As repeatedly demonstrated in the game, in many situations you’re a greater asset than an army.
That’s more on Shaw’s department, and the Syndicate has a history of hostility and treachery in regards to the Alliance.
That’s an extremely debatable statement. Many of the roleplaying playerbase has had a long term goal of taking Lordaeron from the Horde, allowing Arathi to fall to it would have played poorly with the Human and Dwarven contingent of the Alliance after the all too recent fall of Gilneas.
It’s not that we’re saying Lordaeron/Arathi were not good targets to be raclaimed but the point here is that it was not the right time.
Why try to go reclaim an unused human kingdom when Kaldorei lands were being destroyed and its people killed?
Anduin needs to learn how to prioritize.
Also I still think Lordaeron should be left alone. I’m fine with removing Sylvanas and all her crazy murderous followers but the city should be left for the rest of the good undead.
Best friend perhaps but it doesn’t mean he has autorithy over othe Leaders. Tyrande/Genn are proof of that and me being a Night Elf have little to no care about what he plans if those plans go against the well being of my people.
So I said it and I’ll say it again. He chose poorly by attacking Arathi instead of comiting resources towards the reclamation of Kalimdor where it was actually needed. So yes. He did not send me there. In my story he simply didn’t help at all.
Asking a person of another race doesn’t mean he’s undermining the other leaders. Regardless of the player’s backstory for their character, the narrative treats you as a soldier of your faction.
Not when following those orders puts my people in danger. Anduin showed that he’s willing to sacrifice my race in order to achieve his own agenda going as far as sending my kin to die in a pointless siucide mission.
He may be the face of our faction but he no longer represents our goals. He is a detriment not our survival. It’s fine if he speaks for any other race and “send help” in the form of other champions but if the player is a Night Elf he simply did nothing. Gilneans went there basically on Genn command. So going race by race Anduin’s help can be debated.
If Anduin’s the one who gave the quest, then he’s the one that sent you. Feels like anything else is head-canon trying to supersede what the game’s actually having you do.
I understand that but Anduin just hides his unwillingness to help by “sending” someone who was already going to participate in that war anyway.
Imagine if you were working and then found out your house is on fire and your family is trapped inside then your boss “allows” you to go save them. Would you praise and thank your boss for letting you go? No matter what your boss says you would still go save your family anyway.
The only thing Anduin did was take advantage of that so he can brag about how he did all he could for night elves.
Anduin sending one person is what makes the most sense, with the quest being available to everyone just so they can see what happened. Because the other alternatives are: timey wimey shenanigans, where every Alliance PC who has done or will do the quest is anachronistically occupying the same moment in time; or, Anduin, Genn, Velen, Shandris, and Maiev have the quest down as a rehearsed routine they put on for any adventurer who walks through the door.
Not deep enough. Not only is every alliance PC occupying the same moment in time, they’re occupying the same space as well. Every action carefully choreographed to ensure simultaneous limb movement to ensure that every person’s body across the multiverse doesn’t rip apart at the seams.
There are multiple ways in which this game is canon. One of them is which you the Player are the only major hero of the story. That’s how quests are addressed.
Not so related, but I absolutely hate showcasing how strong a person is by “knocking someone around and not causing any serious bodily harm to the protagonist.” Terminator Salvation was a notable terrible example. Some authors, notably in The Dresden FIles and Warhammer avert this by having people who it smacked around by super strong people died instantly if they aren’t crippled then and there, or avert it entirely by having said person literally dismember the “weaker” person bare-handed.
Then they both screwed up. Once again. The blonde leading the blind.
Nightlighter is correct. Making Arathi a priority now was completely the wrong move. He was willing to fight for a defunct kingdom instead of the Alliance’s foothold in Kalimdor. That’s dumb. Furthermore, it’s time to let Lorderon go. The vast majority of the Forsaken were Lordaeron citizens. They didn’t ask to be killed and raised. They shouldn’t have to be thrown out just because the living want it. The Alliance thirst for retaking it is partly why Sylvanas anticipated the attack on Lordaeron. Lordaron is as dead as its current residents, let it go.
True but I understand his point. As a Night Elf you wouldn’t have even remained behind to wait for Anduin to tell you to go. The champion would have left with Shandris and the others, especially since said champion was in Teldrassil during the burning.
Credit that the Night Elves give to the player in game through Darkshore victory quest, and credit that the Night Elves do not give to Anduin. Even Shandris, the most sympathetic to Anduin, does not give him credit, and references his broken promise in Shadows Rising, as far as the story is concerned.
The story doesn’t pay attention to the race of the character. No matterr what race you are you are the Alliance Champion. So he would send you whether you’re a Night Elf or a Dwarf.
And that’s a big flaw that throws you out ot a potentially inmersive and good story. You can’t really blame people to dislike quests like this one when you know things should play out differently but for the sake of a homogenized playable character you’re forced to see actions that are completely irrational.
But Abduin isn’t the one who gives the quest. You watch the cutscene of what happened with Tyrande and then Maiev gets pissed and says you are more trustworthy than Anduin and gives you the quest to go to Darkshore. You only get the Anduin claiming “he is sending you” if you wait around and see white text talk after.
So he never actually sent us anywhere. Maiev asked us to, we accepted her quests, then after the fact Anduin claims he sent you. So the boy king refused help and then when you agree to help on your own, he then decides to act like your help is actually his contribution and he was helping all along.
I just replayed it on this new Mechagnome I am making my new main. And yes, it begins with the owl, which leads us to Maiev, Anduin never gives us any quests. He does however try to take credit after the fact.
