Should a CM be snarky on twitter?

Personal twitter?? yeah he can be whatever he wants

I love this victim outrage. The playerbase wants to constantly ridicule, mock, call for firings, of people non stop.

But if that same person ever dares to come close to being “snarky”? Well. Thats just uncalled for.

For everyone that complains about what was said, I want all your contact details so I can spam you at all hours of everyday and see how long it takes before you snap :stuck_out_tongue:

doesnt matter if its is personal twitter or not. He lists his job . Every big company makes employees sign social media awareness forms saying what you say on your private social media accounts can impact your job upto and including termination

You gotta look at it from their perspective

According to Bashiok (a ex community manager who quit to go work on League of Legends. He left on good terms) Blizzard devs are often under strict orders to not read the forums as it destroys their morale.

Essentially, we were so horrible we drove off the actual developers from reading the WoW forums so they hired community managers to serve as a filter between the devs and players.

Community mangers get turned into our punching bags and they have to filter out all our needlessly passive aggressive posts so they can send the actual useful constructive portion of the criticism to the devs

I imagine the job of being a verbal punching bag and having to filter angry posts day in day out for years on end starts to wear on you after awhile.

So I can’t really blame them. If I had their job I imagine I’d be snarky as well

If he cant handle his job with out going after the paying customers, he needs a new job. If he must vent on social media, then do like the rest of us and have a Alt account thats in no way shape or form linked to your job or your real name . This is not the first time he has been controversial on social media that can cause ATVI PR issues

I just don’t see him as being controversial. I just find it hilarious how people want a blank check to demean people. Its like they only go after targets that can’t fight back.

Its an interesting connection, imo. The bully atmosphere of the internet doesn’t deserve the rights people are pretending they should have.

Except the problem is, people have a habit of forgetting that “the players” means all of us, and I’m tired of hearing about how we never have anything “constructive” to say, despite the fact that I have written whole treatises on ways to improve the game, and done so respectfully.

If you’re just going to lump us all together when it suits you, don’t expect me to thank you for it.

And furthermore, I’m also sick and tired of hearing about “entitled gamers”, because the bottom line is that we ARE CUSTOMERS, and if you don’t like hearing complaints, I suggest you find a new line of work that doesn’t require you to interact with customers.

You want snark, you go to the Wendy’s Twitter. Our CMs are saints by comparison. Also Private Account is a Private Account for a reason. He is entitled to his own point of view the same as you.

And in advance since people didn’t learn it in school evidently…

No. You do not get to demand a person be fired from their job because they said something you disagreed with. No matter how many teachers told you in High School that it was acceptable, it’s not.

Doesn’t matter, its extremely inappropiate for a CM to be snarky to the playerbase. private or not his words still hold meaning and he is still affiliated with the company and the game. the CM in question has run his course with a lot of people.

They can be whatever they want. Just dont complain when people start doing the same thing. It only becomes a problem when it becomes a 1 way street. This CM doesnt seem to be able to handle the heat but he wants to try and play with fire. Seems like a really dumb idea for him, but what do I know.

If a few customers find it “offensive” then it is controversial and negatively impacts the business. This is simply how companies work in the age of social media . The fact that he says something like this shortly after a mass firing tells me he is either looking to get fired, or he is not very bright . I have been through mass firing in a few companies and the number 1 thing you do is shut up, put your head down and do not attract attention to your self.

I didn’t feel lumped with anyone. I knew exactly what he was talking about. Nothing in his tweet gave the impression that he was talking about everybody.

Are we really going to ignore the fact that there is a toxic feedback problem, and just pile on top of a CM because they had to gall to simply bring it up?

Not only that but ATVI is going through some bad times now. Odds are more firings are on the way as the stock is still dropping. This was a very poor decision to post that tweet . I have told my nephews and nieces that as soon as they enter the job market, delete your social media accounts or make one under a alias.

Well it’s his personal twitter, and his tweet was about EA laying off 300 people.

Though is tweet lacks context. I don’t think people understand lay offs like this are normal and happen everyday.

Acti-Blizz let go 800 or so employees, not just from WoW but from all their games, and most of those employees were support staff. So they could hire more developers, for more games, and faster updates = more $$$.

I never took to it myself, and it sounds like I really dodged a bullet. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

For many years now people have been held accountable for what they say on the internet by their employers. Whether it’s a personal or a company account is irrelevant.

Not saying you have to agree with that, because I don’t either, but it’s the truth.

“toxic” feeedback has been a thing since mankind started selling products for money. Hell there is a cuniform clay tablet from Sumeria that is a customer complaint and threatening to boycot the merchants other businesses . Video game companies right now, like EA and ATVi are getting the brunt of the negative feedback because they deserve it .

If there’s a “toxic feedback” problem, it isn’t my problem and I’m not going to be held accountable for the actions of strangers on Twitter.

I worked in the absolute worst type of “customer service” there is…as a dealer/supervisor in a casino. Add losing your rent money to free alcohol and tell me how you think I got treated 90% of the time.

I would have been immediately fired for this kind of thing, and don’t have much sympathy for people who can’t keep their mouth shut.

How about you all get over yourselves trying to tone police someone on the intermet.
