Hi,
I am running into several role players a week who are typing sexually explicit or inappropriate content in /say in public areas around major cities.
Can they be reported/banned for potentially exposing minors to their explicit fiction, and even myself?
I certainly do not consent to this kind of ‘content’ , and even if they use an addon that not everyone has to say ‘minors do not inquire’ …
a young person running by on a quest or errand could read what they type, including descriptions of anatomy, acts, and behavior totally inappropriate for a 13 or 14 year old to accidentally read.
I confronted the last group of people who did this and it was disturbing to see 6, who I perceive to be grown adults, tell me off and say the game is not “E” rated, but I do not recall WoW having explicit sexual content in any of the quests and the game is not rated “M”.
Can they be reported and action taken?
This is not a case of a private, personal, or guild ‘plot’ where everyone has ‘signed’ up for mature descriptions and narrations.
These are descriptions and narrations of explicit nature in /say that anyone can read.

It doesn’t belong in /say. It is reportable. Of course, you should have reported it at the time as opposed to coming here to rant about it.
Also, this assumption…

At any rate, you probably shouldn’t be bringing that into the conversation, because your “Perception” of the gender of the players involved doesn’t matter either way.

You don’t even need to bring minors in (though it makes it worse), explicit stuff just isn’t allowed in public channels. Report and move on.

I felt inclined to make a post about it because this is a multiple daily occurrence as if there is nothing that can be done about it.
This was definitely not my experience before my 8 year hiatus between WoD and late DF.
It is good to know that people feel like action can be taken at least.

What do you expect us players to do? Some are going to go flocking there to see what’s up… you are shining a light on something you perceive as bad with a glittering generality of a premise. You are intentionally making it sound like all of those people are bad
I don’t even have a true example to see with context to judge one way or another, so as I see this post going is just going to stir the pot and demonize role players in general; nothing good will come from this thread

IMHO, Blizzard is very fair about explicit text. Insofar as it’s in private, they don’t really care - but if it’s in public…
Let’s be real here: did you really need Blizzard to explicitly tell you to keep the raunch private? It just seems like common sense to me.
That said, I think you might be right… there was a crack-down on ERP at one point, but it was directed at public channels specifically.

Oops missed that it was in public channels, anyhow I think it might be allowed in private chats/guild chat because we never got trouble
I played my first 10 years of WoW on an RpPvP server, Maelstrom, Horde, and definitely do not remember any part of Orgrimmar or major expansion city hearing or listening to explicit things when running by.
I saw one pair of blood elves in a shack in ghostlands while questing, and I did not stick around.
Now I can be in any part of Stormwind after 7PM and hear either OOC discussion or RP posts of inappropriate topics
