I don’t look at the pvp in this game in a vacuum, it’s just one piece of the overall game and whether or not I find it valuable enough to waste my time and money on it. If the pvp flounders, it effects my overall view of the game as a whole. If I quit and play something else, it isn’t necessarily because the other game has great pvp, it’s just that the other game has overall more content that I wish to consume for my time and money.
Imo, pvp in WoW just helps to prop up what is mostly a shallow gaming experience. Numerous games do various things better, it’s just a matter of weighing out each game in totality.
Well I don’t know. I don’t go looking. I dabble occasionally, in some randoms, but honestly, Im no PvP player.
The industry likes to step over itself making clones and whatever where the source material group isn’t making its move though. Like… Blazing Sails seems to be taking aim at the Sea of Thieves inactivity, for example.
I get that ops post was blowing it out of proportion with how he stated it, but if its been ‘sixteen years’ of frustrated pvp players and no ones tried to hit that…
And what pray tell should they have done, besides eliminate those barriers entirely via Warmode? Simply dangling free transfers doesn’t work (Classic proved that - lol @ Flamelash) because nobody willingly wants to go to a minority faction server, and they’re not about to forcibly move people, lock factions or break up guilds.
The best route is the one they took, balancing the world itself with their sharding technology rather than each individual server, which is exactly what War Mode allowed them to do.
Resilience made it possible for me to quest and farm without getting destroyed by bored raiders. It was the best stat ever. Doesn’t really work in today’s WoW though.
The issue that it fixed for PvP’ers is you can gear up with good / comparable ilvl gear by PvP only. Where before PvP’ers had to do mythic+ or Raid content they don’t care about to be competitive in PvP. It just made it like it was before, so there’s a route to gearing up that doesn’t involve PvE for PvP’ers.
Also this change allows you to upgrade your conquest gear with honor, which incentivizes players to farm PvP. This means more people involved in Arena, Random BG, and Rated BG. It incentivizes both casual and HC PvP’ers to PvP and rewards them accordingly. As opposed to forcing them to PvE for their gear.
Everyone wins with this change. And thank you to Blizzard for having the foresight to get this one right.
Do I have the answer to the problem? No. But I don’t agree with what they’ve done. Primarily because Warmode is essentially PvE mode but with the chance of players to kill you. The mode is essentially built for PvE players to be enticed to join, get killed and then complain about faction imbalance when in fact it should’ve been built for PvPers who enjoy World PvP with newer World Quests and open world objectives for players to fight over.
That’s exactly the point of why this works. Casual PvP’ers don’t have to do rated at all. You are not being forced to do rated BECAUSE of this change Where prior to the change you had to for worse gear than from PvE, see?
The only time rated PvP worked for WoW was when it had a very large and/or growing playerbase. A steady supply of participants to fuel the ladder system.
We are way past those times. WoW has a stagnant and much smaller playerbase. Any casual PvPer trying to get into rated pvp now quickly realizes that the odds are stacked way against them. That they’re just fodder for the high level players.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding. While this seems great for conquest gear. Is that massive grind for honor gear still left in the game requiring several hundred battlegrounds to upgrade to heroic dungeon or mythic 0 ilvl? (sorry I cant remember the end honor gear ilvl)
At this point why not just throw away the honor gear entirely and force templates in random BGs or set the max ilvl at w/e the max honor gear ilvl is. Let gear matter in rated BGs only. Because people who didn’t do conquest before this change are not suddenly going to want to find arena partners/join rated BGs.
People are more likely to just not enter into pvp at all, no new player is going to enjoy getting the shi t kicked out of them until they grind up the conquest, and I highly doubt a couple months into the expansion even any YOLO RBG groups are going to take/join the group of someone trying to gear up. Because you would most likely get matched against a geared group that would graveyard camp you.
But maybe im misunderstanding something. Not saying honor gear should be the equivalent to any higher difficulty thing…just that the grind should be super effing fast to get the starter pvp set that can allow you to enter into rated content at least.
WoD was when the rated pvp popularity nosedived? Based on what? Because from my experience that was in Legion. When they royally screwed up the PvP gearing system and you essentially had to PvE if you wanted any form of gear progression. Otherwise if you were on a PvP server, good luck.
Also, MoP had a steady decline and PvP was extremely popular.
Based on I was there. And I was here, on the forums reading about all the rated players lamenting how hard it was to rate upwards due to low participation.
And I remember thinking ‘good, maybe they’ll abandon rated PvP finally’.
But they didn’t. And every expansion they try to resurrect it like Frankenstein, and halfway through the expac they have to abandon it again because nobody’s playing.
Terrible change. It basically kills random BGs, and makes YOLO RBGs the new norm.
What most pvpers want (yeah, I’m talking for them) is for the good old BC->WoD system.
“But AFK gearing/botting!”
That’s a Blizzard problem, not ours.
If they fixed their report system, or watched it better, it would NOT be an issue.
The lack of actual humans observing random BGs in real time is the reason this happens in the first place.
At the very least, we should be able to SOLO Q rated.
If you’re not going to take the time to be apart of the discussion, then why bother to comment? Lol you can literally read the video description and it gives you the TLTR;DR.
