Yes, I’ve seen your contributions for a few class specializations. Some are (way) more focused on (high) damage than anything, which may explain why a few readers for Ret liked some of the ideas.
Some input? Maybe drop the whole “I did all of this during a meal” stuff. It’s obviously false, and comes across way more pretentious than helpful or passionate. This had an immediate negative impact on my reading, and it appears to have come through to others in your Shaman entry. Even if you have something interesting in there, your approach there (and here) kind of nuked anything more you have to say.
I won’t critique any further, but kudos on the contributions.
I made a pretty interesting elemental build with strong damage and really solid off heals I think might be pretty strong in M+ and raiding.
May not be flashy, but it looks pretty strong. Don’t know what type of fights we’re going to have yet to mention things like poison totem. There may be a fight or two where it’s an auto pick.
Dang. I was already struggling to find shaman fun to play and then they do this??? Just delete the class already. Blizz just doesn’t know how to make a shaman class.
Had to post in the dk forums but may as well put this here too.
If the goal was to translate what we have today into the new trees so we have a solid foundation to move forward with the trees are successful. After the trees achieved that, we roll in a few fun abilities from covenants, legendaries, Azeroth powers, etc where it makes sense. nothing crazy, maybe 2-3 per spec so we can keep up with the changes and balance. If we did that the trees are successful. We have a point allocation budget so let’s tweak a few numbers down or up and put some filler talents in to smooth out the edges. Okay we did that the trees are successful.
The goal was never stated to be a complete overhaul and rebalance of our playstyle or kits. You’re kidding yourself if you think that was the intent.
I’m glad we’re keeping a familiar place. Frost and blood dk feel like they keep a bunch of what they have today around for tomorrow, and we’re doing fine in rankings in most content. Seems like shaman is keeping some flavor around for tomorrow.
To be fair, Rogues, while strong in PvP and strong in M+, have lacked a proper identity in raid after the removal of smoke-bomb. The new tools they bring will help them justify their raid-spot without being too strong in M+ or PvP.
I hope the shaman class tree could get better options then utilty for dps specs like enhancement. Chain Harvest is sorely missed. Could be an option for the necrolord talent or the raid converting damage to healing/ healing to damage etc.
Vesper totem would also be a nice other option then Ancestral Guidance.
Also It feels bad that totems only effect party members instead of the raid. It makes the totems feel alot more wasteful as talents. Them being on the class tree and all… would be nice for them to work on the raid.
Also want to point out the shaman tree looks the least finished. For example the elemental tree has Stormkeeper in 2 separate spots.
I also don’t understand Flash of Lightning. Reduces the CD on your nature spells by 1 second. The heck is that supposed to do? Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning or Healing Wave don’t have CDs. Earth Shock and Earthquake are based on maelstrom and don’t have CDs. Wtf CD is it reducing?
*Thinking about it… would this reduce Nature’s Swiftness? That might make it worth it alone tbh. Or Wind Shear and Thunderstorm. Hmm.
Yeah definitely going to enjoy havign more survivability.
Not sure why Primal Wave is in there. Always thought it was very meh. Would rather have Fae Transfusion, specially if it lowests the cast time of Feral Spirits. Would make having a spirits build fun again for another expansion. Plus the controlled healing aspect is very useful at time.
Do wish we also got Soul Shape. Maybe switch it out with Forceful Winds. Losing one of the primer and almost iconic abilities from SL is going to just suck. It thematically fits too.
Did you even look at the elemental tree? It looks amazing… some stuff needs to be shuffled and connections added and hopefully some of the capstones changed but overall it looks sick.
New fire build is going to be insane for raid and mastery effecting spenders is also awesome
Well Primal is also getting a buff. its dmg are now elemental instead of shadow. Which is a great buff for Ele.Cause it can proc Flash of lightning which reduce its cooldown by 1sec every cast of Bolt/Chain but it could also do the same for Storm Elemental.
As for Enchance its great for the Speed you can get combined with Doom to proc lots of Windfurry.
For Resto its mostly related to Riptide. I personally wont pick it cause im going for a diff type of build
Yeah, I’m thinking the final talent with Stormkeeper is just a placeholder, it works really well in its higher entry.
Flash of Lightning is lowkey one of the best items in the Elemental Tree. Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning dropping CDs by 1 sec per cast is nice.
Combine Flash of Lightning with Storm Elemental, where each cast of Lightning Bolt and Chain Lighting reduces your cast time of each following one by 3%, stacking 10 times.
Start with casting Stormkeeper, insta-call your Storm Elemental, then melt stuff with lightning. All of our elementals, Stormkeeper, Shocks, Ancestral Guidance, Lava Burst, Elemental Blast and the majority of our Totems count as Nature spells.
If any of those are on cooldown, (Stormkeeper and Storm Elemental will definitely be), then if you’re hasted enough, you could possibly keep this combo up every thirty seconds or so. Elemental is going to be insane.
Judging by the fact that most classes still don’t even have their new talent tress yet, i would bet that they haven’t been working on them for long. A lot of the talent trees look like something they slapped together over lunch.
But as for why they are so boring. Well that is likely by design. Despite what people say, Classes are very complex as it is and adding tons of “interesting” talents would perhaps be too much for your average player. Not to mention it would be a balancing nightmare.
I can’t say I expected Blizzard to show shaman extra love and care. The trees seem fine to be, but super boring. Nothing new and exciting, or even curious like the MM or Spriest trees.
Its almost like nobody ever learns. BLizzard only puts effort into art team and raid bosses rest is copy paste, touch it up for 5 seconds. Itll never change
I didn’t want anything new… I just wanted the SL borrowed power like wolf bones, doom winds, and splintered elements in the tree… which is what we got.
It genuinely baffles me how someone could look at this tree and say that… look at the fire build. There’s so much interaction it’s awesome.
FS ticking faster, generating maelstrom on every tick and ticks adding damage to your spenders. This means hella lava bursts into constant spenders. Then you have lava burst buffing spells with MoTE, frost shocks from ice fury buffing lava bursts, earth shocks from windspeakers buffing lava bursts, and spenders overloading, and then on top of that power of the maelstrom having LvB give a chance to auto overload your next Lb.
Think about going lava burst into natures swiftness into instant buffed icefury into ES into frost shock into massively buffed LvB and juggling this buff rotation.
Then in aoe you’ve got the potential to drop fire ele, flame shock, magma totem, call of the elements, magma totem again, flame shock, prim wave for a total of 9 flame shocks all at 36s duration and you throw out 9 lava bursts, maybe a prim wave reset or cooldown lowered by the talent to spam out 9-10 more lava bursts, all the while your flame shocks are rolling with prob close to 70% crit reducing the cooldown of fire ele. Then maybe DRE procs or you’re rolling with ascendance to throw out another 9 lava bursts.
