RP Server Rules?

Absolutely. I’m just talking about folks that think ‘clowning’ In Character equates to kiting hordes of mobs in to the middle of RPers, as you suggested.

Or naming your character ‘Clowntown’.

Or naming your guild ‘Storm Area Fifty One’.

This isn’t us not having a sense of humor, it’s folks like us getting annoyed by folks such as yourself that get their kicks by poking at RPers.

RPing a social experience. It really just comes down to whether the majority of players think a person is griefing under the pretense of RPing. Really, any RPer that isn’t a complete noob will respond to whispers and tells that are asking for a course correction on behavior that seems OOC.

Even this can RPd. Proper presentation is everything.

The thing is, RPers are used to getting the raw end of the stick. We are a socially ostracized group within a socially ostracized group, which means dealing with hateful people and immaturity on a daily basis.

All we want is for people to make the small leap in logic required to realize that if you don’t want to RP don’t roll on an RP or RP-PVP server.

RPers get a small end of the stick? Welcome to the PvP world. Fs in chat

Well I’m sorry you feel um socially ostracized. I started role playing on Quantum Link back in the 80’s and I guess that means I just aged myself to some degree. We had various channels you could join and eventually there was Habitat. I don’t speak for a group but I’ve never felt socially ostracized for role playing.

In terms of “role play” Servers I do see things that greatly annoy me and those mostly come from others claiming to be role players. As opposed to say trolls or non role players on rp servers. So I guess we all have our experiences.

PvPers have it great. The rules of PvP are enforceable. RPers have to put in constant effort to just play the game how they want to play it thanks to the multitude of toxic players who come to RP server who don’t want to RP.

You need to stick to retail we don’t want people like you on our server telling who can play and trying to say what is and isn’t RP. You should let us all know your in game name so we can block you. Just playing a character in this game is RP and long as they go by the name rule and respect others then they are in the right to enjoy the game and server. You have no claim over this server so stop demanding people not to come here and play their way long as they respect others and follow the rules Blizzard had set out. ( Not your made up rules)

Azgoroth,

I totally get your feeling and where you’re coming from, but your regular posts about non-RPers staying the hell away from RP servers is starting to get toxic in its own way, encourages trolling, and contributes to the reputation that RPers are exclusive prigs. There’s going to be plenty of room for all of us on the RP servers. If we, the RP community, don’t welcome people who don’t RP and/or are curious but never tried it, we’ll miss out on the opportunity of playing with cool people and perhaps getting new people into RP who haven’t been before.

Non-RPers on RP servers have the responsibility to respect RPers and the RP environment, while we RPers have the responsibility to respect a person’s choice to not RP or just dabble in it when they feel comfortable. There’s no such thing as “freeloading” the environment on a server. Everyone who plays there shares equally in the responsibility of building and maintaining a healthy and enjoyable atmosphere. Best you accept that now.

For any of you out there who aren’t really into RP or are curious about it and have rolled on Grob or Bloodsail, feel free to get in touch with me to talk about life on an RP server or the basics of RP. I’ll be happy to have a chat and give you an encouraging space to give it a try before Classic launches.

Regards,
Vendorioc/Dromtar of Wyrmrest Accord

Well said. I really hope the majority on Grobb have your attitude. From the couple threads on this. It seems most do.

The only difference on RP realms is:

  1. Naming rules, you can’t make a character named something that cannot be a RP name such as Lolusuck.

  2. You cannot harass anyone that is RP. If they chat with you in RP, you don’t have to reply in RP. You just need to respect their choices and not harass them.

There are no extra rules. People will claim that there are, but they are more like courtesies rather than rules. People would prefer if you use OOC and IC for Out Of Character, In Character, etc. but they are not required.

Whats the unoffical rule for Kos/Pking on a RPPvP server I always wondered?

Actually, those names fit the gnomes of mount nevermind…
Just RP that your a gnome that got sent over from the dragonlance realm

That’s going to be determined by the server as the community conventions are ironed out. I’ve always played it as kill them once then let them go about their business.

I’m pretty sure names like that are against Blizz’s naming rules for RP servers.

Not sure what kos/pking is but sounds like world PvP killing? I feel long as people are mature about the situations and don’t constantly gang someone or act childish then every thing is groovy. It’s why I love RP pvp servers. People normally respect others and it makes the game better. I mean I also like to RP some here there with a real life friend even though I’m not good at it since I have trouble with learning. Spelling is not my strong point luckily I’m able to read and understand most stuff.

PK is Player Killing and KOS is Kill On Sight, meaning they’ll kill any opposing faction on sight regardless. Death squads and corpse camping happen on PVP servers; especially where there aren’t many to choose from. :frowning:

Even if im not good at RP and can’t always join in fearing I might mess something up but at least can enjoy watching others and also make the world more immersive. I just wish there was speech to text in the game ha

I wonder if the horde and alliance will be close to balance.

Originally on RP servers the rules were left to the community. GMs wouldn’t wander around and randomy enforce them. So if the commuity enforced rules, they would be enforced. And yes I am someone who reports names like “uberpwnhaxoor” on rp realms.
I haven’t seen people reporting things said in general that aren’t IC, I always thought general and trade were for OOC chat. Many guilds will want guild chat to be IC only but that isn’t reportable, just a guild rule.

That’s how it’s been for me since the start of BC about chat rules
