Oh I know just there were a lot of filler episodes during that time. Too many reminiscing on past episodes and talking and other characters when you just want to see SSJ Goku punch Frezias face. XD
The filler wasn’t Toriyama’s fault. Well I mean it kind of was, but not for the reason people think. He wasn’t involved in making the anime except for some consultation. The real issue was he was a little too slow with the manga. The anime kept getting ahead of the manga, and when that happened, rather than wait to make the next episode, they kept making filler instead.
I’m not a manga or anime person, so I have never watched DBZ or any of his works, but even I understand the gigantic impact he had and how many lives he touched. It’s a sad day when a man of his talents leaves us.
RIP, Mister Toriyama
Off-Topic: Same thing happened with BLEACH and FMA where the mangas got behind the animes so here come some filler episodes.
On-Topic: Dragon Ball will always be in my top 5 anime/manga because it was one of the first animes I saw on Cartoon Network’s Toonami. Heck, there’s probably no telling how many kids were introduced to anime thanks to Toonami and Dragon Ball.
We need a global holiday to celebrate this man.
He also worked on the Dragon Quest series and Chrono Trigger.
In temrs of influence, he was legendary.
I got into DBZ way before it became popular in the US. I grew up in a rural area and my school took a trip to NYC. I bought about 4 or 5 bootleg VHS tapes with random DBZ episodes on them. I eventually bought the entire manga run of DBZ and all the official release DVD when they came out with only THREE episodes per DVD.
Anyway huge part of my childhood. RIP to this absolute legend.
Despite being an 80s/90s anime fan, I never got into DBZ and generally prefer seinen to shounen, but I loved Chrono Trigger. Sad day for the industry. Much respect.
Sad day for anime/manga fans.
When I was young, I remember other kids were talking about Dragon Ball and I had no idea what it was. Out of curiosity, I read it and was instantly hooked.
Definitely one of the most influential mangas that inspired many similar works.
RIP legend.
Thank you for shaping our childhoods RIP
it was dbz back in 94 that got me in to anime later on i even seen the original db
I used to watch DBZ every day as a kid and was bummed to hear this news. But I had no idea he made the characters for Chrono Trigger. That is my favorite game of all time. I distinctly remember playing it all night long and finally beating it around 6am. First game I stayed up all night playing and carries such nostalgia for me. What a gift this man had and shared with the world.
Guts and Yugioh’ creators last year. Toriyama this year…
Someone check and see if Miyazaki still has a pulse. The formers are hard enough blows to animation as it is. Losing Hayao Miyazaki would be real damn tough.
maybe now dbz will be made good again.
RIP. Much love.
Not now, ya pizzacutter.
Robotech and Speed Racer were technically my first animes, but I wasn’t aware of what anime was back then.
Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, and the much maligned MD Geist got me into anime once I knew what it actually was.
I was too old the Dragonball stuff so I dont know the name. But its always sad when a pop culture icon passes.
Gather the dragon balls…
