same as with any of the over servers.
it’s sort of true enough. Many of the old servers populations have selected the realms they will roll on.
Well said!
what about whitemane?
I agree. I’m not one to give excuses for things I’ve never done or to advocate for others, but our community isn’t this “mess” the rest think of it.
[This will likely end up as a wall of text I can’t really TL;DR. I’m sorry, but, try to stay with me.]
I am a native english speaker living in Brazil. I’ve been part of their community and playerbase for some years now. I’m a fluent portuguese speaker and I’ve met many great players as I did bad ones. But, say what, these are literally everywhere.
Always consider that it’s easier to notice a bad, toxic player in the crowd than a good one.
These are my three points:
First, the NA community, as is the EU, is pretty vast. There are so many people that one or two toxic players are rarely pointed out - often, they’re just sent to blacklist oblivion. The BR and remaining SA community, however, isn’t that big; in fact, we deal with a really small amount of people when compared to the bigger picture. Being sorted with a SA/BR player while using Dungeon Finder, for example, can get quite rare. It’s a really low chance. Not so much in LFR but, eh, that’s a lot of people.
Second, if you ever get to a dungeon with a player that is doing their job very well you probably won’t even notice. That’s because first: you don’t really care about it as long as they’re not bothering you and second: you don’t mind where they are from. That happens to almost everyone in this rage-driven community, specially nowadays.
On the other hand, if you match with anyone being bad or saying anything you don’t understand/bothers you, you won’t like it. You’ll look up on that person, examine them, check where they’re from, what server they’re in. You’ll likely blacklist them. Now, there are so many NA servers out there that you likely won’t think “this guy is garbage, it had to be from Proudmoore” or “not surprised, they’re just like everyone over on Moonguard” (on a side note: hey, guys, these are just examples, ok? nothing against you bois.); they’re just toxic and that’s it.
Now, there’s the issue. You see, as said previously, there are very few SA and BR servers, both communities as a whole are just too small. In fact, the most populated ones happen to be Ragnaros and Azralon. It’s obvious you’re noticing that, because it’s a pattern, and now you’re attributing that behavior to it like some sort of cause-consequence. And, trust me, it’s not really like that.
Jeebus, some of those players are even avoiding their own servers to not be persecuted by the rest of the community. That’s just awful. Imagine if that were you.
Third and (finally) last point: the language barrier is extremely thin. Some of these guys try just SO HARD to be understood and to understand the vast majority that they learn something new everyday. Some are just so good at it that their english is even better than many native’s. Guys, how many times have you seen people excusing themselves on Reddit and other social media (even these forums, mind you) for their “bad english” when it’s not bad at all? While it’s true not all of them are brazilian, their interest to learn and integrate is true and, because of that, I think pushing them away is just unfair.
As hard as it is to admit, you have to agree that everything has good and bad points. That’s the nature of this world. Instead of emphasizing the bad ones, help reinforce the good ones. Don’t push away, take it in. Educate. Jerks are just about everywhere, treat those like you’d do any other, wherever they’re from.
This text has been so exhausting that it WILL have a lot of typos.
sorry for my bad egnslisch
It’s funny to read because most American ppl assume that the world must adapt to them…
55:45 horde
That’s interesting there were several Brazilian players in the Classic forums talking about it and were speaking better english then some of the people that use it as their main if not only language.
That isn’t entirely true, I beg to reason.
The english language is the third most spoken around the world. It was chosen as the main international speech language and it’s considered by many countries a lingua franca, or bridge language.
Sometimes that can sound unfair, I know, but sadly that’s the way it is. It nothing new, wasn’t chosen by americans necessarily and that’s how things are. I don’t think we should generalize any kind of behavior on any side.
blame the brits btw
YOu do know that Brazil does not speak the same language as the rest of SA or Mexico right.
Brazil speaks Portuguese the rest speak spanish and if you think they are the same then French and Italian are the same thing as Spanish.
annnd, whats your point?
Native Spanish speaker here.
The discussion I’m reading on the Spanish forums is that Spanish speakers are going with Thalnos and Faerlina… leaning more towards Thalnos.
I didn’t see any discussion in Portuguese, but I would think Brazilians would go to the same server as Spanish speakers because the languages are so similar. If you’re a native speaker in one, you can understand most of what is said in the other language just fine.
I have a bunch of macros in Portuguese. stuff like “Hi. How are you?” “hang on, I need mana” “no I don’t speak Portuguese, these are macros. but i wanted to try and communicate”.
It just not that hard, y’all.
waidmann: portuguese and spanish may be 2 different languages, but they have far more in common with each other than french and italian do. If you speak portuguese, you can understand a good 90% of what a spanish person says. and yes, I do speak portuguese, so having brasilians in the realm I am going to won’t bother me at all
Well, we’ve been asking for a dedicated server for years now, blizz just doesn’t care.
MS on goldrinn ( brazilian server ) is the same as any other US realm, that’s why most of the hardcore raiders just switch to US realms to join real guilds.
Or you could play on the new pvp server and not have to deal with it.
My issue isn’t so much the language. I want networking and friendships. In vanilla, people have even gotten jobs through guildmates from their server. It’s a big deal to me to have a greater chance of playing with Americans possibly close to where I live. It goes much deeper than the language barrier.
Fitting that I named one of my toons on Thalnos after a brazilian soccer player!
Yea i totally understand and sympathise, there should be a latin spekaing server, if there is that many… i play NA, as a euro, just couse i want to escape multiple languages mess…
if you started a latin server, you’d still have the same problem
