Should a CM be snarky on twitter?

Do you mean their personal twitter or do you mean their work twitter. If their work twitter, then no they should act professionally. If it’s their personal twitter, they can act however they want in my view.

So… never.

Which in the long run isn’t going to help the game, the players, or themselves. It will only serve to have everyone’s relationship breakdown further. If anyone should be taking the high road in all this in order to bring the gaming community together it should be the CM’s.

except you cant. Even if its personal it links back to his job, he has customers that follow him and co workers. Thats how companies are these days. Personal social media accounts mean nothing in regards to privacy

Most companies, including blizzard and many others (including the one I work for) differentiate personal accounts and acting as an agent of the organization. You are generally free to have opinions, and express them (within reason).

Lore’s personal twitter has never gone so far that I think it reflects poorly on his employer (which is where the line is generally drawn). Having an opinion different from many players, and being slightly snarky about it (in relation to bans) doesn’t cross that line imo.

He did this himself. He identifies himself on his twitter as an employee of blizzard. It wasn’t until he started getting heat for his comments that he tried to deflect the comments.

He is one of the faces of World of Warcraft and as such, he should be acting in a professional manner and he should not be alienating his consumer base. I have seen people fired for less when using social media in such a manner.

It does when he goes after paying customers. This is not the first time he has been controversial. Almost every company makes you sign a Social Media Acceptance form. You can be discaplined for anything you put on your personal page even if it does not pertain to the company if the company percieves it as harming their brand or business. Teachers can be fired for showing pictures of them drinking at a party , Government contractors can fire you if you get too political etc etc… As a customer Service Manager, he should be held to a higher standard.

Blizzard and ATVI are in a bad spot now with the stock being very low. Investors and the BOD are not too keen on having a employee bring negative attention to the company

HE has also stated that His personal Twitter account will be used in a official capacity for blizzard.

Thinking players should have known better and shouldn’t be surprised when they are banned isn’t going after paying customers. Most companies have social media terms, but if he’s violated them (we don’t even know what the contents of the terms are at blizzard) then that’s a problem for hr to resolve.

It is but in any Customer oriented business , a Cm or any employee just cant bad mouth the customers. No matter what . Even if the customer is in the wrong. You either shut up and not saying anything ( best option) or you create a anonymous page with no one from your work, no link to your job at all so you can vent

This is so true. He claims this is his personal twitter but then puts in the bio that he is a WoW Community Manager and works for Blizzard. Why would you even put this stuff on your personal twitter if you didn’t want people to ask you about Blizzard stuff, and you are not speaking on Blizzards behalf on this twitter.

If he didn’t have the line linking him to working at Blizzard probably would get less flack for stuff he says on his twitter.

There are a lot of things I think about the paying customers at my job. But I am smart enough not to say those things where they can hear or post it where they can read it. He knows the player base here and posting that did nothing but fan the flames of some people. Why even post something like that? What good did it do? Just looking at him he should be old enough to have some kind of self awareness.

Some employers social media policy requires you to identify yourself as an employee (to avoid the problem of being positive about your companies products without disclosing your affiliation) as well as your general role. I have no idea if this is the case with blizzard’s social media policy (or even if they have one).

Or be accountable like every other Adult Human Being on the planet that have to face the consequences their actions. He shouldn’t have a job.

New Lore tweet:

Unfortunately, he would be getting far less vitriol if the designers actually communicated openly with players (outside of Q&A’s where we can’t have a back-and-forth for clarity) and if players felt their concerns were heard, being fixed in the future with an acknowledgement that they messed up, etc.

The feedback culture on the WoW team is abysmal. It still shocks me that many of these features were shipped in their state at the launch of BfA. How in the world are these guys designers? Where was the foresight?

Lore is facing the brunt of that unrest, which is unfair to him. At the same time, as one of the few lines of communication we have, he doesn’t always handle things correctly (see the thread about Azerite a few months back). If you’re a good designer, you don’t always need the community to suggest fixes for your errors. Conversely, if Lore had been paying attention to the forums since launch, he would have seen plenty of Azerite threads with suggestions/thoughts. They’re supposed to be the professionals.

On the other hand, Lore shouldn’t be making these tweets honestly. Not if he’s really passionate about the game he works on. He seems sadly apathetic, disillusioned, and angry.

He is not passionate about this game or his Job and it shows. This latest tweet just tells people, he doesn’t really care about doing his job. In this case. Blizzard just needs to separate him now. I mean , he just basically said he is not doing his job . this is unprofessional. he obviously can not handles the job, or customer service. he is unhappy. time for him to find aother gig at this point

Yes, it’s always their fault, they’re always wrong and they never have to deal with insane stupidity on the part of people who quite often harass, insult and troll.

It’s a two way street.

Undoubtedly Blizzard has screwed up more than a fair deal this expansion but this victim complex is getting ridiculous.

Just the Blizzard culture it seems. Some aren’t part of it but others really can’t be asked to act the least bit mature… private twitter or not.

They did fire a lot of their community team for many of their games so I would not expect communication to get better. Communication its obviously its not one of their priorities.
