I mean people are gonna be reporting my names, “suicidal” “depression” “visuals” etc… even though i will never bother them
most likely, because they do not belong on an RP server. You might find some variation of words that signify or relate to, but naming directly as that would likely get your an FNC.
Maybe names like: Soulys, Darkmoon, Shadowmoss, Eanmaer (dark souls ref, as Patriarch of Blood).
If you are looking for “dark” naming conventions, you might try:
https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/dark-souls-names.php
for rp. yeah like, technically “coffee” isnt even rp friendly, but these days names like that will probably pass for rp realms, like people are saying, as long as it blatantly doesnt break the guidelines listed in rules, you won’t be reported for not being “RP enough” those are pretty on the fine line i guess, someone will be ok with those some not,
- Non-medieval or non-fantasy names (For example: Slipnslide, Robotman, Technotron)
is the kicker
RP servers have stricter naming policies, but you’d be surprised how lax it is unless you end up being unlikable to too many. Most RPers end up acquiring an addon that allows them to customize their name to whatever they like, including last names, nicknames, and other details about their character. It’s a full character sheet, in a sense, and those with the addon will see their names in chat as what they have in this addon.
TRP is one, but it doesn’t yet have a port to Classic. I believe MRP does based off of hearsay, and has been brought more up to par with TRP.
This means you can have your name usually as whatever you want, so long as you use an RP addon to make it more RP-friendly.
Good point but almost a seperate can of worms
SO, My crew is interested in rolling on Bloodsail. We are not necessarily a role playing group, we are just and older more mature group that doesn’t want to spend the next 3 years in ridiculous chat channels endlessly.
So my husband and I roll the names Synikal and Sarcasm, as we have for years. Are we going to be reported off of the server if we play there? honestly we want the community.
You get it Jux! It was just goofy examples. Poor examples at that. People are literal
yeah discussing things on the internet is like pulling teeth sometimes with the level of semantics and nitpicks, but it allows for more discussion I guess lol.
Also @ Jalyl it should be fine but again on that fine line in that it technically breaks the non-fantasy names
I don’t have these names, but I was wondering about ‘nicknames’ perhaps the character only goes by their nickname.
Examples:
They called him ‘Whisper’ he stalked the back alleys of Stormwind. You could find him only if you knew where to look.
‘Shiny’ was a priestess, she was brave and honorable. She shined brightly with the power of the light.
‘Bowman’ they called him, for that was what he was known for. He lived in a small hut near the woods, hunting was his life.
I actually got very normal names, but I like nicknames like these sometimes, are they not allowed?
Edit: You create the character with the nickname.
I like Synikal, dont see a real issue with it, Sarcasm could be changed to: Sarkasm, or Sarchasm, maybe Sardonic, as examples.
Hmmm fine line fine line D:
@morrigalne yeah nicknames are fine lol, it’s the name that you actually Create a character as, is the question, oh wait I get it now.
If your RP is something like, “He is just an ordinary archer that is an elf, a Bowman” and your rp is literally a soldier nothing like that, I think you’re good imo
I dont see an issue with any of these, and a quick back story you added really validates each name, nicely done!
I would say add in those extra tidbits in the character info panel
I meant as the create a character name
You’ll probably be fine just like Sarcasm even though technically it breaks the guidelines, but should we let you have those names >:( lol
kinda what im getting at with the thread overall, the current enforcement of da rules is pretty lax/undefined is all, what are your opinions on allowing alt codes?
Some real life names have them. I think if the name appropriately has alt codes it’s fine.
Étienne
Anaïs
Aimée
…but not like a dictionary pronunciation. It’s just my opinion though.
re-al li-fe?
no idea what that is, some spell?
lol, actually I like alt codes and in many instances I think they add to the fantasy look of the names. I think it can make them appear more elvish or dwarvish for instance
altcodes used to intentionally get the name that was already in use? All of these particular circumstances that are subjective makes it tough to moderate
They are not actively enforced, but you can easily be reported and get yourself a suspension/ban if you break the RP realm ruleset.
I see what you mean. I agree thats probably pushing it. So, I can say I have done that before, but not on an RP server. Infact I was faced with that decision yesterday during the naming. (We reserved synikal and sarcasm on bloodsail with not problems) But I was wanting to run a priest named Mercy in classic. Mercy was already taken like literally 2 minutes in, and I considered giving myself a special little flair and take it anyway, but since its an RP server I decided to just stay with Synikal /shrug.
