Season of Discovery Developer Update - Feb 27, 2024

Wow, I didnt expect them to react to the alt numbers dropping so fast from the lack of GDKPs, kekw

These are very welcome changes. My reasoning is most of the players are probably veteran players that may not have as much time to play as they used to. So the increase in experience, gold reward, and reduced mount cost will help with long-term alt progression.

Tell me you didn’t play past WotLK without telling me you didn’t play past WotLK.

I played from day 1. I did every raid all the way through WotLK. You are just wrong.

That’s fine there just won’t be a next time.

Too little, too late.

It’s been 3 weeks.

Most of us that have left are just riding out the last of our account time.

  1. Gnomer is too hard for PuGs.
  2. Forced PVP on the PVE servers with having to actively search for the “opt out” NPC was a bonkers bad idea.
  3. Mount costs going back up at the last minute was another big miss.
  4. Mob open world spawn rates were horrible the first weekend. And rather than quickly fixing it, we got more wishy washy answers from the dev team.
  5. The current profession gear from the raid encourages gold buying. I mean I agree with killing GDKPs, but did the team even stop to think about the other things they do and are in the game that actively encourage RMT.
  6. There are two decent dungeons at level 40, yet no one is running them. Maybe put the profession stuff in those too, rather than just the over tuned garbage that’s Gnomer.
  7. The 40 man raid change should have been announced in January or heck, December.

The lack of a road map and planning that’s apparent by this dev team is abhorrent. It’s obvious they’re being 100% reactionary and just don’t get the fact that NONE OF US WANT RETAIL!!! We want Era level mechanics difficulty with a progression feel, not this twitch gaming jump to this mob, then that mob, oh and they all have to die at once, and do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around.

We wanted “Season of Dads” not “Season of Sweaty Retail Players”. Thanks for ruining it before it really even started.

Hello,

Honest question,

I already paid for the higher mount price, will I be reimbursed for the change?

I just bought my mount last night… and you guys announce that it is going to be half off randomly almost a month into the new phase. Great job!

I played through BC. Both times. What’s your point? I have played with 25 player content and 40 player content. I find the 40 player content more fun.

More importantly, I think that if you are going to base a game on a version that FEATURES 40 player content, moving to 20 player content and removing 40 player content is a recipe for people to leave.

Why would anybody care about the bad version of the game that barely anyone plays?

Sure some will leave. Some have already left. Good riddance. They will keep far more people with these changes than they would by leaving end-game 40-man.

How many times are you and your alts gonna spam this same post? Quick Ctrl+F shows this being spammed verbatim

I don’t know about you guys but I’m excited to see all the changes and participating in this “experiment” it’s been fun, I’ve honestly experienced everything SoD has to offer- the only thing I hate is being one shot in STV by over powered runes etc … hopefully that gets sorted out soon …

For those who are upset about it not feeling like “vanilla” or that it’s “too easy”
PLEASE feel free to TURN OFF your ADDONS and go play era … for one simple reason, THIS IS NOT VANILLA nor CLASSIC ERA … this is SoD a whole new experiment …

They don’t understand that probably the last half of phase 1 activity was purely GDKP

Sure bud. Whatever you say. Bye.

SoD has clearly diverged from Classic/Vanilla/whatever, so best of luck with that, but for any future Classic+ that could come out in the future, I’ll define what I think it should be:

Classic+ is new Eastern Kingdoms & Kalimdor content, including items, gear, encounters, events, leveling experiences, questlines and lore. It maintains Vanilla systems and design as-is.

New content, no changes.

If you want to please people, you should probably allow people to toggle between 20 and 40 man raid sizes if that is even possible.

Other solution would probably to let people bring more than 20 people even if it’s tuned for 20 and will drop only the loot for 20, but I can already see the parse lords having issues with that lol.

I’m fine with 20 personally, I hope that would have been possible form the start instead of having to manage multiple 10 man that lead to loss of players.

Easiest answer of my life, NOOO

Reducing from 40-mans is not the way to go. Frankly it will kill what good SoD had going for it.

There’s a common argument that the 40 raids are already figured out and can be done with less.

  • Redesign the raids and/or bosses to suit a higher complexity as has been done for SoD so far.

SoD prides itself on the ability for niche builds/offspecs to exist in contrast to what was available/acceptable in a Vanilla environment.

  • One of the strongest points of attraction for SoD. Understand that with smaller raid sizes, once a meta is established there is little to no room for people to bring their unconventional/non-meta playstyles. A 40-man allows for a number of players to pay attention to mechanics(as has always been the design intention of raids), and still have enough raid slots left for those who don’t pay enough attention to mechanics but put out adequate DPS for the fights and for those that don’t pay enough attention to mechanics and don’t put out adequate DPS for fights. If you reduce the raid size, there simply won’t be enough room for the ‘frivolous’ additions to the group. Players will continue to be forced to pay attention to meta and forsake their preferred playstyle in favor of a limited group composition. This is the opposite of the “soda and pretzels” environment that you’re claiming to seek.

I’m perfectly fine with some of the 60 raids becoming 20 man, but the amount of crying on these forums about 40 mans is insane. This is CLASSIC wow people, like, who are you guys and where did you come from?

I played from vanilla to cata and quit until SOD. Nothing could bring me back to wow and SOD did it.

That being said, I am enjoying SOD more than I did before. It’s been great. Dragged on a bit at the end of phase 1 but the excitement driving into phase 2 was amazing.

I started my guild again, recruited ONLY via word of mouth and right now we have 6 gnomer raids (all mains) and an alt raid running every lockout with full clears across the board. I understand the feeling from your perspective to keep “everyone” happy but it simply cannot happen. Please do not stray from the original formula. Keep big end game raids 40 players! PLEASE. Reward these guilds who dove into SOD head first and built a guild/community.

The MC change is very much welcomed. It’s a boring raid that everyone has done repeatedly and getting the “level up” raid treatment is absolutely brilliant. However, what steered wow into the legendary status it is 19 years ago was written in the design the original developers had. Community engagement, 20 and 40 player raids, slower world exploration, professions that did something, exciting quests (and a lot of not exciting ones), raid attunements, NO FLYING MOUNTS, and a gritty atmosphere true to the original IP warcraft.

You have an opportunity to keep this version of wow as amazing as it has been. Keep up the good work and don’t lose sight of what brought us all back here in the first place.

Side note, please make content more difficult haha. This is just a personal request.
