Thats exactly what I am trying to find… an official rule set… I cant seem to locate an official one anywhere.
Look at it this way also, if you got the name Mercy with an accent over the e, or whatever, wouldn’t it be annoying for both the original mercy and you, to have the same name? I feel that, unfortunately, by them claiming that name first, they simply have that claim. Currently in retail you can use altcodes, but I do not recall any at all in classic, there are rules somewhere, let me find em
Naming convention is enforced on RP realms. ie: No names with real life references and names that are exceptionally silly.

I agree with you, thats why I chose against it
I have a paladin named “Purge”, because it reflects his lawful-stupid attitude.
A dwarf named “Cannon”, because he’s fervently obsessed with big explosions and big artillery.
The exception is my bank alt, named places, which I will achieve the PvP title of “private” on for lulz. However, I doubt he’ll leave the bank and mailbox enough, neither be logged into enough, to really be noticed.
Someone already linked the RP name rules before, so credit to them, but I’ve also listed the regular name rules so you can compare the differences. Regular realm’s have far less guidelines. I also included the code of conduct. If you read the code of conduct carefully, you’ll see it is very… non specific?

I’d accept that name for a brown colored tauren. Any other race though. Nah.
Give me a good backstory on Coffee the Tauren Warrior, you have 2 minutes.
His mum named him that because hes the same color as coffee, and cows are simple folk. He has a brother named Coal and a sister named Spot. You can guess what they look like.

with names i always look at the names of NPCs and the theme theyre used while naming, it helps me a lot because i’m not creative XD

I was looking for that earlier. I did see the naming guide for role playing servers and I do realise we are walking a fine line here. Synikal and Sarcasm were the names of our very first classic characters and so we really want to bring them back. Also, some of our friends names are going to be pushing it too.
I really appreciate the responses. Community is so important in classic and thats the big appeal to being on the RP server. We dont want to ruin anyones experience, but we want to have a good time in game too. I guess we will just cross our fingers and hope you all accept us LOL.

Seeing names like that in chat channels such as /say /yell etc. does bother some people.
Seeing guild recruitment advertisements for random OOC names is immersion breaking.
It’s not a hard request, we RPers are very friendly and welcoming, but if you’re going to roll on the ONE server designated for our playstyle, it’s common courtesy to respect the ruleset.
Plenty of people will report both player and guild names that violate the RP naming policy. If this worries you or irritates you, roll on a different server that suits your preferences.

You won’t ruin anyones experience at all! Don’t worry, the same people you’re worried about encountering are the same ones I don’t want to encounter either. I think you’ll be fine, whenever I get a good name i try to not even talk in trade because i’m paranoid i’d get reported out of spite, I have the name Nightborne on my Nightborne, I try to hide ;3
Edit: take it back, maybe ruining experience is subjective, but i’d say if your name survives than so be it, if it doesn’t follow guidelines as i posted, and it gets changed, don’t be too hard on yourself. You have the right attitude you’re just being careful!

As a lot of folks have said, rule #1 is respect RPers as it’s an RP realm and our sanctuary. Rule #2 is don’t be a snotrocket.
Depending on the person you may or may not get reported for a non-RP name. If you have an RP addon with a clearly RP name but your character is not-quite-rp, most folks will give you a pass. A lot of RPers will roll tons of alts so “good” names can be taken fairly quickly.
Here’s a little guideline/introductory post I did for non-RPers or people new to RP who rolled on an RP realm. I rolled on an RP server, now what? - #53 by Putrus-sisters-of-elune I hope you find it helpful.
As for the numbered “world” chats, they’re out of character and “at your own risk”. I generally have them turned off given their typical nature, but LFG will be of particular use as going around /say -ing or /yell -ing “LFG Mara” is disruptive.
Carl’s just fine. It fits a human or Forsaken well.
I used to play with a guy named Soup. His story was that he had been an army cook before being turned undead and the soldiers called him Soup long enough that the name stuck.
There’s a difference between not following Blizz’s stated naming guidelines and using something that clearly doesn’t fit into the world. What’re you going to be using?
It looks enough like an actual character name that it will pass no problems, regardless of the real-world connotations.
I’d be careful with this. In character or not, if you go around trolling people they’ll think you’re an actual troll and may report you. Outside of small groups, people who play like that tend to get bad reputations quickly, and in Classic, reputation is going to mean a lot. At the very least they’ll probably put you on their ignore list.
That’s one of the best ways to come up with names, what’re you talking about?!

That was the point. It’s funny. This character’s name is just the German root word for hammer. I was unoriginal like that, but never got reported! 
I have different names… Kanstil(My main shaman), Suicidal, Depression, Kanstilxo, Kanstilxd, Rileyreidtko, etc… Im not one to grief people or interrupt stuff, I will even /wave or something if people do the same or are in the middle of RPing.
I am only going here because my good friends want a nice non toxic community and a non PvP realm. I play on tichondrius right now if that says anything about my preferences, but im gonna go where my friends go. I know lots of people who will be doing the same
