Sharding/Cross-realm is not an alternative. In my opinion it has no place in any mmo.

Lol are you really going to make me explain all of classic to you or can you at least pick up some slack and act like you have been here for longer than a week?
WoW classic is going to be free to download. No cost. No hassle. So if I plan to play classic WoW day one, I will have it downloaded beforehand because it’s FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
The original vanilla, TBC, and Wrath did NOT work like this. Do you understand?
That’s why this is different because everybody almost WILL be logging in at the exact same time. And not just everybody who will stay in classic, but also some of the millions of people (retail) who happened to get this for 100% FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

It did… because it was new and different experience. Classic is not that, nor should you replicate it’s disasters of launch day because “Well vanilla made it lol”.

Hows is TBC launch different than classic? Because unlike TBC LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PERSON IS SUBJECTED TO THE STARTING AREA. Do you understand what this means? When TBC launched, yeah, a lot of people were all in the same area. NOT EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON.
You really need to work on understanding classic instead of copy pasting your stupid martini glass so maybe you can contribute here once in a while.
No… no I’m not lol. This is how every single game today launches. Everybody today gets the game downloaded beforehand and then when it’s ready you click GO. So whatever capacity they have at the start will be met.
This isn’t speculation, this is literally what has happened in every big release for the last 8 years or so.
We can only hope. If we get the numbers you guys hope we will, it most definitely WILL be needed.
Needed or not, it will have no place in classic.

technically, not everyone will be on the same page. some will not have it downloaded till after its already started. though this scenario will be rarer, it will happen. i often turn off all things that run in the background besides anti-virus/anti-spyware.
some will not even know about it because real life has interfered with leisure time. examples are people who have really hard jobs or dangerous jobs. but when they do get leisure, they might discover they can download vanilla classic, but by then, the game will already be in progress.
some will be too ill or in recovery from sickness, injury, child birth, etc, and may not be in any shape to turn on their computer much less play classic, but will later when the game is already in progress.
some will have other things going that take precedent such as gaming on a different game series that demands their attention, getting married or divorced, on a cruise, on vacation in the alps (lol), a new job, finals for graduation, etc.
ya know real life. (trademark, copyright)
however, these are the exception not the rule.
