Squelches do not last days
If it takes a GM 2 days to review your case, how long would you be squelched for?
Squelches are a max 24 hours as far as Iâm aware, GM review or not.
you are not squelched until reviewed, youâd have to read the FAQ about them, but they do not last days.
That would be epic. I would want them to be able to still post on the forums afterwards thoughâŚ
You are. Squelches are not the same as silences. Once a certain number of people report you, youâre automatically squelched until a GM can review the reports. If youâre found guilty, then a silence is a potential punishment. It starts at 24 hours and doubles every time youâre found guilty thereafter.
âThe first time a player is silenced, their chat will be restricted for 24 hours. This duration will double for each silence penalty received after the first, and there is no maximum. This means that players who receive multiple silence penalties may find themselves unable to chat for a very, very long time.â
I donât actually care about silences as a form of punishment. You cannot be silenced until a GM reviews the reports against you. Thatâs fine. Iâm talking about the automatic squelch feature that is in the game. And yes, there is one.
âThe Right-Click-Reporting features are crucial to us. There is a temporary âsquelchâ that it does to try and prevent in-game situations from escalating furtherâ
Agreed. The real power of the community is shunning a player out who has a reputation for Ninja looting or other âcrimesâ.
Days like this make me feel like getting out of bed isnât a waste of time.
. Squelches do not last for days. that is my point.
No itâs not. Blizzard literally had to take a global chat channel away from us after only the first day of having it because none of you could be trusted to not spam it 24/7, which is exactly what happened.
You continue to ignore Blizzard stating that using/Trade for things other than the buying and selling of goods and/or services is not, in and of itself, a violation.
Yes, players can be guilty of other violations, such as foul or abusive language or âSPAMâ and reported for those violations. I would ask what you consider to be âSPAMâ. Keep in mind that those same criteria would apply to those using chat for the buying or selling of goods and/or services.
If you consider posting the same message more than once in 5 minutes to be âSPAMâ, then I expect that you will not be posting your advertisement more than once every 5 minutes.
If someone is throwing around racial slurs in /Trade, they should be reported.
If Johnny is continually posting the same thing every 15 seconds, then report him.
If Bobby uses a macro once every five minutes to recruit for his guild, where is the âSPAMâ?
If Johnny and his friends are conversing in /trade, where is the âSPAMâ? You may find it irritating, but that does not necessarily constitute âSPAMâ.
They last until a GM reviews your case.
Or , like most PTRs and Betas, they simply have that function disabled. Account Security , Report a Player and Open a ticket are all disabled on Classic Beta and on the 8.2 PTR.
Just because a feature is disabled on a beta does not mean it will go live with that removal. 8.2 went live and did not have the reporting function disabled nor is opening a ticket.
I hope itâs gone. Maybe a blue will post and confirm soon.
I did ask about this on the MVP discord.
I asked " So Classic doesnât seem to have the right click to report player hooked up. How do people report players then ?"
The answer âIn beta, that generally isnât available since CS doesnât have access to it.â
AKA They donât have the ability to hook the report a player and open a ticket functions to null or QA only queues so they are disabled in any betas.
Was it active before? Why is this just being reported now? Itâs not like right click report isnât one of several hot issues hmmm!
I donât think it was.
Itâs usually one of the first things I check for any PTR or Beta.
I donât remember seeing any proof that it has ever been enabled in Classic Beta. And by proof I mean footage of the Help screen that shows if was enabled (IE the Report Player button enabled)
they do not last for days, have you found evidence of squelches lasting for days?
On a lighter note, I may have helped get someone squelched without knowing it. . . I didnât know the details of the reporting system at the time, except that there was one, and some punk was engaging people in Trade so he could switch over to Endgame spoilers. I suggested reporting to GMs in the hope theyâd hang something on him. I donât know if anything official happened, but I didnât hear from that toon afterward.
After reading all this, I feel sort of proud and embarrassed at once. But at least whoever that was closed his yap.
Banging that old drum again Fesz? Good to see ya!
Have you got a link for that statement at all? The only blue post I can find is thisâŚ
âeach chat channel is designed for the purpose of the title of the channel. So Trade Chat taking place in the Trade channel is the suggested use of that channel. If you are discussing other subjects in the channel, other players on your realm can consider those unwanted messages as spam. They may report it as such and therefore the penalties associated with spam may be applied to the person reported.â
Doesnât quite follow your argument.
This all comes back to the same old stalemate though; one side believes they should be able to say whatever they want whenever they want, and the other side wonders why the first side absolutely has to do it in a public channel.
I get that people are worried that RCR could be abused and thatâs a legitimate concern to have, but a lot of the people posting about it only seem to be worried about their ability to say whatever they like in trade chat.
