Not what I said…
But either way, maybe a poor choice of words on my end there.
HM is designed for ST fights. And if they add a CD to it, if you’re in a fight where you switch targets a lot in short time-spans then you won’t be able to keep the mark up on every target you swap to.
So, yes, it then causes uptime problems in certain scenarios(like the above) but it is still designed to have 100% uptime on an ST fight.
If they no longer base it off of ST damage but for multi-target encounters, perhaps. I doubt it though. Especially as the ability itself is specifically designed to not currently benefit you in multi-target scenarios.

Shows what I know. I though trick shots hit harder if it was based on a HM target.
Brings up another pain point. Marksman AoE is heavily tied to their single-target damage. They can’t, e.g. make up for the 5% shortfall in AoE by buffing our AoE spells- it’d end up buffing Aim/Rapid Fire or causing Multi-Shot to become so powerful it’d replace Arcane Shot.
On second thought, they could up the shared damage% of Trick Shots, or have Mark bonus apply to all subsequent Trick Shots. I bet Blizzard does this, although I’d still hate it.
Marks already takes forever for each mob pull because of Aimed, adding another mandatory GCD is going to be tedious. 2.5+1.5= 4 seconds per mob, just to start damaging? Some classes can kill a mob in that timespan.
May very well be the case. I haven’t looked into that as I have no interest in playing MM anymore. Not since Wrath.
But yeah, even if it did/does work like that, that’s for MM. It still doesn’t help BM or SV.
Not really. If it didn’t reset itself on death, or if the cooldown was longer than the effect, then it would be obvious they didn’t intend a 100% uptime. Since both those things are true though, it’s pretty obvious it’s intended to be up 100% of the time.
Frankly, I’m baffled by the change. It’s one of those changes that makes no sense, but it hurts game play. Maybe it has something to do with the interaction it’s going to have with a covenant ability. In that case, this would be the first immediate victim to game play for these covenant abilities. Since they don’t play hunter enough, they probably aren’t aware of how it affects game-play, or they are discounting how much a little thing like this hurts the overall feel of the class (like you are doing).
Correct. Because of this, there’s no reason to believe that Hunter’s Mark would ever be a benefit to hunters in a PVE setting. It’s not a single target buff, it’s a AOE/cleave nerf.
Blizzard either doesn’t get it, or they think we’re so stupid that we wouldn’t notice.

Any chance they gave HM a 20 second CD because they might remove it from the GCD?

Seems like they’re going to prune the class behind it’s classic stage. Why not bring deadzone back and require us to feign death for traps being there? An easy fix could be to tune up the dps to 100% without it and allow the mark to increase damage of the party on the affected target by a small amount, kind of like what if does for ranged attack power in classic. It would make the class really engaging and deepen the identity of it. Otherwise they could just remove the CD and the GCD altogether.
How on earth would it do that?
All it would do is force us to cast it even more, because now it’s not just our damage that suffers if we don’t, but everyone’s.

I really, really just wish they would remove Hunters Mark all together. Ive mained MM hunter since MoP and love occasionally playing the melee Survival. Hunters mark works well in classic, but has had NO place since. It was a boring talent for MM, and now its slowing down a “fast” paced class. The fact that they just added a 20 second cooldown is nothing short of infuriating. If I wanted to play a spec/class with set up, I’d play Arcane mage (and I do!). Hunters Mark genuinely has no place in modern day Hunter gameplay, where you just jump in and DPS. Everything else about Hunter and its changes have been fine, and can be understood/contextualized that some Covenant Conduit might improve/ change it. But Hunters Mark just existing? It makes no sense. Its beyond infuriated that Im forced to have such a boring, press and forget button on my hotkeys, ESPECIALLY with the 20 second cool down now!
Sorry if I sound heated, but Im shocked Blizz hasn’t removed this on week 2 of the PTR when everyone was criticizing how bad/unnecessary HM was from the very beginning, and they somehow went backwards/doubled down on its tideous, annoying use by adding a COOLDOWN instead of making it off the GCD at the very least. Very disapointed.
If you like HM, I hope they put it in the talents since I fully beleive thats where it belongs. It has a place for many players, but DEFINITELY not baseline. Replace it in the lower tiers instead of boring Master Marksman or Careful Aim, or elsewhere! Just NOT in baseline hunter spells.
if I’m wrong, I’d love to be told so, and why. I might be passionate but Im open for my mind to be changed (and hopefully it does, since it doesnt seem like its going anywhere!)

Perfectly valid to be pissed. I don’t think anyone was happy with that change.

Completely agree here - kiting as MM is pointless as every melee class can close the distance rapidly and we have 2 abilities that are gimped. I miss the days of actually being able to not worry about being facerolled in melee and actually having the chance to get back out to range to make it effective before being mowed down because the damage output is garbage in most cases against a melee (Rogue, DH, Warrior, Ret Pally, Enh Shaman…Druid.) - We have no escape utility that is the “Oh sh*t” Need to get outta melee and stay out.

Oops, probably shouldn’t have used my classic character lol

What a mess. Starting to look like HM is here to stay in this form.
Could at least make it spreadable to other targets with an AOE or even having a 30% chance to do so, capped to our now 5 mob/target cleave. This would work for all specs
For BM make it was spread to unmarked Mobs via a Cobra shot Target swap for up to 5 targets.
This would help with the Arcane shot debacle.
Some version no doubt could also be applied to SV and MM.
All this aside I would much rather it be gone baseline with PVP utility.

deadzones are terrible design no class should have deadzones

He knows. He was sarcastically suggesting bringing back two historical hunter mechanics that are widely regarded as atrocious design just for the sake of “flavor”, as a satirical critique of bringing back poor mechanics like Hunter’s Mark just for “flavor”.

Idk why, but I was really hoping we’d see more to BM hunters. I don’t mind the play-style, but it gets so stale over time.

The Kyrian Covenant ability Resonating Arrow has received several changes in this week’s Shadowlands update. The radius has been increased, which should make it easier to use against targets who are near the pillars in maps such as Nagrand Arena. Additionally, when a target leaves the Resonating Arrow area, the effect that allows you to ignore line of sight towards them will last for an additional 4 seconds.
Flayed Shot has had a minor update that makes the bonus Kill Shot no longer cost any Focus, so it can be used more freely.
We’ve implemented many bug fixes to Death Chakram, and it will no longer chain to targets that are under crowd control effects that break upon taking damage.
The design of Wild Spirits has been simplified quite a bit. Now, when you cast the ability, all targets in the area now take some immediate Nature damage. Any ability you use, including Kill Command, will now cause up to 5 targets in the area to take extra Nature damage. This extra Nature damage will ignore targets that are currently affected by crowd control effects that break upon taking damage. There is no longer any difference in behavior when using single target versus area damage with this ability.
Well, some changes to our covenant abilities just recently announced.
Sooo, just the basic class stuff and “everything” else left on the to-do list now then eh…
