The authentic experience also had more then a handful of completely dead servers that they eventually had to merge and then they became dead again and that’s why we have what we have today.
lol gamebreaking. I don’t think you know what gamebreaking means because having sharding at the start for a week or two is the complete opposite of gamebreaking, it’s completely irrelevant to Classic’s long term. The people against sharding just want to experience a clusterduck of a launch for a few hours and those few hours you experience either sharding or no sharding isn’t going to matter in the mid or long term no matter how much you think it will.
Except the lead developers and CMs have on multiple occasions specifically addressed the concerns raised by the community on sharding on these forums. Our efforts might be in vain but at least we can say we tried if blizzard destroy classic by sharding world PvP, realm events etc. It’s naive to think that blizzard is not considering extending sharding beyond the starting zones - they’ve implemented sharding in retail for reasons that are just as relevant for classic.
The demo was either a lightning rod by design, or a low budget piece of trash that we can expect to see at launch. At this stage I’m starting to think it’s the latter, and blizzard isn’t going to throw a dime more than it needs to in order to milk the vanilla fan base. This approach undoubtedly includes sharding.
I really hope I’m wrong and blizzard are true to their word.

Why should those who want classic have to wait for sharding to be turned off?
Sharding is garbage.
Always has been, always will be.
Sharding is community-breaking. And in Classic that means game breaking.
Never said this. I said those who can’t tolerate sharding in the starting area should wait if they don’t want to deal with it.
Except as described by Blizzard it’s absolutely not community breaking in any way shape or form.
Except in one situation the people who actually want classic have to wait and in the other those who just want to check it out have to wait.
So those who don’t want sharding have to wait while the tourists get the game right away? Seems like a legit solution. Oh wait. No it doesn’t. If I’m opening a business do I want my target demographic to be coming in day one or day 15?
…
Ion said the exact opposite, and they recognize that.
Why are you making up an argument that isn’t even there? Please pay attention to what is actually happening and what is being suggested before you comment. Thanks.
He meant by how blizzard described their plan for it, it doesn’t break up communities. Ion was talking about how damaging it is later down the road and needs to be used in an extremely limited way early on.
It is literally 3 hours of sharding if you level quickly and then it’s over. Game breaking? Please
Except we’ve already seen people who think everything up to basically duskwood should be sharded
Sharding splits up players.
Community happens when players interact.
Part of interactions happen with players you see in game.
Since sharding reduces the number of players I see it reduces interactions.
Thus it definitely hinders community
What does that have to do with the price of beans? That’s not what blizzards plan is and that’s not what the people were saying that you have been replying to.
These are the facts. Blizzards plan for sharding is time limited and limited to starting areas. Sharding is going to be used specifically to combat the amount of people at launch so populations stay healthy once the tourists leave. If sharding in this time/level frame is so unacceptable to someone all they have to do is wait and it’s over.
No one is saying tourists should get to play first. No one is saying this is so tourists have an easier time leveling.
Get with the program.
Except that literally means those who actively want classic have to wait. Seems stupid that your target demographic has to wait while your non target demographic gets day 1 access.
For a time limited and a level limited way. 3 hours worth of leveling. And then all is normal. Thus community is restored.
It is absolutely community breaking. Look, the community starts to form the second the game launches. Not after some arbitrary level, zone, or time commitment that may or may not be affected by the whims of some Activision exec or the insistence of entitled players who put convenience above authenticity and community.
So you’re saying everyone who wants classic simply can’t stand 10 levels of sharding? I have wanted classic for years now and I can deal with a little sharding as long as it ends when they say it ends.
No one said the ones who want sharding NEED to wait. We are saying if you simply can not stand it at all then that is your solution.
