This thread is to gauge the community interest in these changes, please keep things civil in this thread as this thread is not a place to debate why you don’t want the changes.
If you’re happy about the changes, and would like to express that leave a like on this original post and leave a comment saying why you’re excited for these changes!
Again, I’d like to stress that this thread is not the place for negativity either veiled by sarcasm or otherwise.
Since I can’t like my own thread, I’ll go first with why I like the changes:
As a Hunter player, I understand that having a pet was always tied to the identity of it in some capacity but that’s largely not the reason I chose to play it. I chose to play Hunter because I have an unhealthy fascination with bows and archery in general and wanted to live out my fantasy of being a discount Legolas. These changes that Blizzard is suggesting tickle my interests in a very good way, and it’s something that in my opinion MM has been lacking for a very long time as it’s not really had any identity other than the ranged spec that isn’t BM and performs about half as well. As an avid Solo Shuffle/WPvP Andy I can only see this change being very beneficial change for those who enjoy PvP. If you’re a PvE player I’d love to hear your takes on this change, as I’m unaware to how well MM performs in PvE content currently.
It’s general discussion, not general agreement. You can’t just make a thread where it’s forbidden to disagree, because then you don’t have a discussion. All you have is an echo chamber.
I disagree with the MM rework exactly because I want petless MM and I don’t want some eagle throwing off my groove.
Regardless of how it works in the game mechanics, a pet eagle is still a pet.
1000% in favor if they actually get rid of the controlled pet. I already swap to BM when I need a pet, which is really just soloing delves at this point or the occasional elite.
Using a pet in marks is gimped already, and the entire pull out your pet, lust, then dismiss thing is a mess. I am glad they are leaning into the archer play style more without the whole mess of pet abilities that don’t work as well as if you just swapped to BM.
In the end it should see better throughput on MM overall.
It’s more so just the spirit of Ohn’ara helping you out here and there, as from how it’s explained it sounds like it’s going to be more of a spell effect than an actual pet that exists with a health bar.
I totally agree, MM before the anniversary nerf felt good to play but the pet always made it feel a tad clunky especially in PvP since people just ignore pets anyways and focus me now I’ll have more burst damage thanks to them centering around Aimed Shot more and I’m assuming we’ll probably be getting some slight buffs to survivability now that we will be taking a decent bit of more heat in solo content as well.
Maybe for our knockback trap they can also now apply a snare or root effect to those caught in the blast before enemies can start making their way back towards you.
A pet by definition is only something you’ve tamed, the spirit of Ohn’ara is a friend to all Hunters just like Blåhaj is a friend and ally to all people!
Hunter here, I play BM and MM.
BM in serious stuff.
I don’t mind the changes. I think they’re there to help MM not feel like a ‘class in the middle’ which has been an issue since class trees of Dragonflight. A lot of the key visual concerns could be fixed via glyphs which they’ll implement if they care about pet fantasy/lore for MM players.
I’m personally fine with the change…as long as they take steps to improve MM survivability without a pet.
Hunters, in general, are far behind other classes in general damage reduction and self healing and the pets sort of made up for that by giving players a damage sponge when soloing things.
We already have several threads on this topic.
Is it really that difficult for you to deal with so many, many people who have been expressing their views AGAINST MM going without their pets?
And we’ve been posting options, constructive criticism, that’s not necessarily a ‘negative’. You’re implying that anyone who is against the MM changes is being negative.
We already had an option for playing without a pet; Lone Wolf
But for some reason they’ve decided to take the option away and force a choiceless mandatory pet/spell on every MM hunter.
MM is/was my favorite spec and I always played with a pet of my choice. Many other MM hunters did as well, we didn’t care if it wasn’t the “optimal” way to play. It was the way we wanted to play.
I sure as hell won’t be playing MM anymore with this change.
My hunter will probs be shelved.
No, it’s not difficult at all.
I just think that in a sea of negativity I’d like to create something positive.
No, that’s not the case at all.
There’s already plenty of threads for voicing opinions of dislike for this change.
I get to ask what I wish, just as it is your choice to ignore that.
It wasn’t a dictation, it was a polite request and I thank you for remaining civil.
Personal attacks will get you nowhere, I’m sorry that you don’t like the changes but that doesn’t excuse your behavior.
Personally I find my self healing to be rather sufficient but then again I don’t really touch M+ or other higher difficulty PvE content so maybe it’s lacking in those regards.
But yes, I do agree that either a buff to their traps to keep people away or an overall survivability buff would be a nice QoL change to accompany this update.
