i just can’t trust my opinion with sequels because i also genuinely enjoy dragon age 2
that said, I also do genuinely enjoy ds3’s invasions (I hopped in the watchdogs of Farron faction) and a lot of the weapons and aesthetics, my only big complaint - beyond that it felt very safe, if I’m being honest - is that miracles felt a bit weak? at least the ones I’ve used, I still need to sit down and go through all the dlc at some point
I always forget Demon’s souls and I think it’s because I repress the memories of how many times I died to… Phalanx, I think? As far as builds go, I loved doing miracles/faith builds in 2, and yeah - it was pretty quick to pick up, and I wore the Alva armor for 90% of the game
world/level design is definitely not 2’s strongest suit, but I liked it once I got used to it; turned me into a kite shield/straight sword player. I did think that a lot of 2’s best bosses were the DLC fights, though.
I would also say that some of 1’s gimmicks weren’t very fun for me, though; specifically, tomb of the giants was misery.
are you telling me it isn’t fun to walk down a giant waterlogged hallway with wizards throwing magic missiles at you every 2 seconds
Okay you can all shut your heretic mouths, I LOVED Tomb of the Giants ever since I first played the games in like 2012 and even now. The total darkness is so striking! Nito is so mysterious and powerful! You really feel like you’re walking in deep places no one living should tread! It’s important!
If you aren’t playing cautiously on your first time through an area, you’re probably already dead.
DS2 also had stuff like going down to The Gutter at level 1 and so on - stuff that was fun and reminiscent of going to Tomb at level 1 in DS1. I never felt any of that in DS3.
I loved skipping through stuff way too powerful for me and getting gear I shouldn’t have and […]
It’s why I’ve started (but not finished) so many more DS2 playthroughs than the other two. I can hop in, not even get that far in, and go: “I’m a real Pyromancer/Hexxer/Sorcerer/Cleric/sword+board/big strong/dexterity boy now.”
Pacing killer. To do it “right” in either extreme case is playing too slow and carefully or going fast and being very risky. I always think The Gutter or one of the side Ratboy covenant areas are the worst then I remember Shrine of Amana exists.
It’s like doing the Anor Londo Silver Knight greatbow sections but extended for the lulz.
i bet you like the Duke’s Archives
I did a “direct as possible” path once for the Heirs of the Sun in DS2. Low level cleric, even with the beast that is the Mace, was interesting to get to the valley ASAP.
Tried to do it in DS3 for the Moonlight Greatsword for a Sorcerer but wound up getting dunked one time too many by the Dancer.
Use Silvercat ring to jump down into grave of saints, equip the force miracle, knock Roy off 2nd floor lockstone bridge. Kill Royal Rat Vanguard, burn ascetic, go back up and force offline. Join CoC. Warp back down and delight that Roy spawns infinitely. Collect your 500,000 souls and 50 awestones then head back up and turn in until Vanquishers seal. Become bareknuckle powerstanced boxer. Kill Last giant in 8 seconds. You won’t struggle on a boss until the DLC.
I’m sorry your smooth duck brain can only understand go here smash enemy while the rest of us true gamers can appreciate hyper gimmick areas that lose novelty fast like true artistes
I sometimes have a hard time separating Studio reputation from the games they produce.
By the time I played Inquisition the Anthem expose came out and it became obvious that BioWare has been a toxic work environment for a quite a long time and I havent been able to look at a BioWare game the same way again.
