You have to have pathfinder 1 and 2… 2 involves exploring both zones and a rep grind for 2 factions
Something fun? Something that isn’t gated by time? You know…content that was in the game from TBC - MoP?
Terrible, I just spent all this money to buy the Crimson Tide Stallion and then it was hotfixed off the NPC during the time I was doing the Murloc trade game. So I feel cheated. Seems like a common feeling coming from Blizzard titles these days. Want to talk about it some more?
TL; DR
- Naz is OK, not enough to do. Need more story.
- Navigation is a giant pain
- Mobs packed too tight, hit too hard-may be due to gear
- Pathfinder needs to be reworked
- Why are we ignoring the giant demon sword stuck in the planet?
I suppose at ilevel 382 I’m considered “undergeared”. That’s fine. My guild doesn’t raid (or do much of anything) anymore, and I haven’t taken the time to group for normal raids, mostly because I believe I have at least a touch of social anxiety and it’s hard for me to throw myself into a group that doesn’t know me at all and attempt to work with them at something which is (supposedly) harder than LFR but not as hard as heroic. So mobs are going to hit harder and I have to use my cop out tactics a lot. Fine. TBH the mobs in Zuldazar and Kul Tiras were fast becoming easymode, so I embrace this new challenge.
As others have said, however, overall mob density is, IMO, too intense, especially if you are, like me, NOT at ilevel 400~ and accustomed to the previous mobs being almost too easy. I’m not a numbers or data cruncher-I leave that to folks who know what they’re doing-but I’d say the difficulty of a given mob is pretty close to fair, but only one on one. In my experience it is almost never one on one, which leads to frustrating deaths that could be avoided if things were adjusted slightly.
The zone is at least mildly appealing visually. I like the color scheme, and there are some awesome looking fish swim-er, flying around. The debuffs that aggro normally neutral mobs were an interesting surprise, and I learned fast not to step on eggs. HOWEVER, navigation is currently a nightmare. Of course, I am directionally challenged, so I’m sure that plays a role there. I have the same issue with each new zone, so it is, at least in part, me, not you.
Kudos for FINALLY finishing the direhorn quest chain.
RE: Content gating
Don’t. Just, don’t. I know there’s some ephemeral schedule you think you need to adhere to, but it’s just an arbitrary timeline that has no real reasoning. I spent a few hours running quests in Nazjatar, and now I’m all out of things to do. ONE day of play and I’m just doing dailies/WQs to kill time. That is a problem. Sure I can run the new instances-and I will, once I have geared up a bit-but what about after that? Just keep doing THE SAME THING EVERY DAY till I get…what? The final boss? And when will THAT be? Who even knows? I really hope more story is coming soon, because ATM this patch feels like…soda. It tastes good for a while, then it starts to make you sick because it’s all empty calories. At this point, I’m thinking, What, is that really it? Seriously? I meet some aquagoblins, watch Azshara throw another hissy fit, and that’s all? And yes, I have scoured the map-even got the cheevo for it!-and done everything I could find. At this point, all I’m here for is flying, and that’s more from a completionist stance than caring about it gameplay wise.
Isn’t story what it’s supposed to be all about, in an RPG, even an MMO? What happened to that? What happened to crying when Ysera died, or having my jaw drop in disbelief as Vol’jin and Varian fell to the Legion? I want that WoW back.
On the subject of story: WHY has every single NPC except Magni forgotten about the giant demon sword stuck in the planet??? That’s…kind of a big deal, right? No? Just me and Magni then? Oh…ok. But seriously: coocoo for cocoa puffs Sylvannas and Boy King Anduin’s manipulative entourage are so caught up in another pointless conflict they literally don’t care about the planet dying around them. Just…WTF?
RE: Pathfinder
Let me state first of all (cause I’ve been accused of not wanting to “work” for anything in this game): I am not opposed to requiring more than an exchange of gold and a certain level reached to unlock flight in new areas. I enjoy challenges, even if I do take longer than others to meet them. The only major issue I have with flight gating is very simple: There is no lore behind it. I just want to understand why, oh why, my winged mounts suddenly forgot how to fly in a new area. Just…give me a reason this is so. Make it part of our story, for goodness’ sake. It feels like a glaring omission that this hasn’t been done.
In fact I have a suggestion: You remember Kua’fon? That little pterodax we raised from an egg? Well, now we’re teaching him to fly. Make this the new way to unlock flying in each expansion in addition/as an alternative to Pathfinder. Bam! People who like story and in-lore stuff? Happy. People who like going after seemingly random achievements to “earn” it? Also happy.
Since this is only asking about the current patch, I will not include my thoughts on deeper issues with the game itself. I’ll save those for another day.
You will be grinding out reputations for the next couple of weeks. Whether you start now or in 3 weeks its going to be a grind of the same quests for the next several weeks.
No point in waiting. Also you have 1 more day on the new emissary reward which is 1500 rep, you wont want to miss that. Its basically the equiv of 30 quests.
My biggest complaint is that I’m grinding two new reps to unlock flying and that seems to be all those reps are there for. I guess I was expecting phasing zones like Molten Front or Thunder Isle, or, in the least, some sort of meaningful progression.
For example, I got the reward weapon (370) and replaced it within an hour. It ended up being a meaningless upgrade. I guess I miss the days that gear lasted more than a day and the progression came in chunks instead of incremental increases over time.
Some positives: music, art, pet battles…um…maybe flying once I finally unlock it.
So I guess I’m going to have the unpopular opinion here, but I think this patch has been great so far. I don’t mind the time-gating. I understand why it exists. What I love about this patch is though is the world interaction. There are so many things to click, to solve, to experiment with. Both zones seem to have a lot to do even if there’s not necessarily a WQ or a daily attached to everything. More of this please.
Would it be accurate to preface your response as:
Yes, it is now unlocked, however:
?
Yes. Pathfinder 1 and 2 is able to be completed in order to fly.
time gating has nothing to do with lore or anything else.
Time gating exists because the vast amount of decision making is based on the ‘time played’ metric.
No other reason, unless you count “How the players feel about it’ is not a valid objection.”
So, two reasons none of which have to do with anything other than myopia.
New zone Nazjatar is cool. But the content is still boring. No alliance are on so warmode is irrelevant. I would rather be able to customize my follower’s abilities/gear/looks, rather than have a lousy fish goblin follow me around. Heart of Azeroth still needs waaay more customization. One dinky ability every 10 heart levels? Artifact weapon had dozens of different upgrade slots. Heart has like 5. Still very lackluster.
There seems to be a real issue with where fishing pools are spawning in Nazjatar. Twice I found pools along the banks of water deep enough to swim in, and over half my casts failed to land in fishable water. By the time I got one actually IN the pool, I’d started to wonder if there was some bug in the code marking the fishing pools themselves as non-fishable.
This.
There items for Mechagon need to go in the Currency tab because it’s a little ridiculous how much bag space it takes up.
So far I liked the storylines but in Nazjatar the mob density is way too high. Seems like any AoE grabs at least one neutral mob, especially right around the Alliance town, where you have elite crabs just hanging out on every corner.
Rep seems unbalanced between the zones, I’m already friendly with Rustbolt Resistance after doing the intro and a handful of quests, but I’m still neutral with Ankoans after doing the intro and spending over an hour running around doing quests. And to be honest, I’m just in this to unlock flying, so the rep is the reason I’m there.
This patch is sketchy at best. The benthic gear is about the best part of it but offers no weapons or accessory slots. World pvp objectives are great but requiring 1 alliance kill to earn rewards is a joke when I’ve spent hours running around trying to even find an alliance to attack. Then you have mechagon, which seems to be where all the alliance are, ganking in groups when the point of mechagon is teamwork. So you have one area where pvp is encouraged and I can’t find a soul and another zone where pvp is discouraged and I can’t find a single rare to kill all while being chased down by a group of 5-10 of the opposite faction.
You just need the unshackled and rustbolt for flight if i remember right.
Maybe…im not looking yet im afraid
Edit: Forgot ankoans are the alliance version. Woops
This is the first content patch to an expansion I’ve enjoyed since Tanaan Jungle. Lots to do for people like me that want to do everything but your not required to do much of it for alts and the like.
Took me a couple hours of gameplay on the first day to get enough manapearls to push forward on the raid unlock quest which was perfect. The Zones are very well designed PvP wise with that crossing direction of alliance and horde on the intro of Nazjatar being very clever.
People are going to complain but as someone that has seen the writing on the wall for .x content being boring since Cata, this is a pleasant change.
Please Do not nerf the farmability of mechagon elites because those natural groups are fun to engage with and grind out. Just leave them exactly the way they are.
Between the rep gain rates, activities to do, slight challenge to the overworld… Credits due where credits due this was a good content patch and should set the bar going forward.
Fix class design next expansion and integrate bentic gear instead of TF/WF and a lot of people will come back.
Tip to everyone, You can dismount people from the rocket boots with the net-o-matic and its flipping fun.
Honestly I wish flying was this limited in every zone by fatigue or a zone mechanic because it keeps it it in check
Was going to end this but I really do love this patch and I haven’t said that in years, the availability/ability/restrictions/everything about the little gimmicky toy/consumable mechanic in each zone is tailored perfectly to make the gameplay just plain fun!
I am enjoying the patch very much! Great job. The art and zones are wonderful. Questing is fun. The new essence system has a lot of promise and I look forward to more class oriented ones in the future. Nice job to the team. They hit a home run with this patch.
I like the Nazjatar zone for the story and Machagon for the uniqueness. I see myself spending much more time in the Machagon Zone. For me both of these zones are a much better type of game play than Island Expeditions and Warfronts. I’m looking forward to doing the new dungeons and raids. I wished 8.2 could have started off the expansion.
Flying is out and there’s a sale on BfA. You still need to do pathfinder though, just like in Legion, but once pathfinder’s done then you can fly. If pathfinder is unacceptable in general, you probably won’t want to buy an xpac again unless things change (and I don’t expect them to).
That being said, if you still don’t want to buy BfA then don’t. Believe me, there’s no rush or pressure.
I did not buy Legion at all and I waited until patch 8.2 and a sale to buy BfA.
On a separate note, now that I have BfA I just don’t feel like doing BfA content. I don’t want to get started on the azerite gear grind. I hate how character advancement has been tied to items that you have to grind for an xpac, esp. when they go away at the end (azerite gear and artifact weapons).
It was probably a mistake for me to buy BfA tbh. At least I didn’t pay full price. Maybe I’ll enjoy lvling a void elf if leveling is any good (it might not be)?
