Not a thing.
Not a thing at all sadly.
The fact that this thread is from 2019 says something. As a druid and priest healer, I’d take a not brain dead shaman tank over any other tank.
I was ignorant enough to think that shamans can’t tank until I met shamans that could tank.
Go for it!
Guild has a shaman tank… he tanks in AQ40 up to now… so yes you can… and he tanked Neff the last 30% so and chromm shoutout @Kalanti
Sure thing lvl20.
He only started getting some kills in AQ40 as of December 23, in Phase 6, and no fight has him Tanking anything. There are Mages and Hunters with more uptime on boss or boss add threat than him. At best he gets 5-6 sec of aggro on a Sartura add until a Warrior taunts off of him.
Are you talking about this?

Where Kobi lost aggro during Time Lapse and Kalanti was targeted for all of 4-5 seconds? The same fight where a DPS Warrior and Warlock died because Kalanti couldn’t actually hold despite hiding during Time Lapse? /giggle
Or this Nef pull where you didn’t actually kill him? And he died to 6.7k damage? With access to Phase 6 gear for a Phase 3 encounter?

Kinda proving the point that a Shaman can’t actually Tank anything.
Good players can make anything work.
That is still not indicitive that a shaman is a good tank or a tanking class.
I’ve seen a warlock tank UBRS before with his twin emps gear. A warlock is not a tanking class, but the player was able to fill the tanking roll.
On that note, I routinely do scholomance with 5 dps and no healers, because you can. You don’t need a proper tank outside actual raids.
For an instance maybe, sure. But then, you don’t even really need a tank for instances.
When people talk about viability of tanks, they are generally talking about end-game raiding.
Paladins are a good example. They are excellent instance tanks while leveling, but they are not well-suited for end-game raid tanking.
At that level, shamans can tank fine
I mean that’s the whole caveat people miss: being able to massively outgear something doesn’t retroactively make that class a viable X at all times. They’ll accept that a Priest going back to Holy Nova spam Scarlet Monastery doesn’t make Priests viable AoE DPS or Tanks, but somehow going from 5man gear to AQ40+ gear does?
Entirely my point
Hunter and Warlock pets are tanks at that level, quite good ones too.
Yeah, and just having some mages is fine as well
LOL Shaman wearing Malistar and Dragonblood cape finally gets to kind-of Tank MC…
Fun fact about ol’ Reft since he’s on my server: the one time he tried Tanking BWL he died on every boss he actually tried to hold aggro with the sole exception of Razorgore.

Oh and he never progressed beyond BWL.
That’s tragic. I wonder if anything would have changed if he’d obtained some T2 and T2.5 pieces.
Nope. Because shamans can’t tank
a warlock could “tank” ony, it hits like a wet noodle. Your “vael and brood” shaman tank video is actually just boordlord, guy doesn’t even tank vael. I took a look at the fight itself, he only engages broodlord twice. The first time it literally made him oom to hold threat on brood for what, 20 seconds? And the second time the boss switched on him he died in about 5 seconds.
Wow, what a great tank.
Not particularly, no.
Shaman can get beat on in MC and Ony without too much issue because none of these fights hit anyone particularly hard and they’re tuned around Warriors having a smattering of 5man gear and questing pieces. Our base health pools are enough to weather a hit or two, hence why all the aggro-drop mobs don’t just one-shot anyone. So at Tier 1, Shaman can survive, but they really can’t hold aggro.
Enter Tier 2 and Shaman fall flat on their faces. They gain next to nothing in terms of EH and so they’re still really squishy, while Warriors and Druids are now rocking a variety of epics and can just soak it all. Vael, Broodlord, the Drakes, and Chrom all absolutely wreck Shaman unless the Shaman gets ludicrously lucky. Even in full T2, Shaman lack the EH at this tier. Even in full Warlord gear, Shaman lack the EH at this tier.
Tier 2.5 gives Shaman a bit of reprieve because many of the bosses are not Tank checks, but rather raid-mechanic checks. Nevertheless, threat continues to be a staggering issue and the few burst check bosses that do exist just flatten Shaman. Lord Kri last, Sartura’s WW, Twins, and Ouro just wreck. T2.5 doesn’t really improve the survivability much but at least Shaman begin to get kinda close to what a dungeon only geared Druid can manage.
Tier 3 is obviously beyond this still… so…
