Should a player be suspended for placing (mage) portals in LFR?

I love your spirit!

Sounds like those in the LFR should be banned for deciding to go on a stupid witch hunt

Actually, creating a portal is one of the most social things a Mage does.

I’d like to point out you are correct. When you’re farting around, waiting for the warlock to start the channel, realize they are being asked for the closet, or (and my personal favorite) the warlock speaks little to no English and you have to look up another language to ask for a closet, ect

During such down time, you have a 90% chance a mage will just lazily throw out a portal. With the warlock in the group, you still get summoned back.

If you get upset because you clicked a portal - an action that you made - and got going off somewhere else, I suggest therapy.

My to you, Reinedemorte, you appear to have your stuff together and can appreciate a laugh.

LOL yes this is totally trolling.

Ive seen it a few times, not just LFR.

its upto the players to just punish / kick the troll, its no different from a priest gripping someone off a edge, a pally using bop on a tank, evoker flying someone away / off a edge.

unless you got video evidence and since blizz cant tell intentions if blizz started banning people that do this nothing would stop simps from just mass reporting someone if told to do so.

Or people could just not be such sensitive little weiners

But. But main character syndrome! They are being made to look silly to other players by them not paying enough attention!

Seriously, the only guy in the OP’s story that might or should have been kicked was the moron that pulled the boss before everyone got summoned back, which wastes actual time. I’d still laugh though.

When I’ll eventually quit WoW one day, this will be my last in-game action.

No, they should not. They are simply using a piece of their legitimate toolset given to them by Blizzard. If the spell is not an exploit, leave it alone and let it continue to be a tool of natural selection. If the spell is an exploit, remove the spell. And then get ready for your toolset to be broken as we find ways to call it an exploit as well.

It really shows that Blizzard needs to change how those portals work. At least label the portal with the players name and put something in your log about who’s portal you used.

I think in a perfect world the person would get a warning gbut it’s hard to do. So I think Blizzard needs to make it really hard to do that without people knowing
and maybe give a double warning or something. Portals are not used a million times a week so two clicks when it isn’t your own portal would solve a lot.

I just think it’s hilarious people are still falling for the Portal Roulette from 20 years ago. Mages used to pile on top of each other after raids and “open a portal to insert major hub of the expansion” and you’d have 1 do the right portal while others would send people to just the most random other places.

And it was funny 100% of the time when people weren’t paying attention.

Some of ya’ll are too sensitive today.

There’s no need for any of that. Here’s the fix. Come closer, it’s a secret technique of Elune. Right here, yeah.

Pay attention.

When you mouse over the portal, a text box shows up on the base UI. On yellow or white text, it tells you where the portal is going. In fact, the portal itself usually has an image of where you’re going after you click.

Don’t wanna take the chance? You have 2-3 Hearthstones. Base Hearthstone, Garrison Hearth, and Legion Dalaran Hearth. 2 of em being toys.

There is no need to do any of that. Mages have portals in their kits. It’d be easier just to remove portals altogether, rather than the idea you cooked up. It won’t do any good but last the server with more data to keep track of.

My friends don’t use mine period because I would crater dump people all the time.
Especially stacking insert current capital and place a crater right over the top so visually it’s insert current capital, but it’s death.

Hey at least I slow fall everyone before :joy:

Ngl I can’t believe the amount of people supporting this as being actionable.
YOU CLICKED THE THING :joy:

Some of us are sneaky little wikkets :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
You CAN hide the name of the portal with a sneaky overlay cast. But it still flickers with both portals.
If you quickly just click on it, yea it’ll get you every time. A fraction of a second pause to actually look at the portal
 yea you’ll notice lol.

Ah yes the standard blame the victim idea. Come on. People do this at time when a lot is going on and it is very possible to misclick. Hell it is literally why people do it.

A few simple things to protect players from people being troublemakers is not unreasonable. Stop defending bad actors because you think people should have perfect attention spans while playing a game.

That is hyperbolic and ridiculous. I say add something so I know who made the portal and your reaction is to totally remove portals? How is that sane? Oh no how will the servers survive a portal that is labeled with a persons name! How will the logs handle the crazy workload of saying who made the portal you just clicked on
HOW WILL IT SURVIVE. come on.

How about we just make it harder to grief people? What a thought!

How about we require an IQ test before enabling purchase of the game?

Oh, nevermind. That would eliminate 75% of the payers and 95% of the dev team.

Tell me how a mage forces you to click the portal. You make the choice. You have multiple choices. This isn’t victim blaming. Are you saying that you must click the portal?

If you answer those two questions honestly, I’ll engage further.

I’ll also need you to tell me the percent of times you got flung to a destination not requested by a mage. Again, I’ll wait.

Why?

I’d wager money that 90-95% of the time, you get sent where you requested. In fact, that goes for everyone. Now, if you trust an unsolicited portal, you have the option to click it. OPTION.

No one is pointing a gun at your head and saying click the portal. Your argument is poorly thought out. 95% of the time, labeling the portal, or some other wonky nothing to tell you who made the portal will be unused data. Pointlessly logged. Held for who knows how long. The game already has to do 20-30 calculations on one button press (peehaps an exaggeration depending on your class, spec, talent choices, tier pieces, and trinkets).

And now you want to further add pointless data.

i open a portal to wrath dal on my paladin using jaina’s locket and so many people fall for it even when theres no mage in the group

That’s hilarious. I’d use the time to do an ICC run or check Wintergrasp.

Maybe even do a Naxx run for kicks. Or just Hearth. So many options!

See, I’m not immune to the scam. I just don’t engage with it unless i feel like it. Also I’ll let someone else port first and see where they end up. I’ve fallen for the trick like three times lol.
