Rise of Azshara Experiences So Far

In a word? Disappointed.

This was a hugely anticipated patch after a very long content drought and, at least to me, it fell flat on its face.

The two new zones are visually appealing but as many have pointed out, feel old and recycled (there is really nothing that’s new or awe inspiring aside from the Zin Azshari/ Eternal Palace part of Nazjatar). Terrain is absolutely atrocious and in places nearly impossible to maneuver, only exacerbating the pent up desire to unlock flying and get our wings back (yet again). The jetpacks in Mechagon, particularly, feel like a slap in the face. The difference of being with one as opposed to w/o is like night and day.

NPC enemies in the new zones are once again way too overtuned and difficult to kill by mythic geared players that could one/two shot most mobs just days ago.

Perhaps my biggest gripe of all is the fact that, especially in Mechagon, daily quests are not tracked on the map! This is a hugely frustrating issue especially right now when everyone is hyper aware of these quests and wants to get every single ounce of reputation possible to get flying unlocked! As of right now I have no idea how many quests I’ve missed even though I scoured the zones diligently every day.

Another issue is the plethora of bugs and other frustrating situations like easily predictable bottlenecks, extremely annoying and RNG based quests like the puzzle chests, ley-line untangle, jellyfish nonsense and on and on.

In the same vein as above, the legendary pet quests are incredibly overtuned and in many cases impossible to complete (while simultaneously being ridiculously easy in other cases) for people who don’t have high level rare pets. Normally, I don’t have a problem with rewarding people who participate in all aspects of the game but in this case you gated a substantial amount (in the thousands) of reputation via one time turn in quests after defeating a legendary pet for the first time and that feels horrible as yet another hurdle to obtaining flying as soon as possible which you had to know was going to be first and foremost on most players’ minds.

Some things that work, well one thing really, the revamp of the horrendous Azerite system. I absolutely love the new active abilities unlocked via essences. They look beautiful and range from simple fire-off-and-forget-it abilities to much more complex and rotation impacting longer cooldowns. That said, here too I find myself very disappointed by the enormous time gating involved with upgrading the essences to unlock the fancy FX visuals. One of the essences requires leveling your Heart to 70 (which will take months) while others require Mythic Azshara kills, which very few people will ever get. It seems like such a waste of resources to create these beautiful assets and never use them, leaving them tantalizingly out of reach for the vast majority of players.

As a specific example, unlocking the fancy FX for the Essence of the Focusing Iris, arguably the most visually impressive, currently requires completing Mythic Keystone Master! That’s insane! I am not sure of the exact statistics but it is something that probably only ~1% of all players achieve every season. And even those who do achieve it will take so long to do it that they will hardly get to enjoy looking at it as by then a new expansion will likely be behind the corner and those abilities will be taken away along with the Hearts. Lowering the requirement to Mythic Keystone Conqueror is much more reasonable.

Just my honest thoughts.

I seriously doubt that would cause latency. It did not in Classic. This is why they put forth the “minimum effort” every time. Because there are people who will tirelessly excuse every single thing that is done wrong, and then try to act like we’re in the wrong for asking for more.

Also, why Nazjatar quest objectives are not marked in the map? and why Mechagon quest are hard to find?
This really feels like artificially extended play time.
Or maybe trying to appeal to classic wow player that apparently loves that, but why then? they already have classic for that

Ehhh. Nazjatar just feels empty. “Events” are few and far between, the story just feels, idk, all over the place? Quest placement and doability range from a breeze to just a waste of time.

Mechagon however is done right. I can grind to my hearts content and feel like I’m making progress, I don’t feel like that in Nazjatar.

Rep grind is so slow I’m honestly not sure if its even worth it. I get thats the point of it, you want us to not want flying anymore, but you might just run us off from the game instead.

Indeed it is. No one well disagree that. However if this is all the good we can say…

This is the honest truth to it all

I’m going to give the 'wrong’ answer here.

I’m up to the same thing I was up to during 8.1.5.

Leveling a few toons to 60 and playing through that content cap before I start playing TBC content. The race to endgame just doesn’t appeal. Might get into BFA content sometime in 9.x. I can let you know what I think when I get there.

Anyway, thanks for asking.

All I’ve done since I purchased BFA 2 months before 8.2, has been the soul crushing grind for pathfinder on my main. I’ve not touched any of my alts.

Now PF2 is another rep grind. My mind is too numb to appreciate the work you’ve put into this content Blizz.

You all remember the South Park episode “Make Love not Warcraft”? That episode is the perfect analogy for Pathfinder.

The Devs & their Pathfinder achievement is the overpowered troll that kills every player in the game.

While the players are the boys, hiding in the forest killing boars, getting carpal-tunnel injuries, grinding their lives away just to reach max level & kill the troll.

At the end of it all we can fly & as Cartman said “…now we can finally play the game”.

? took like one day to my bodyguard get rank 3.

The music team and the art team are the two teams that almost never fail in pretty much any decent game.

Sadly, nice music and pretty art can only carry you so far before you need genuine substance to go the distance.

The music team did an amazing job. ^^

Not sure how you managed that, since there are only 3 follower dailies per day, each granting 100 xp, and it takes 300 xp per rank.

Oh, and not to mention that once you finish the quest chain that starts at rank 3 you get a “do busy work for the next 7 days”.

“Gain 3000 rep total among all your bodyguards”.

At least its not starting at 0/3000.

The new area is interesting and it’s nice to finally be working on the rep grind for flight. (Such grind, much WoW…) That said, (This is not directed at you specifically Bornakk…) the feral nerf to rebirth was a bit of a slap in the face to ferals who were already getting benched. I honestly don’t think I will be playing much after I get flight and the way ferals and other “uncool” specs are handled is one of several reasons.

They are not the only source for follower EXP.
Mine is half bar till level 4 and 850/3000 exp.

Not doubting you, but I haven’t seen more than 3 per day for my follower. I’m at 900/3000, and Neri is rank 4.

Nazjatar is tapped until Friday’s reset, all I have is the pet battle available.

I’m at 900/3000 as well and rank 4. Think I took Ori. Wish I hadn’t but oh well, I’ll deal with it.

More posts like this please. It’s great to see Devs interact and ask questions. It doesn’t matter if it’s “how are you enjoying the first week of Operation Mechagon.”

Just more!

Im enjoying nazjatar much more than I am mechagon. That’s about all i’ve got right now.
