Iā€™m on the go. The screen is bigger and itā€™s nice to just put the screen portion in a charging base (I have a cheap one that I bought for my Lite) and use the controller that comes with the full-sized unit. The original screen is slightly bigger so itā€™s a bit easier to see things if you donā€™t have it hooked to a TV.

Also, you can switch your save files for each game back and forth, but you overwrite anything on the target system when you do this. This makes it so you either have to have a save on both systems and you canā€™t switch them, or you have one save file that you switch back and forth.

Strong disagree here, Iā€™m 48 and I love mine. I play computer games more, but itā€™s nice to have at my bedside when I canā€™t sleep or when Iā€™m out somewhere and have to wait around for something.

I havenā€™t played mine in a hot minute, but I think they are worth it. A lot of the remasters/ports from other games are really nice. But I initially bought it for Pokemon, and only Pokemon. That didnā€™t last long.

Yes, switch is arguably the best out of ps5/xbox/switch.

Same and same, then I found a whole bunch of other games and now I rarely touch Pokemon.

Yeah, this is kinda where Iā€™m sitting. With the Switch using hardware from a midrange 2014 Android phone (almost a decade old now!), itā€™s starting to approach Texas Instruments calculators in terms of its power:price ratio. Not that power is the only important thing in a console, but thereā€™s clearly not $300 worth of hardware there lol. The $400 Steam Deck or just about any $300-$400 computer out there are multiple times more powerful.

If I were to buy any Nintendo console itā€™d be at the consoleā€™s introduction, when its price makes the most sense.

If you do, get the OLED version, its such a drastic colour boost over the basic one~

:dizzy: :rabbit:

I did a lot of shiny egg hatching in Sw/Shā€¦ it burned me out by the time the Pearl/Diamond remake came around. I never played the originals so I played them a bit but I definitely got Pokemon burn out. And nowā€¦ they are coming out with MORE Pokemon games. I just cannot keep up! I was working on my Pokemon Home living Dex but am just missing some special Mythical Pokemon. I can never keep up with their time-limited eventsā€¦ oh well.

I like the Bioshock and Borderlands ports, and was enjoying Animal Crossing during quarantine. There are a few ā€œfreeā€ games I enjoyed on there as well. I havenā€™t played my Switch in months thoughā€¦ been busy with WoW, I guess, and mostly real life.

But I just cannot recommend the Switch enough.

Buy the old one and jailbreak it

How available are the jailbreakable ones? I imagine that theyā€™d make killer retro game machines running some flavor of linux.

They are some of the original release switches. You can Google a guide on it and itā€™ll tell you which model numbers allow it.

Will definitely have to buy used, but yeah I play all the retro games on it. Have an almost endless library. You can also get all the new games, but youā€™ll never be able to play online if you go that route.

Theyā€™ll make a new one soon so no.
Plus Nintendo really lags behind the competition.

Wait for the Switch to go on sale if you REALLY want it.

I hope it not only stays on all fours but keeps to the grass type tradition of evolving into an extinct animal species . . . grass smilodon would be sweet but would also content with my precious grass borb son.

I bought mine with zeldaā€¦ Beat zelda then sold it all. lol, I do wish I kept it to play other games tho. Iā€™ll get another one one day.

Only if youā€™re interested in the exclusive titles. I own one for:

  • Mario series
  • Zelda series
  • Xenoblade series
  • Bayonetta series
  • Fire Emblem series
  • Other JRPGs that Playstation donā€™t have

If thereā€™s some games you really want to play, go for it. Although I think thereā€™s no hype with Switch anymore. Mine collects dust.
