Shadowlands=Can no longer solo old raids

Oh thank goodness! The thought occurred to me last night and I had to go check this morning! My mog runs are pretty important to me.

Blizzard has already said in the deep dive that your character will be as capable as they are now doing old content.

Under the lvl squish bit.

Already confirmed we can solo old raids.

Here is from a more recent interview.

With the level squish making all currently level 120 character turn to 50, and all expansions scaling up to 50, will suddenly old content, like Hogger, be challenging for my now-120 character?
That’s a good question, we’re going to figure out a lot of details as we go through. Our intent is that, if you have already progressed all the way through a lot of the content in BFA, Hogger shouldn’t 1-shot you.

So it is very possible a pig in westfall will have the same power as your current 120.

with the path the game is taking, more cosmetics, more casual friendly game play i dont see them killing transmog runs on purpose, especially since like you said they did it by accident already.

i believe they said in an interview when you go into an old raid or maybe outside it you can talk to chromie to scale the raid down to a lower level to make it legacy content and u get to smash it like before.

curious if all raids will get scaled to a certain level or be at teirs like classic 15, bc 20. wotlk 25, cata 30, mop 35, wod 40, legion 45, bfa 50 or if they all are just maybe 20 so they are all just as easy

a pig in westfall with have the same power as a pig in bfa* ftfy

As mentioned in Shadowland’s official website (https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/shadowlands/#leveling)

*You can still outlevel dungeons and crush them for transmogs or fulfillment.

So yeah, you will be able to run old content for xmogs/mounts easly.

must be the chemicals in the water, Alex

There will probably be some tuning that will need to be done, but their goal is to still have players solo old raids. So if you can’t solo something, report it.

If they screw it up, probably the last nail in the coffin for them

It will likely be broken and require the latest xpac at cap.

Generally they balance around max level and not current cap. Same thing happened in 7.3.5 w/ MoP and required current cap. You used to be able to do MoP at 100, until the squish, which subsequently required semi-decent 110 gear (depending on class).

I expect similar levels of broken (or more likely - intentional to motivate even those not interested in xpac to buy it).

I worry about world bosses like the ones in Pandaria. I don’t know how you being 50 in the open world if that boss is also 50. Unless they really do scale everything down and when you talk to Chromie as an alt, you get placed into a levelling world where everything scales to you when you gain XP. That could work just the mathematics of being 11+ levels above will need to change.

I remember not being able to do MOP raids for some time after the ilvl squish on my max characters. I also recall that some of my toons that were left at lvl 90 and 100 couldn’t do some of the raids that they used to.

Just hope Chromie is available at the raids more than she is in Rustbolt. LOL

How will this affect the raid loot thing, where you can only get stuff 11 levels below you?

This is probably likely.

They’ve stated that their intent is to simply make the pacing of leveling more enjoyable and rewarding, not to adjust or affect power in any meaningful way – and a newly down-scaled level 50 coming from BfA (with, say, 445 ILVL) will still be egregiously strong running content designed for people wearing 264-277 ILVL (ICC 25 Heroic).

But the algorithm that increases damage players deals against enemies, based upon the difference in levels between both parties, probably won’t be functional immediately following the Level Squish – because if it were adjusted such that we were as powerful at 50 as we are now at 120, against older content at least, then we’d be able to 1-shot M Azshara by 60.

What is most likely is, as you say, you’ll need to get nearer to 60 before you begin to experience smooth running of previous expansion content (especially Legion’s content, which we’re not as far ahead of in itemlevel and which relies heavily on utilizing the damage increase(s) Blizzard provides for out-leveling something).

Which is the same as your current 120

have you fought anything at max level? i could auto down a pig with my staff and not lose 10% of my hp, that is rly not the same power level

They stated we will still be able to farm older dungeon content, but it wont be as easy like 1 shots

My guess is it will have to do more with ilvls now vs character levels.
